That SCSU/BU game should be moved up to the early time slot now. It will at least give the winner more rest to play on Sunday. We'll see if the NCAA does the right thing and does that.

Isn’t Providence a team in waiting just for this scenario? Or is it too late now?

They were on the waiting list for 24 hours after the bracket was revealed. After that was up, the field was set.

Did the Notre Dame player catch it from a Penn State player last week?

I think they should have kept a couple extra teams on quarantine and testing this week just in case. Imho it was poor planning not to, and unfair to both the bracket with the team advancing without a game, and the next teams in line. Again, just my $.02.
I hope this doesn’t happen moving forward, but I’m holding my breath. If it does, I can’t think of anyone more deserving to get a free win than AIC.

I would say all of college hockey fandom wants SCSU or BU to beat BC now to get rid of "the asterisk" possibility on the ice.

How much money did you have on Notre Dame :biggrin2: It's too bad it wasn't the 'other' ND effected by this.

It's so hard to bet on sports (legally/easily) in Minnesota. Otherwise I would put money every year at the start of the year on UND and uw (and the Packers and badger football) to win it all as an emotional hedge.

agree 100%. Either that or you need to give a longer "wash out" period prior to starting the tournament/making selections. Why they let the conference tournaments end then immediately selected in a 2 weekend tournament really doesn't make sense to me.

I didn't think they would because of the money needed to keep "standby seeds" ready to go, but if that wasn't a concern, it would have been really nice to have these alternates around for the first round.

What is going to really toss a wrench in the works is if a Frozen 4 teams gets tossed before they play...then a team gets a bye into the championship?

I could run over to Scheels Arena and cough on a bunch of the UND stuff sitting in there! I know that's not funny....but it is UND.

I haven't been following the squeak-ball tourney super closely, so I don't know if they've had to put it in effect, but they announced a largely similar policy a month ago for the men's and women's squeak-ball tourneys. (And, upon looking further, they announced this policy for other winter championships as well.)

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/me ... d-covid-19
Replacement teams will only be introduced into the championship within 48 hours after the announcement of the field, and at no time thereafter.
So it seems the only major difference for hockey (and other winter sports) was a window of 24 hours rather than 48.

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/me ... d-covid-19

So whatever you think of the policy, you have to give the NCAA credit, they did put the thought into these contingencies in advance and published their plan. The inconvenience and cost of having to hold multiple teams on quarantine "just in case" across all the different winter championships probably added up.

My understanding was if a team drops out they will reseed the regional. I'm now seeing the opposite, which seems like a silly decision.

Na, fine as is. Wonder if there’s any retesting though. Or just one positive and the team is out? False-Positives seem pretty common.

Seems it depends on who you ask... But if you flew or bussed somewhere and THEN had one positive, you're probably screwed cuz of contact tracing.

I’m surprised they don’t have teams ready to come in even if they have to move the games back a couple days.

No score after 1. Jan Brady had a 5 minute PP, and obviously did not take advantage of it.

The BU goalie didn’t let them.

The only thing I could see is that the angle of the camera was from center ice. Didn’t have a straight on blue line angle.

I can understand not catching it live, but on the broadcast there was a frame with the skate well off the line and the puck was well on the line

I can’t believe they don’t at least throw some duct tape over that crack in the boards so a jersey doesn’t get caught.

They do have until tomorrow though to fix it after this game.

And, they replaced the glass, but not doing anything about the board? Now to see if another hit in that corner shatters the new pane too.

3 of their 5 goals have been total garbage. I guess it’s fitting for the quality of this “tournament” so far. At least we’re not watching a women’s basketball game in the time slot due to yet another Covid DQ

Clearly kicked, then hit the goalie's pad. Brodz doesn't get his stick on it after kicking it. I agree that shouldn't count.

But even though he kicked it, it touched the goalie instead of going directly in.
So does that negate the kick?

I haven't been watching this game closely, but it would seem that BU's lack of veterancy after their shortened season is showing itself. A #3 seed looks generous right now.

Maybe that is what the officials decided, but it is pretty dumb if they did. You're telling the goaltender that if he didn't try to do his job it wouldn't have counted.

No, it wouldn't. Another defensive player touching it would have.

I suspect this is the same as the offside earlier. Likely both should have been waved off, but they're going really picky on the "conclusive visual evidence" standard. As long as it's the same both ways (which it has been) I certainly won't care, especially when I don't really care who wins this all that much.

This is a rule change I have sent in several times, apparently nobody likes it or agrees with me.

He kicks the puck, goalie makes the save, then someone scores on the rebound. We are penalizing the goalie for doing his job and making a save. If he lets in the kick, no goal and nobody has a chance to score on a rebound... A batted puck on net or a high sticked puck on net is an instant whistle, but a kicked puck isnt.

I do understand why, as there is no legal continuation by the offending team after a batted/gloved or high sticked puck in the attaching zone (or any zone in NCAA). The kicked puck on net is just a bit weird for me. As a former goalie I realize I am biased, it just feels like we are penalizing a goalie for making a save on a kicked puck...

But it does according to the NCAA. I have sent in the Rule Change request 3 times. I am not kidding.
