We are all well aware of the “facts” of the past. Can we please put that behind us and enjoy the success of our team right now, and have a glass-half full outlook for our future? Our team is doing very well right now and the optimism here is much needed. Please stop dragging us down. That’s all we ask.

Nah, if the Gophers want to get in at large they should take care of their own business. I never get my hopes up for help. Remember what happened a few years ago when like 7 things had to go wrong and they did...

Was looking at the Pairwise rankings for NCHC vs B1G.

B1G:
PSU - 11
OSU - 14
Gophers - 19
Michigan - 20
ND - 22
BADgers - 36

NCHC:
UND - 1
Duluth - 4
Denver - 5
WMU - 17
Omaha - 27
SCSU - 28
CC - 42
Miami - 43

If you take the averages: B1G - 20.714; NCHC - 20.875

So, how much better is the NCHC, really? I get it, four straight titles. One, being a hot/lucky team playing the Frozen Four at home.
Could it be that the B1G suffers from too much parity? Where no one team can truly excel if 6-7 teams are good enough to beat each other on any given night. Where the NCHC can have 3-4 teams rise to the top each year and bottom feed on the lower teams to pad their records. I just don't think the B1G is as bad as people want to believe, and the NCHC isn't an infallible giant with better teams top to bottom.

It is better. They are beating up on each other...

Not light years better and the Big Ten is always second or third best depending on the year. But NCHC is the best conference.

You make it sound like the difference between Div 1 and Div 3 usually. My point being, they aren't as far ahead as you would like to believe. And, the B1G isn't as bad as you would like to believe either

At least this season, at this juncture, 3 of the top 5 pairwise teams says a lot. So top half of the NCHC is quite a bit stronger (than BIG) & the bottom half is getting beaten up badly by the top half, hence the slightly worse mean average (compared to the BIG). The BIG isn’t as bad as some people think...it’s just not as interesting to watch, comparatively. And the last 4 NCAA champions speaks for itself.

I find the B1G more interesting to watch. Would rather see PSU shoot the puck 50 times and play hockey than Scott Perunovich stand behind the net for minutes at a time ragging a one goal lead. Apples and oranges. Three really good teams and one decent won the last four games of their season...yeah, it means something. But, I wouldn't say that the B1G is Atlantic Hockey and that the NCHC is light years better, like some fans of the old WCHA want to believe because it confirms their biases. Just looking at it from a different angle.

The level of play from the top half of the NCHC is much closer to NHL style even with just the eye test. Mariucci being huge doesn't help though.

Well, if Scotty played for YOUR team...you’d likely feel much differently 😉 But as to your other point, I’m in agreement, the difference between the two conference isn’t by that big of a margin, but since realignment, it’s not insignificant (either). And it’s got nothing to do with the old WCHA, I’m simply more provincial than most people and therefore enjoy watching MN born players more, regardless of the school they play for, compared to players I can’t readily identify (from HS hockey or Juniors).

Given the footprint, I presume CCHA? With BSU the Westernmost school in the conference, it would make sense.

Looks like AIC is on their way to another reg season title, but also looks like any of the top four teams could come out of that tournament (AIC, Sacred Heart, Army, RIT).

Sacred Heart and Army have never made the NCAA tourney.

In the WCHA, there is an epic last weekend series shaping up in Bemidji where the Beavers can take the WCHA title with a sweep over Mankato. Anything short of that and the Mavericks win their third reg season title in a row.

That can't bode well for the Alaska programs and the Huntsville program. Are any other schools left out?

Huntsville announced last year that they were leaving the conference as well. The two Alaska schools are the only ones remaining in the WCHA.

Top comment on the story about the WCHA/CCHA
"The Big 10 ruined Gopher/Wisconsin hockey. "

Second place comment
"All of this thanks to the Big Ten for ruining college hockey."

Third:
"Can the Gophers join? I'm done with Big Ten hockey...."

It takes one person to complain, and one louder person to say get over it, but I like how voting shows public opinion.

Well I suppose we can say it - the big ten has officially killed the WCHA.

So I agree; it’s dead. Let’s bury it, dry our tears, and move on!

Gopher Hockey is making a comeback. That’s all that matters! :M: :M2:

I'm glad that the WCHA is dying because everytime I see those WCHA banners in the rafters here in Mankato, I feel like going up there and adding an asterisk to every one of them. It's the WCHA...but is it really the WCHA?

From what I've read in a couple articles since Michigan Tech is the caretaker of the trophy, it will go with them. But Bowling Green was the team that held the naming rights and trophies for the CCHA, so those could be used. I looked it up and the MacNaughton was used as the CCHA regular season trophy for three years in the early 80's. I would imagine though that the conference would choose to use the McNaughton as their trophy because it holds a lot of history and prestige.

That can't bode well for the Alaska programs and the Huntsville program. Are any other schools left out?
Huntsville announced last year that they were leaving the conference as well. The two Alaska schools are the only ones remaining in the WCHA.
Has Huntsville declared a destination? Atlantic hockey?

This would be a good start.

Would want OSU/MSU to split probably
Would want ND to win tonight and take 2 points tomorrow

That would land all four of them on 34 I think.

2-0 ND
uw down to ASU 29 seconds in. Maniscalco

PSU/Us both between 39 and 36 at the end of the night.

The B10 realignment has been good for everyone except Minnesota... Wisconsin has their own issues, but I don't think they are WCHA/B10 specific.

Penn State has been one of the highest (or highest) average percentage attendance since joining the B1G. 103.3% this year according to USCHO, only second behind ASU 132%. Penn State is in a great spot because they are in a hockey loving state where they really are the only team that unites Western PA (Pittsburgh) and Eastern PA (Philly). Hockey fans in PA will fight over the Pens or Flyers, but a big name D1 school with a solid athletics program and history appeals to a lot of people there.

How many times have we heard this before? Will it be true this time? On a side note, I have heard rumblings of a possible school in South Dakota that may look at adding hockey and they have a donor lined up. I just don't see that happening though.

No, we've just been hearing "any minute now" out of Illinois for 2 years.

I think there's a strong possibility that the two Alaska's and Huntsville will give it up after next season. If that happens and Illinois does add a D1 program we'd be down two overall, with 58 teams.

I could see uw getting past OSU and PSU against the odds. It would be nice if Mariucci was waiting for them in the final after that.
