That Mankato playoff series took about 5 years off of my life.
Unless you are a 'supreme master prognosticator', how exactly do we know this?
It's based on the number of extra cancer sticks he smoked over the course of the series.

The Athletic laid off 46 people today. Has anyone seen if any MN writers were any of them?

But you are right, it has to be the closest three game playoff series in Gopher hockey history, super tense from start to sudden-death overtime finish.
I had a Sconni friend staying at my place that weekend for their playoff series, and when he showed up on Fri night, he took one look at me and asked in a serious tone: "............am I safe to crash here tonight?" My friends refer to my mood that night as "The Mankato Meltdown." Basically, total rage-mode.

Former Mn State Hockey Tourney announcer has left TSN for Sportsnet. He is one of my favorite announcers and hope this doesn't affect his calling games on NBC or NBCSN.

Hard to believe that was 36 years ago, when WCCO had the Tourney. Absolutely first rate announcer.

On Monday, Minnesota Public Radio’s parent company, American Public Media Group, announced that 14 staffers from MPR and American Public Media had taken voluntary buyouts — and about the same number of employees will also be taking voluntary furloughs.
Andresen didn’t say how many employees took buyouts from each of its divisions. But at least six are longtime journalists at MPR News.

They include Laura McCallum, interim director of MPR News; deputy managing editor Lorna Benson; executive producer Kate Moos; senior editor Eric Ringham; Jim Bickal, senior producer of MPR News with Angela Davis; and business reporter Martin Moylan.

Does Eric Perkins always look like this? He looks like he's gotten zero sleep since the shutdown began, but I've only gotten back into the habit of watching local news in the past few weeks.

 Yes, always. I swear to God he doesn’t even comb his hair before going on air. He looked like this even in the studio, it has nothing to do with Covid and being home. We always watch Kare 11 and have commented on him for years, he’s a goof and he looks like a goof.

I will say I hope he keeps the funny home video clips even after this is over. Some of the kids are very funny and clever. We loved the little boy using a leaf blower to power his skateboard.

Love hearing those old NHL stories.

Dryden is awesome. If one hasn't read it, "The Game" book by him is incredible. I heard part of the interview, and it was funny to hear he thought he got drafted by one team, but in reality.....

He doesn't realize that even if what he claims is true it doesn't excuse his actions.

I never listened to AM1500 or Skor North very much.... But I just went over to check it out and realized that they are down to 1 hour of local programming a day now. The rest appears to be all national. Is this right? One hour a day? YIKES!!!

Yep. They laid off everyone except Judd and Mackey back in May, and scaled them down to 1 hour. I don't even know why they even bother with 1 hour of programming. I guess they do some podcast stuff too, but I stopped listening after the radio programs went away.

Makes sense. The sports drought is making people hungrier for sports, ANY sports. Might as well cash in on ad revenue.

I wondered what was with them cutting short their show yesterday. Hawkey kept saying that they all were okay but left it at that.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I liked Bert Blyleven as a broadcaster and will miss him. I liked when he was part of the rotation of color analysts. I'm not a huge fan of Dick Bremer though.

Exactly! I met him at Kirby Puckett charity event a long time ago and he was VERY into himself. Was quite the name dropper.

Same. I actually like all of the color guys (Bert, Morneau, Smalley). Not a fan of Bremer though.

NoDak connection!

I liked Blyleven for many years but he drifted to far to the “get off my lawn” side on analysis, the game is changing and he didn’t. Love Morneau with some Tom Kelly sprinkled in on color.

Maybe he’s the author?

But seriously, why does someone even think a book like this is a good idea? Don’t we have enough sadness and depression in our world already?

It is interesting to read about stuff you may not have known about, or lived through.

I have a book based on sports teams (of the major 4 leagues, mainly) that are no longer in existence. Of course, it's heavy on the early years of baseball, but still very interesting on how their demise came about.

"Kiss 'Em Goodbye" by Dennis Purdy.

Some stories are just bizarre.

I guess I just don't see the point in rehashing the past just to wallow in self-pity. I have yet to read a book from a successful entrepreneur or life coach who advocates dwelling on past unhappy memories as their key to success and happiness.

Knowing some of that person's public gigs (hostings and such), it does not surprise me, once I heard the name. From many accounts, he is not professional on the side-gigs.

YouTube TV is losing the Fox Regional Sports Networks on October 1st. Looks like I’ll be looking for a new streaming service.

Google has managed to take another fantastic product and find a way to screw it up. They’ve turned it into another Comcast/DirecTV complete with frequent price increases and a bunch on channels no one wants to watch
