Clearly kicked, then hit the goalie's pad. Brodz doesn't get his stick on it after kicking it. I agree that shouldn't count.
But even though he kicked it, it touched the goalie instead of going directly in.
So does that negate the kick?
Maybe that is what the officials decided, but it is pretty dumb if they did. You're telling the goaltender that if he didn't try to do his job it wouldn't have counted.
And it seemed pretty clear that it didn’t touch his stick.

Big Ten reffing represent.

They will claim that the stick in the pads was the redirection... so the kick is voided.

Well thankfully it doesn’t really have any bearing on the outcome.
What a strange game.

No
But it does according to the NCAA. I have sent in the Rule Change request 3 times. I am not kidding.
The NCAA rule states that you can kick a puck into the net as long as it deflects off the goalie on the way in? I really doubt that

Asked my dad his opinion (long time ref, supervises now because his knees are shot) and he attributes it to poor eyesight and neither of them ever being goalies.

I am guessing they ruled he hit it with his stick after it hit the goalie's pad... If not, then I have no idea...

A kicked puck where the goalie makes a save is a live puck, for either team to still play - attacking or defending.

So again, I am guessing they deemed it a "rebound" goal?

The point you are arguing doesn't have anything to do with the question that Cowgirl asked though.

Makes you wonder how many other East Coast teams are paper tigers this year. The only other East-West matchup so far has been UND-AIC and the outcome of that one wasn't a surprise.

Sorry, I didn't look terribly closely at the replay. It looked like he may have had a 2nd hit of the puck before it went it after the goalie touched it.

If the puck was only deflected by the goalie and then went in: No Goal.

If the puck was saved by the goalie and then pushed, or shot in: Good Goal (according to NCAA).

We’ll sort of - if it touched the goalie before going into the net then I suppose it’s no longer a kicked goal because it’s a rebound/save and still a live puck - so I interpret that it does negate the kick.

Regardless I agree with @fightclub30 that the goalie shouldn’t be penalized for doing his job; if he hadn’t touched it it would not have counted.

SCSU has a good team. They’ll give BC a battle tomorrow! The possibility of an All MN team Frozen Four is still in play.

I think it was more under the pad and he helped knock it out. Either way, I think it’s clear that the puck changed direction consistent with the poke of the stick.

BU looked like one of those teams where they were disappointed to lose, but relieved the season is over.

It appeared to me, that after the last face-off with 4.5 seconds left, the BU Center (#32) checked the linesman who dropped the puck. Anybody else see that? It looked intentional to me.

Yeah, he turned and looked at him and then leaned into him pretty good. Don't know about a check, but he absolutely meant to knock him down.

Either term, if it is agreed that it was intentional, and it sure looked like it to me (it wasn't like the player continued on to drive the net), I would think that would end his NCAA career.

I was surprised how easily St. Cloud was able to handle BU. The domination started with the opening faceoff to start the second, and they just never let up. Men against boys, quite literally.

I do think a little early luck helped; that sky high puck that dropped perfectly onto a scsu stick seemed to deflate the terriers.

To be fair to these east coast teams they’ve basically played half a season.

That and giving up a penalty shot goal when they had a 5:00 minute man advantage. One of the worst 5 minute power plays you will ever see.

Scrum behind net. Puck went high in the air from behind the net to the SCSU D man who fired it past the goalie. No one knew where the puck was. Almost everyone thought it was still in the scrum behind the net.

Puck was behind the net. Somehow it popped up and over the net into the slot - a Texas leaguer so to speak - and it basically landed at the stick of a SCSU defensemen who buried it. It seems the only players ln the ice who knew the puck landed in front of the net were the two SCSU Dmen - the goalie and BU players were all looking behind the net when the puck went in. It went in-out in a hurry!

Puck goes behind the net, 2 players in a puck battle, at the 4 second mark the St. Cloud player falls backwards as he's playing the puck and flips the puck off the boards. Puck goes straight into the air and lands at the feet of Miller in the high slot.

I am watching part of this St Cloud game and just came across the broken glass/boards. The glass wasn’t tempered. It broke in shards and could have killed someone. If that large chunk with sharp end went into a belly it would be a gross mess.

As grateful I am to have these games on TV somewhere, ESPN needs to clean up or put more effort in covering the tournament. For the 1st game yesterday they just showed a rerun of the prior nights intermission reports. Games rarely start on the network they are supposed to be on, and the graphics leading to break today was all BU players, who lost yesterday. I realize that the ratings are not great, but at least try.

Like you said though, how do you record them if you aren’t home to manually correct it? Hope you have enough record time to record all the ESPN channels?

I was a little annoyed yesterday during our game they had no intermission reports or interviews - rather they just switched to the other game - which was already on a different channel.

Back on ESPN2 btw.

I will say that from what I've seen so far, BC is simply a better team. Yes, SCSU played yesterday and BC had the day off, but usually, you don't see that really impact until later in the game.

Looks like fairly low-resolution for a supposedly "HD" channel, yes. Audio's been ok though.

Commercials/studio look fine. Game video isn't as good

My feed is great. I’ve had some auto record issues with other games where it didn’t choose the HD signal. I had to manually change it.

Yeah it’s not looking super HD for me too but no glitching or audio issues. I think there’s contrast with the ice that makes the picture a little less crisp.

Yeah, the lighting at this arena seems to make the picture a little washed out and it doesn’t help that neither team has bright colored uniforms.

I can't remember which goalie I heard talking about that. They said as soon as they got on the ice to start a period they lifted the net with their sholders to let the Zamboni water freeze higher. Made for nets that came off easier.

I thought i read somewhere that this arena doesn't have a permanent hockey team playing in it and they had to put in the ice just for this event.

Kevin Brown does various ESPN stuff and also Orioles Baseball. Ritchlin has been doing the NCAA for ESPN for years, and usually was paired with Clay Matvick.

Should definitely be a goal, the puck was in before there was contact. Shouldn't even be a penalty, the BC player was pushing him the whole way.
