Mittelstadt with a nice assist. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/spectacula ... 38470.html. He also wins the faceoff. BUF loses in OT.

Mikey Reilly is quietly having a decent year in Ottawa. He has 17 points ( all assists ) this year, which is a career high. He ranks 24th among NHL d men in assists. He is also only a -3 for a bad Sens team.

Yeah he's been having a nice season, wouldn't be a bad get for a team that needs depth on their blue line for cheap.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

Mittelstadt with 5 goals in his last 7 games. His playing time has increased to around 17 minutes per game after the coaching change. He had 1 goal in his 1st 19 this year.

Buffalo is absolutely pathetic in terms of forward depth and now Hall is gone (and Eichel is out). He needs to take advantage of this chance like he has been.

Rem gets his 1st NHL point in his 9th NHL game. He ended up with 2 assists. On a side note, Tommy Novak has been called up to Nashville's taxi squad.

Those "French Connection" era jerseys are really great looking. They need to go with the right socks in order to complete the classic look.

Reilly was a smaller build in college and used his elite skating skills to defend well. There are a ton of elite skaters in the pros. It has taken him some time to figure out how to use his body and not get run over. Maybe he will stick with the Bruins even after their hurt guys get back.

Like political ideologues who never report the successes of the opposition - or the failings of their own side - Thirty-Four has been strangely quiet on Casey Middlestadt, the kid for whom he never let bad news go unnoticed. :)

Casey has had a very good streak on a putrid Buffalo squad. However, he played about 130 games of hot garbage for a bad Buffalo squad. He earned himself another minimal one year deal. 👍👍

Of course, the other end of the stick is that he's been on a nice streak while playing for a crappy team without much support. Imagine if he played on a better team with high-end players around him. Middelstadt has always had the skill set to play at this level. He just came in too early, and from a maturity standpoint he wasn't ready.

Yes, maybe this is an anomaly, but there are examples all over the league of players who figure it out after a couple years - especially the guys who come in when they're 19-20 years old. Mike Reilly has taken several years to find his stride at this level. Even very good players, like Brodin, hit a streak where they just go to another gear. I remember Jason Zucker was flying all over the place his first couple years in the NHL, but he was not a good hockey player and even enjoyed some time in the minors. There are many more examples, but you get the point.

He was the 8th overall pick & came out after one year in college, that’s not unusual for a top ten pick. In hindsight, ya, another year probably would have made more sense, but the Gophers were also going through a coaching change, although I’m sure CM would have enjoyed playing for TBob, he certainly thrived under him at the WJC. But...he’s also earned several million dollars the past few years in salary & bonus while most players his age have earned zero dollars to date..Bottom line, he’s a former Gopher player (albeit just one season) & has represented the M proudly. So I pull for his success. Why a certain non MN graduate & poster but supposed fan... has comes on GPL and reveled in it....whenever Casey has struggled at the NHL level...speaks volumes about that individual, plain & simple. ☝️

I don't think streaky was criticizing his decision to leave so much as pointing out it likely had an impact on his getting acclimated to the big leagues.

From everything I've seen, heard and read about Middelstadt, he's a good kid and worthy of support. Many of us felt he wasn't ready to make the jump, regardless of his draft status. I think Casey got a heaping helping of humble pie in the NHL, and he may have enjoyed his life more as a student athlete hanging out with his friends.

That said, some NHL teams like to see kids develop in their system, so that may have been Buffalo's plan all along. However, as an NHL GM, I wouldn't want my first-round pick to go into a league full of guys in their mid 20s who can put your investment through a wall. In that one respect alone, college is a good training ground for physically underdeveloped players.

I don’t like Casey, we all don’t care for certain players. It’s ok to disagree without insulting the character of a fellow poster.

Articulate what it is you don't like about him. I don't know him, so I have no basis for any personal animus. As I mentioned, however, he seems like a stand up kid.

Is it is play you don't like? His decision to leave school?

I don't know if he'll make it in the NHL, but he's going in the right direction - and he has the tools.

If he played on a better team he would probably still be on the AHL bubble. Buffalo's forward unit right now is probably one of the worst this century. If he didn't take advantage of this chance, I think hope would be lost. But he's showing he has the potential.

Maybe for the whole family since John and Luke will be arriving in a couple of years. Wonder why they went with the name Casey? You would have thought they would have gone for another disciple name like Mark. :D

Absolute classic Kessel goal too. Hang out by the offensive blue line while the puck is in your defensive end, receive the loooong outlet pass, take two strides and unleash the snap-shot!.

I suppose it's possible he just came onto the ice for a change...

I look at pictures of Kessel off the ice and think, "That guy has 900 points in the NHL?".

He hasn't missed a regular season game since 2009. That's amazing.

Kessel needs 96 points to hit 1000. Will be tough but I'll say 45% chance he can hit it. If he hits 1000 LaPanta should be forced to never use his nickname again for another player.

At the end of his 22 yo season he had 181 points. CM has 61 near the end of his, which means the next chance for a 1000 point player is probably Lucius.

3MM per. Seems low, but he's hurt by playing with Adam Fox who will get a huge ticket and now K'Andre Miller who will need a huge contract in a few years.

Pittsburgh signed Marino for six years at 4.4MM per...

Saw Tyler Nanne in a Great Clips commercial during the wild game. Is that news worth posting? I don’t know but I’m doing it anyway.

From a recent article “ Don Granato’s effect on the Sabres’ game plan was obvious. His impact on the players was even more substantial.

“A lot of guys, including myself, owe Donny quite a bit,” center Casey Mittelstadt said.

They have time to pay Granato back. He’s not going anywhere.

After a seven-week coaching search that included candidates from around the globe, Buffalo general manager Kevyn Adams has picked the guy who held the interim title. Granato became the organization’s 20th coach Tuesday, three months after stepping in for fired bench boss Ralph Krueger.”

I was very confused reading this and had to look it up. Bratislava is, of course, in Slovakia, but they play in a league based in Austria.

Nate Schmidt doing Nate Schmidt things... The Twins could use him.. You can see Haula throw his glove in the air in the background after the catch before he runs over for the chest bump.

That's a very sturdy temporary fence. Normally those things tip over if a butterfly flaps its wings too close to them. I love watching those celebrity/allstar games for stuff like that. Especially because you can tell which athletes played multiple sports, and which athletes did not. It's also fun to see the greatest athletes in the world not know how to hit a softball. DK Metcalf struck out swinging twice in the MLB Celebrity All Star softball game this season 🤣

I think it was a good decision for Mittlestadt to leave and max out on the signing bonus and now get $7.5 million. I think he likely developed more playing more pro hockey rather than forty college games.

Agree to disagree. He was clearly not fully prepared his first couple years in the league.

And he’s still making more than us common folk will ever see in a lifetime. 😬
Looks like it still worked out well for him. 😆
