The Wall was awesome, and no, I wasn't high. Hell, I own the movie. Love Floyd.
As for Leon Bridges, he's so damn good.

I am sure I've posted related before, don't care. Some Tweeter Machine stuff got me going, and popped in Public Enemy's "Apocalypse 91: The Enemy Strikes Black" cd.
The first track (linked below) definitely set the tone. The tone of it....it's saying "Ok, are you ready for some real sh**?" Then you get Rebirth, Can't Truss It, By The Time I Get To Arizona? And those are just the highlights? Jesus. Amazing album.

Here’s an off-season topic for discussion.

What band has the most talented musicians overall (not in terms of songwriting but their skills at their respective instruments).

Metallica is pretty solid with the Cliff Burton AND Jason Newsted lineups. My only peeve is that Kirk Hammett never met a note he didn't like.

Dream Theater with Portnoy on Drums and Myung on that ridiculous 6-string bass is a bit of a contender.

They had a pretty good guitarist.

If you wanna go that route, than AC/DC, since Angus Young never missed a note in his life. He never erred.

I suspect a tongue in cheek aspect to that submission. Tougher to err when you are playing three chords?

Great choices.

The Who is my solid second choice followed by Chicago (Terry Kath years) for the band that has the most talented musicians overall.

No tongue in cheek. IIRC, it was Joe Perry who said that about Angus, in praise.

I'd have to see the actual quote to understand what Joe Perry meant.

Throwing Angus Young's name out there didn't really address Zwak's question. I do like Angus Young and I do like AC/DC a lot. A great band. However, it would never cross my mind to consider AC/DC as the band with the "most talented musicians overall."

I don't either. That response was directed at the Jimi Hendrix post. The band had a great guitarist...that's about it. ;)

On that point we can agree. Jimi - great. Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, not the most talented. Pretty good though.

It was D2D that went off on a tangent. :-D

I don't think people realize how respected Terry Kath from Chicago was, if didn't die the trajectory of Chicago may have been different in the 80's.

Foo Fighters might take it on Dave Grohl alone. That said, when Dave is on Drums, their drummer sings and does a pretty good job. I forget his name. Funny thing, in my mind anyway, is something I thought about just this weekend. I hope to run into that drummer one day because I would say, "hey, aren't you that drummer from that band?" I would assume he would say yes and I would come back with, "yes, you are Alanis Morissette's drummer, right?" :D As you can see, my mind wanders to weird things sometimes.

Related, IIRC, House Of Pain's DJ eventually was Limp Bizkit's DJ. What a fall from grace.

Dave Grohl is a notoriously nice guy and I don't think he would want any egomaniacs in his band.

Listening to them tell their story a few times, it sounds as though they are the two that butt heads at times. When Dave decided to go play drums and tour with Queens of the Stone Age, it was Hawkins that was absolutely pissed. They've had their fights and nearly broken up a few times, especially early. At some point they grew up and realized that they are necessary foils for one another.

You heard his songs blasting on your stereo (car, home, whatever) and YOU felt like you were the badass. It was that kind of style and presentation.

RIP Shock G, aka Humpty. :( This one hurt, bad. Full version of Doowutchyalike, IMO one of the best party songs of that era.

I mentioned this to some on FB, but when we met with our DJ for the reception there was only one song I told him was a 'must play' on my list. It was the Humpty Dance and I still absolutely love the song today. After taking a bunch of Rock legends in recent years seems like the Man above now is interested in rap.

New director's cut with more footage of Prince shredding on My Guitar Gently Weeps during George Harrison tribute. The look on Dhani's face right before Prince kicked it in is one of pure delight. RIP George, Tom and Prince.

What a great clip @Slap Shot.
Seeing 2 surviving Wilburys, at the time, playing a GH # was great.

LL should be in as a performer. The length of his career, in that genre?! Amazing.

That being said, the RNR HOF is a joke, overall.

Jimmy Page is in as member of The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin. Stephen Stills was inducted as part of two groups in the same year. You can debate whether to call CSN a band if you want to though.

It would be four for Clapton, except the RRHOF hasn't found the time or inclination to induct John Mayall & the Blues Breakers. Another whiff.

Bands? Or band and solo? Either way, as has been said, more than a few.

The Current did 893 top essential debut albums in the past week, voting by listeners. Quite surprised at some results, not quite surprised at the top selection, given that I think most listeners are younger. I was shocked at how low Prince got, how high Metallica got, how the Beatles weren't #1. My initial guess was going to be Beatles or Led Zeppelin. Led got #2.

Pearl Jam was number one.

Current clarified the definition throughout: not the BEST, just...if you have to have a debut album in your collection, what would it be?

Not every artist nailed their debut. The Beatles certainly didn't, but they kicked ass thereafter especially from Rubber Soul thru Let it Be. For You by Prince wasn't that great and didn't get widespread claim, but his self-titled 2nd release and a handful after were tremendous. However Ten is about as good as it gets for a debut.

Considering that clarification, based on debut albums I have, The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced would be my hands down choice. Even though I do have Pearl Jam - Ten, I wouldn't have even considered it. Good album but light years removed from Jimi. I'd take The Beatles debut album over Pearl Jam too.
