How long will it take Fairbanks to follow?
UAF is at the NCAA minimum number of sponsored sports, which means if they have to cut something, they have to cut everything. But it's hard to see how they continue on.
Or they add something cheaper to replace it. See SCSU football/SCSU soccer.

So I could use a little advice from those who lived this before. I'm so lost I'm not sure where to direct Tiggsy Jr, and he really doesn't know either. He is an incoming freshman this year. He may tryout for JV or go to the captain's practices. But I will likely be encouraging him to stick with his...

Ryan Day says Ohio St would consider playing football in another conference. https://buckeyeswire.usatoday.com/2020/08/10/ohio-state-football-ryan-day-would-play-in-another-conference/ Yeah. Nope. Good luck breaking those contracts. As much money as O$U is worth in football, it still needs the B1G ...

Big Ten to cancel the 2020 season. Apparently to be officially announced on Tuesday. Vote was 12-2 to cancel with Iowa & Nebraska voting against cancelling the season. The NFL has to be thinking $$$ right now.... Put all your players in city-specific bubbles, play games like the NHL so only one goi...

The players are sounding like they're forming a union. At least they want some say in how things are handled this season and build from there. https://twitter.com/Trevorlawrencee/status/1292672300152758273?s=20 They aren't allowed to form a true union since they are not "employees". Re: College Football Talk

I just read that DII followed the DIII and cancelled all fall sports championships and won't be made up in the spring as well. So the NSIC football conference will only play the eight scheduled conference games. My guess is you'll see the NSIC cancel too. They'll want the tuition revenue but avoid ...

Do you mean Kirsten Krull? She would be good.

Yes. She's a dime.
She is smart, well-spoken, and just a huge sports fan. She would be a great addition to the FSN lineup-- I hope it happens.

The MSHSL board only voted on moving volleyball and football, didn't sound like they even broached the subject of moving spring sports. I understand the concerns which mirror those of having in person schooling this fall, but I am upset that many kids will have to choose between one thing or anothe...

Re: NCAA hockey 2020-2021 season

Keep in mind with UST being a private school, the $45K includes profit. My guess is they can easily do without profiting from the athletes and even write off those "losses." UST may even be doing so now with a number of their athletes. Also, as with any of these universities, the money they spend o...

Cost per student and cost to add a student are two different things. The financing payments and maintenance costs on the buildings don't go up if another student walks through the door. The professor doesn't get paid more if there are 14 students in his class instead of 13. Administration salary do...

Never been there, but I doubt the chairs in UST's classrooms cost $45,000. You're talking about the left hand paying the right hand. About 10 years ago, it was represented to me that the actual cost of education at CSB/SJU was around $30,000, and the remaining tuition was an unfunded scholarship (a...

St. Thomas goes to the CCHA... I just don't see how these numbers work for UST playing D-I hockey. From what I saw off of a USCHO poster who has compiled the data (and I have no reason to believe it is materially off-base), Bemidji spends about $1.7M annually for men's hockey (if not more now-- num...

Re: NCAA hockey 2020-2021 season

I don't think St. Thomas is going to have many financial issues. UST raised about $36M in FY 2019 and has an endowment of nearly $500M as of FY 2019 that has almost doubled in the past decade. Just to compare to some other institutions... SCSU raised $10.6 M in FY 2019 and has an endowment of $29M....

This is going to crush those programs who get big money for playing non-conference games. EDIT: This is NOT an argument to say that they should still play non-conference. I'm just mentioning an effect of not playing them. I would imagine all the Big Ten schools will pay some sort of buy-out to thei...
