Agree, WI appears to be a high flying team (hard to even imagine from Eaves days) the rink at Kohll is 97 feet wide & UMD needs to play their normal (playoff style) lockdown D to be successful, so a great contrast in styles will clash this weekend. Although the bigger ice will suit Scotty P, who scored or assisted on 3 of 4 goals the Dogs tallied last weekend. BTW I love when games are on FSN+ as some weekends I’m in Superior and stuck with FSW (Wi), Bucks & Brewers instead of MN programming 🤮 :chainsaw:
From what I saw of last weeks games (Friday) the Dogs really miss Mikey Anderson.

Yep, with Scotty being dinged up (2nd half) last year, Mikey emerged as the best all around D on the team, & provided some critical offense in the playoffs, he is missed. So are Mackay, Kreiger, Tufte & Exell, all had their role....Quinn Olson (a high Bruins draft pick) & Loheit will need to pick up the slack at F.

My impressions on the Purple Cow vs. Whioux boondoggle here in Mankato last night. Both are really talented, well coached teams. Only had a few moments of idiocy on the ice, pretty much kept to hockey. The game was very fast and both teams moved the puck but I would lean the ice towards the Whioux for having better scoring chances. MSU's goal to tie the game that sent it to OT was shot by a defenseman who skated the puck below the goal line and bounced it off the goalie to score late in the 3rd. Best player on the ice though all night was MSU freshman Nathan Smith, who was picked as WCHA preseason freshman of the year...he looked it and was easily the best Purple Cow all night as he finished with one goal and three assists.

Just watched UMD-Sconny game on DVR. 6-3 BADgers SUCK. Dogs were down 2 d-men by the end of the 1st as Perunovich and Lellig both got game misconducts. Good thing they dressed 7 D. Dogs 7th D was exposed and in the ice for 3 goals.
Caufield with two goals and 6 for the year. Not only has the sick release, but finds the soft spot to bury the puck. Badger freshman had a good game.

Dogs will need to play much more disciplined tonight to get a split. BADgers SUCK have a team that can put up goals if you run & gun plus take stupid penalties. The 2 freshman 1st round picks are the real deal.

This BADgers SUCK team is SIGNIFICANTLY more explosive offensively...than pretty much any team under Eaves (including the 2006 champs). BADgers SUCK will contend for the BIG title (based on what I’ve seen so far during 4 periods) ☝️They’re good.

You better score 6-7 against WI, or you will lose.

Denver will be tough to beat this year. Bobby Brink already has 3 goals. We'll see how Niagara does against them at Denver in a couple of weeks. Not expecting an upset, but hoping Niagara does decent this year,. This would really help with the Gophers late season pairwise ranking.

Hey, Gophers are No. 6 in the PairWise! UMD is FAR BELOW at No. 49! This of course practically guarantees a Gopher sweep this coming weekend...never too early to rely on the PairWise, right?

From the USCHO write-up for the weekend:
10. A B1G start

The Big Ten was 8-2-0 on the weekend against nonconference opponents, bolstering its inter-conference record after two weeks to 16-6-2 for the best (.708) win percentage so far in Division I.
Obviously this doesn't mean it's the best conference in any way, but it can only help (if mostly maintained) when the PWR starts becoming a factor next year.

I'm pretty sure the Big Ten has been second best for multiple years now. Let's see if they can finally hold a better record than the NCHC this time.

It's possible B10 had best overall one or two years but lost head to head with NCHC, which is the best conference. Four titles in a row.

Got to talk to Sandlein for about 45 min at the NCHC Media Day on topics like his interview with Anaheim, the pull of players from high school to junior to college to pro, and a little bit about he manages his program. He's always an easier chat further away from games.

“I want them focusing on themselves, on how they can get better as a player, which is going to help our team and hopefully help them down the road,” Sandelin said. “We didn’t talk about the year before last year, each year takes on its own path and teams take on their own identity. The makeup of this team we’ll be very similar. Now will those kids be willing to play as hard? I don’t know, we’ll find out, I’m going to make sure they’re trying.”

Motzko said this week that they're on a nice little run, but they are a great tournament team. I think he was trying to get at how UMD hasn't exactly been world beaters in the regular season, but in a one game elimination tourney--they've raised their game.

A nice little run...if being the BEST team in college hockey (when it counted) the past decade constitutes “a nice little run”...along with an even littler run (8-2-1 against MN last five seasons)... well yeah, I guess tBobs take is spot on  👌 :biggrin2:

After all this talk for years about the new Big Ten hockey teams (yayyyy), Vegoe now says on the podcast that UST will probably be the 61st team. I agree. Lol easy button shows the other Big Ten schools aren't really caring to try hard for it.

UST’s hand is being forced though, not the case at other big ten schools, they can take as long as they damn well please.

They can’t stay in D3, so yes they are being forced to go D1 or else club status ensues.

By choosing D1 in football they would have known hockey would have to go too. This is a choice.

I do think Illinois is giving it an honest effort. The key has always been if they could get their downtown arena development plan done. Even if they hammered out all the details and got all the money in place tomorrow, it'd still probably take more than two years before UST is D-1 before they started the program.

With the Edina pipeline getting smaller, and curious to see if Boltmann and Williams end up Motzko players, I wonder if a lot of cake eaters would end up on UST. Guessing a lot of Edina grads go there?

Hand is being forced? They want to go D1. They're not scared.
They can’t stay in D3, so yes they are being forced to go D1 or else club status ensues.
By choosing D1 in football they would have known hockey would have to go too. This is a choice.
By choosing to go D1 for football they are forcing hockey, amongst other sports to go D1 as well.

However you want to view it. The D1 decision they made was a D1 decision for the whole school.

I guess I’m not sure why I’m trying to get my point across to someone who hates 16yr old kids because they grew up in Edina, pretty sure it’s not their decision, grow the eff up.

UST could take as damn long as they please with the hockey team too lol they could go club for a few years if they are scared and play the Big Ten club teams.

My point is it'll be very interesting who becomes the next D1 hockey team, and this late entry just became one of the favorites. And will the Alaska schools and Alabama still exist by that time?

Lax the feeling from most outsiders is that UST knew they would be forced up but they secretly wanted to go DIV I anyway and now they can play the victim card. So while technically they have no choice in the matter this has all been by design.

UST as a whole wants this. You act like hockey was begging them to stay D3 which from all accounts wasnt the case. Hell UST moving D1 has been a damn near guarantee since they were "kicked out" of the MIAC. I dont get what your point is.

They wont be ready for a while...there is a lot of work to be done before they can field a D1 team. If the hockey team had any real problem with this they would have fought the school on it.

Haven’t watched any BC games but that surprising. Either way, he still projects to NHL as a wing.

I’m a fan if Boldy, just wish we had someone in wild system with potential of being a #1 center.

Feel free to explain how Boldy actually playing center 'doesn't matter" in the context of glenhogan21 thinking it would've been better to draft a center instead of Boldy?

My guess is that you will just move on to something else you can cry about.

He did play wing for years prior to handful of games at center for BC, and most scouts pre-draft projected him as wing. No idea how he’s played, but he hasn’t produced so far.

Either way, we need a #1 center and need some speed. I would have preferred Peyton Krebs. Given the nature of NHL draft we likely won’t know for 3-4 years

Ahcan was a punk. Not only were the hits really close to being headshots, he was clearly following through with his shoulder and elbow. He was chirping with the entire PSU bench on the way out.

Don't recall hearing Caulfeld's name at all in the third period.
