Well, if you don't like AC/DC, get the hell outta my country. ;)

I love the new lyrics to their one song.

He's just too smug for my tastes.

I don't know. I only started listening to The Current in the past year or so, because they actually have a variety of music, and moved on from the "college music" scene. I don't need to hear GNR 5x per day.

He made the move on his own so he didn’t have to play the Cities 97 Playlist over and over again.

Yeah he left by choice. Apparently Cities want as douche as it used to be ;)

Apparently a guy I grew up with is very good friends with him cause he is all over the Facebook articles defending him. I never much liked him either and he definitely came of a a snob. Great radio voice though.

I just don't get the appeal to The Current. I've tried to listen to it because I've had some friends tell me to give it a chance. Each time I've tried I've heard one song in a couple hours that I actually liked. Admittedly Mankato has a $h!teee radio selection but I can handle even the worst station in town over The Current. That's just me, I have no problem with other people liking it but there are some people who approach liking the current to being a vegan...."I listen to The Current and you should too!"

I like the Current simply because of the variety. Will I hear a bunch of stuff I don't like? Yep. Will I hear the same band 15 times in a day? Nope. Will I find gems to download at a later date? Yep.

I had the radio on in the garage this afternoon while doing some work. My goodness, I've never heard 2 people toot their own horn like Russo and Johnny Athletic. It didn't take long and I was happier with silence. It sounded like an hour long advertisment for the athletic on KFAN. Along with a blue chew commercial every break. I can do without KFAN for awhile...

Also, on the national level, Nick Kypreos and Doug MacLean are parting ways with SportsNet. I really enjoyed then on hockey central at noon on the NHL network. John Shannon also was let go from SportsNet. Sounds like these are all cost cutting measures.

Centurylink may drop cable services in northern St. Paul suburbs (Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Oaks, Roseville, & St. Anthony

This does NOT affect phone & internet. Only cable.

I enjoy Dan Barreiro very much, but does he get a royalty every time he tweets "We didn't need him"? If so, he can retire and buy his own island at this point.

Just like every other media personality, he has his phrases. It's the way the world works in media.

BTW, I do enjoy Barreiro in small doses.

There is none...

Over the last 3 seasons, the schedule was release on 9/26 twice and 9/27 once. So I am guessing that if they stay consistant, we'll get it late next week.

I've been waiting for one side to fold. After seeing that news about even more channels going away, I set up an Xfinity installation for saturday

I’ve gone to streaming and am happy with the savings. I get 150Mbit Xfinity and YouTube tv combined are less than either Directv or Xfinity cable. I get more sports channels than I have ever had or will watch BUT no public tv channels so you need an OTA antenna. Directv used to cut out all the time when weather was bad. YouTube TV gives you 5 logins using gmail each with their own user ID unlimited recording. So my daughter who doesn’t live at home uses her gmail, and there’s an app for all devices. I know Xfinity has a low cost streaming app ($20?), not as many channels but might fit for the 2,4,5,9 and 11 crowd.

I have Netflix disc/streaming, no real cable (I get CNN and the audio music channels), and as for sports? Radio! I actually like it.

I am curious what you mean when you say no public TV channels, I have used YouTubeTV since it came out, and have all of the local channels. Maybe I'm missing what you mean. Are you referring to all of the additional channels that the local network stations broadcast, such as weather add-ons etc?

Well as someone who cut the cord like 3 years ago...I might be duct taping it up and doing it again. I have used Hulu LiveTV with Comcast internet for a long time (Hulu LiveTV was better than YouTubeTV especially the DVR) and even though it was glitchy in a few ways and annoying in others never really had any problems with it. Problem is they have raised their price twice in the past year (not big numbers but noticeable) and the price of internet is about to go up as well. Ultimately after crunching the Calculus Comcast was only $10 more a month and we have access to more channels and a much better DVR.

Most likely we will do this for a year then cut the cord again. I figure a year from now YoutubeTV and HuluLive TV will be better than they currently are. Either that or more options will be around. It sucks cause I dont really want to go back to cable but the internet price change is the driving force.

(and if any of you even mention Century Link I will hunt you down and kill you. Century Link is by far the worst company I have ever done business with and their speeds are junk)

Two things I'm fearful of in the broadcasting world:
1. Streaming services becoming as expensive as broadcast cable
2. Regional Sports Networks falling off of streaming services/cable. I'm not a great broadcasting mind but it wouldn't surprise me if other cable systems/streaming services eventually start dropping them like Dish Network is doing with FSN.

I had Century Link in the 2000’s... 😂

It was the only high speed internet that was available when I lived in Cologne.

Comcast keeps calling me and I accidentally picked up thinking it was a contractor I’m waiting to hear back from. They proceed to walk me through how their services (for 5 minutes nonstop) can meet my needs without anything more than a couple basic answers I give them. Then the guy gets upset when I tell him I’m not interested and starts up again

I really hate hanging up on people but I basically did this time. If you’re really interested in trying to sell me then maybe you shouldn’t call 20 times with no message left.

Does anyone still have Dish after they dropped FSN?

I dumped it after 20 years. But if you still have it.... You have GOT to be PISSED OFF now!

I still have Dish. Holy Crap! I didn't know they dropped BTN too. I'll have to go back to Direct as that's our only 2 options here in the country. Our internet is one step ahead of dial up.
Another humbling reminder of how I take things for granted living in the metro area.
There are pros and cons to everything. It's quiet here, little traffic, we see deer and pheasants most evenings. The other night when Mike Lynch put on the star gazing program he said "You rural people are so lucky. You couldn't see a lot of the things I'm showing you tonight if we were in the metro."

On the other hand our communications options suck.

I am curious what you mean when you say no public TV channels, I have used YouTubeTV since it came out, and have all of the local channels. Maybe I'm missing what you mean. Are you referring to all of the additional channels that the local network stations broadcast, such as weather add-ons etc?

No PBS stations. 2, 17, more?

Going to be dropping Dish this week and switching to either YouTube TV or PlayStation Vue. Also, at some point before the end of the year, YouTube will start carrying PBS & PBS Kids channels. I've just grown tired of all the carriage issues at Dish. Going to the streaming format, I can always switch to another without penalty if I become disenchanted.

Sounds like the Twins playoff games will probably be on FS-1. Another channel just dropped by Dish.
Thanks Dish

I have centurylink... $45/month for 40MBps with no issues. I have dish ($86/month) but will be dropping it Tuesday. Mediacom is hideously expensive here, and has a data cap. Just not interested.

Going to try YouTubeTV for a bit.

I think PBS and PBS Kids can be accessed with an app with no provider requirements.

For those who have transitioned to HULU, Youtube, or other services how much bandwidth do you use each month?

I know Comcast has put a cap on what I can use for any given month before they add cost. We have never come close to hitting our max but would assume those using streaming services must use a lot more data. I imagine ISPs will eventually change their billing structure to compensate for consumer shifts like this.

I am not thinking of changing, just curious.

Friday's Twin's game can only be seen on MLB Network. No FSN (remainder of games will be on FSN). Saw on Twitter that you can sign up for a free 7 day trial of YouTube TV which includes MLB network.

They really just need to go to a direct distribution model where the channel sets a price and consumers decide if the price is worth it

Not local broadcasting related but didn't know where else to put this. Sirius XM now has Johnny Carson channel (#105). If you are old like me, this station really brings back some great memories (even though it is only audio). Carson is easliy the best late night talk show host of my lifetime so far.
