Gerbschmidt Bit isn’t funny. It’s not nice to Green Bay fans ha ha ha, but imitating someone with a speech problem, cleft palate, and possible intellect disabled/mental retardation is not funny. It’s bullying, I don’t see the fun of making fun of disabilities. Who ever the guy is, son of some previously famous sports writer, he can stop anytime.

DAMNIT. Love YoutubeTV but this would be a deal breaker.
Possible that it's a negotiating tactic and they pick it back up?

It's possible. Roku has an issue with Fox a few weeks back and it got figured out, but the Regional networks have allready been yanked from sling and haven't returned.
Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
RSN's (including Fox North) are being systematically dropped by distributors. This will have a big impact Gopher hockey coverage on TV - likely as soon as next season.
Could see B1G offering a streaming product for hockey (like NCHC) for a monthly or yearly fee.

To be perfectly honest Gopher Hockey is the least of the RSN's issues to worry about. The Twins Wild and Wolves pay big $$ for local coverage of games, and if they can't be watched anywhere something will hit the fan.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Curious where the RSNs are making their money as they systematically get dropped. YouTube TV and Dish are notable losses.
Probably why I have to pay a $5 RSN fee with DirectTV that's outside of my regular monthly bill.
This will start to have an interesting impact on major league sports more than college. People not being able to get the Twins will be the biggest issue. Though I'm sure those leagues are happy to have people need to buy their league pass.

League pass doesn't get you local games though. So unless you root for a team outside of your home market that won't help.JWG wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27 12:48 pmCurious where the RSNs are making their money as they systematically get dropped. YouTube TV and Dish are notable losses.

I have stuck with DirecTV for 25 years now. Although there has been some contract disputes through the years, I have been very satisfied with the product. I know they are also pretty expensive, but I will pay the extra to insure I get what I want. I currently get the sports package with all the regional sports channels and the NHL center ice. I can only hope that the disputes will stay away from DTV, but I'm afraid it is just a matter of time.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
I've given up on changing providers. The number of times people do it to then get railroaded by their next contract argument has kept me just coping. Of course, with DTV, it's usually a short disagreement and we just end up paying more.
A friend has Hulu as part of the Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu package. It's basic Hulu (so not commercial free), but he likes it. He's replaced both DTV, then DirecTV Now with it.

I am not switching providers yet again. If they want to make it that difficult to watch, I just won't watch then. I am not paying $100+ per month for Mediacom, and I am not interested in switching to a 3rd streaming provider in less than 12 months. (Went Dish to PS Vue to YouTubeTV)
When Dish dropped FSN North, they dropped BigTen Network at the same time. However I see no mention of BTN in the notice sent by YouTubeTV. I hope that is at least staying...

I've stuck with Dish all this time cause I'm afraid that if I switch to Direct they will drop FSN the next day and Dish will settle.frozen4champs wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27 12:50 pmI have stuck with DirecTV for 25 years now. Fox now just owns Fox, FS1, FS2, and BTN.
Fox Sports North is one of 21 RSN's that were sold off first to Disney and then they sold them off to Sinclair, who is notoriously cheap.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
So I’m assuming this starts on March 1 and YouTubeTV will still have FSN for Saturday’s game? Also next weeks’ tournament games are all broadcast on BTN? I can remember who had them last year.
If that was the case we’d just be missing Wild games until the Twins season starts.
Also, I had Hulu Live until I switched to YouTubeTV. It was fine but the price went up like $10 more and since I could switch to a cheaper YTTv and also pick up AMC I did it. I do like the YTTv app interface better but both are solid.

Yes starts tomorrow, so will effect tomorrows games.
No 1st round games will be on BTN as they are booked with the women's BB Tournament. So MN games will either stream on BTN+, or hopefully FSN/FSN+ will pick them up like last year.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Looking ahead to next week the FSN schedule isn't great.
Regular FSN has the Wolves at 7 Fri, Wild at 3 and Loons at 7 Sat, and Wolves at 2:30 and Wild at 8 Sun
Can only find listings for FSN+ through Fri but they have SCSU at UMD at 7 Fri
So just sweep get some help and get a bye and solve all these problems.

Well, that's positive news. Gotta imagine they saw A TON of cancelations and are rethinking the decision? The statement the other day was pretty final, and now all of the sudden, negotiations are back on.
That's one thing I love about these streaming TV services. Canceling and re-subscribing is as easy as the click of a button, you can immediately show them your dissatisfaction.

Sid Hartman turns 100 on March 15th. Love him or hate him there's no denying that there is no one like him and likely never will be again.

There was a large banner at the Gopher hockey game where you could write a message to him. Of course, I wrote "to my close personal friend"..

Think of this.
Patrick Reusse is 75 years old and is not the senior sports columnist at the Strib. By 25 years....

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
I’ll admit I’m snickering at the story of the Press Bar burning down in St Cloud and now the owner being accused of arson. It wasn’t the same owner but the Press has ALWAYS been a shady place! I worked the bar across the street at DBs and thanked my lucky stars I did not work the Press! The old owner routinely cheated his staff, harassed the women ( both waitstaff and customers), and it was filthy. I’m not the least bit surprised the new owner has carried on the questionable tradition. The minute I read the original story of it burning down I turned to my hubby and said, I’ll lay odds it was a match and not an accident.

Slap some bacon on a biscuit and let’s go. We’re burning daylight.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Because they want to keep your prices low!!!

Yet never seem to drop prices when they lose channels.
The fact that HBO has been off of Dish since November of 2018 pretty much tells you all you need to know about Dish.

They can't afford to drop prices... they lost too many subscribers.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
We had Dish for a number of years and were generally satisfied. When they dropped HBO, we went to HBO Now. However, when the RSN's went away, so did we. They had jacked up the rates right before we left. Switched to YTTV and it's been okay. Our internet sucks, but the service itself is good.

Huh. She def is in the Barnard opinion of politics....the family angle makes sense, she's been in the biz forever.
Still one of my faves, given her knowledge of sports. She is not just a pretty face when it comes to that.

No news thread so not sure where to post this.
U of M just cancelled All in person classes and is moving all instruction to online.
Wow, that’s a big change. It said professors are scrambling to accommodate this change.

Zepp has been hired/fired/moved on more times than I can remember. I swear he's worked at every station in the market.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
If you’re referring to President Gabel’s memo released tonight they are not canceling in person classes. Professors have been asked to create an online plan and be prepared for such a move. Such a decision isn’t being enforced yet.

Chad Graff, former PP writer who covered the Gophers and is now with the Athletic, and his wife and child need our thoughts and prayers. Such a sad situation. They have a caringbridge page set up.

Obviously a very sad situation. His writing skills make their Caringbridge site that much more compelling. Must be just a heartbreaking situation.frozen4champs wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11 11:43 amChad Graff, former PP writer who covered the Gophers and is now with the Athletic, and his wife and child need our thoughts and prayers. That is unbelievable. He's never been a hockey guy, but when the man is 100 freaking years old and still working and doing what he was born to do, what can you say?
