Jess Myers interview with Big 10 Hockey Commish. My first question was why is a wrestling coach the Hockey Commissioner?

Why is there even a hockey commish in the first place? Is there a big ten football commish? How about for baseball, volleyball, anything else?

Writing is on the wall for Alaska programs. WCHA teams minus Alaska teams minus Alabama just announced they want to start another conference.

This is the death of UAH and Alaskas. I cannot see even ASU being able to bail them out to survive.

I think UAH could potentially catch on with the AHA, but you're right. It doesn't look good for any of them.

The Alaskas were likely going to die anyway, this would just speed up that process. Remember, both the Alaska schools are moving to smaller arenas to save money. If I recall correctly, one seated under 1500 and the other seated under 1000.

What did they invision when they had these ten teams in a league? Or was it put together for survival cuz they had no other option? And now they have an option?

The latter. These teams were never really a good match. It's the smallest schools with the smallest budget with the most expensive travel. It never really made sense and was only done as they were the only schools left without conferences.

Pretty sure it was survival-based after the NaCHo formation. And in order to maintain survival, sounds like they are further needing to move.

When is St. Thomas getting the boot from the MIAC? They would fit right in as an 8th school.

I would agree with that.

The AK schools were going to die eventually, probably sooner than later.
UAH has been fighting death since before the re-alignment, thanks to the CCHA not accepting them (CCHA was counting on Bowling Green to fold, making it a 10 team conf; oops).

UAH will be added to the new league if their new arena actually is built.

AFAIK, the women's side is completely different than the men's side.

Of course. They are two different sports.

On a serious note, this isn't surprising. I'm more surprised the Alaska schools are holding on to the NCAA. I wonder if they could join the Canadian college league?

Hehe :)

Even if St. Thomas decided to make the move it would take them years before they were in a position to actually play any games.

Makes me wonder if they'll try poach one/some of the NCHC teams that are stuck at the bottom and seemingly don't have any rivals in the conference (Omaha or Miami?)

What would Omaha and Miami gain? They might win more games but they would probably lose at the box office.

Geographically (and for better rivalries), it would make the most sense for Miami/Western Michigan switch to this new league, and for Mankato/Bemidji to switch to the NCHC.

For lack of a better thread to post this - 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup | U.S. Roster: https://teamusa.usahockey.com/page/show ... u-s-roster

Pretty good cross-section of college commitments with UMD (2 total) as of now being the only team with more than 1 commitment.
Currently under construction.

These schools are no where near each other. It's almost like if Minnesota and Wisconsin decided to try and find a way to merge their teams. Not sure how this would work.

They're scrambling to find anything to keep the programs going (flinging poo). It's a shame to lose the programs but they've both been pretty bad for an extended period and I don't think the games are well attended. I can't see them ever getting serious looks from high end recruits. The travel is awful.

I just think the writing is on the wall.

If only they could schedule home games in June/July..... They'd be excellent road trips.

Edit. Anchorage would be an excellent road trip in summer. Fairbanks is horrid. I never want to go back there.

St. Cloud is looking to reduce their rink sizes and asking for funding from the State Legislature for refrigeration update. Brooks Center upgrade

Just another arena looking to do what is the inevitable by getting rid of old R-22 systems.

For some unknown reason, I have been binge watching UMDs road to the 2019 Frozen Four - 2-1 in OT against BG, 3-1 vs Quinnipiac (2016 FF Runner-up), 4-1 over Providence (Beat Minnesota State [overall number 3 seed] 6 -3 and shut-out Cornell 4 - 0; 2015 FF Champions), 3-0 vs UMass (shut-out Harvard, shut-out Notre Dame) - over and over for about the past month.

I think it's because the games are actually, things of beauty . . . .
Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . . .

I think it's because the games are actually, things of beauty . . . .
Really enjoyed watching the Bulldogs last year. Their d-men so good. Especially Samberg and Mikey Anderson.

Mikey signed (as expected) but UMD returns Shepard plus 5 of 6 D, along with 8 forwards who dressed against U Mass. Another run at a Frozen Four, then Juniors Perunovich & Samberg will sign at (season’s end) & be promptly thrust into the Blues & Jets lineup come SC Playoff time.

Future looks bright for the Bulldog blue line with Owen Gallatin, Conner Kelley, and Wyatt Kaiser all coming for the 2021-22 season.

Missed this one... never knew that the REA revenue is split.

https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/e ... -agreement
REA will continue to manage all ticket revenue from UND athletic events on behalf of UND, as it has previously. Ticket revenues will continue to be split between REA and UND, with REA retaining 52 percent of ticket revenues, while UND will retain 48 percent, which is consistent with the previous usage agreement.
In FY17, ticket sales at UND set a record of $4.4 million and was the fourth consecutive year ticket revenue has topped the $4 million mark... and yet UND men's hockey reported revenues of $4.3 million and expenses of $4.5 million. I'm guessing because 52 percent of that is going to REA?

It does sound like a good portion of the money REA takes in goes to capital improvement/upkeep/etc type funding, so if major repairs/updates need to be made, they don't have to go looking for money, it's sitting in an account waiting.

Like replacing the Whioux logos, as required by the NCAA.

None of the Whioux logos at REA have to be replaced.

Yes, they do, specifically the seats, when they wear out, whenever that might be. The mosaic in the entrance can stay, IIRC.

Things have to go their way, as it's a long road to the final, but the Bulldogs have to be considered the clear favorite to win it all again this season.

Have you been there? The place is filled with thousands of logos everywhere. I'd say 90 some percent of them will be there until the end of the arena.

Right. They don't have to actively remove anything, but any time something gets replaced, it can't have the logo any longer.

I have been there, and what SteveMN said. They cannot replace any logo once it wears out with another logo.

Not that I care to ever step foot in that place again, but maybe we need a coordinated attempt to ruin as many logos as possible.....🤔😆

I don't think you'll find many people on here who care enough about Ferris State to want to know who their captains are.

Sounds like from Jess that he was essentially cut, so may not need to.

FYI--be aware that NCHC.tv is billing customers for a 9/11 to 10/11 period, even if you didn't have a monthly subscription active at the end of last season.

As in this is a computer glitch kind of thing? I’ve used the service for a random game here or there but no subscription.

I get notifications on my phone of any credit card charges -- saw that I had a pending charge of 28.95 from Neulion Plainview US and figured out later this morning that it was an auto-renewal for a monthly subscription to NCHC.tv.

I was able to get the charge reversed. I'll probably end up getting NCHC.tv for the CC and UMD games, but I'd like my month of streaming to run during the season rather than only for '6' days of the season. Since CC controls the rights to those games, I doubt there will be anything here. I could be surprised though.

Thanks. Didn’t see anything on my cc yet but I’ll keep an eye. They probably figure enough folks don’t notice so they’ll try to squeeze out a few more dollars.
