You don't have to entirely abandon young recruiting but acting like it is some sort of prerequisite is simply not paying attention to how many good players are out there that don't commit really young.

Until they change the rules you kinda have to do it to some extent. Agreed. You can’t just sit and watch every good player go by, even if they’re in 8th grade, and just not make an effort. Recruiting is a bit of both in terms of old or young, and part of both is young. If you think "every good play...

The young hotshot that has yet to play higher levels of hockey (i.e. USHL, etc) will almost always appear to have the most upside. Everybody loves the "what if" possibilities of a young talent. Fans need to stop acting like there’s one way to do things and it has to be with local flavors only. Motzko believes that some local kids simply see getting on the Gophers roster as the pinnacle. The problem is early recruiting, that doesn’t mean you will always have older players. They will just commit at 17-18 instead of 14-15. But you also reduce the likelihood of mistakes. I appreciate any and all prospect/recruit talk. My main reason for coming to this board, last few pages notwithstanding.
You don't like listening to butthurt Cloud fans?

You can PM me and we can talk recruits if you'd like.

Re: Potential Future Recruits - Part II

Not one thing in this post backs up the claim that his primary motivation in making the switch was to win a national title. In fact, you perfectly back up my claim that he did it for the money first and foremost. That’s not to say he doesn’t want to win a natty... I’m sure he does, but it’s amusing...

Re: Potential Future Recruits - Part II

Exactly Trix. It really isn't that hard to figure out why Motzko would make the decision he did. The reality is it isn't uncommon for teams that look really good throughout the year to not get it done in the NCAAs. Whether it is a team with lots of returning talent that is a pre-season favorite... o...

Re: Potential Future Recruits - Part II

I'm not sure if you are aware but the year is 2019 and this "philosophy" resulted in a home ice loss to St. Lawrence... I agree the U should focus on Minnesota players but to act like this is still the golden era and we have a special access to players is the type of arrogance that in my opinion ge...

Re: Potential Future Recruits - Part II

Motzko looks to have a wider recruiting base than Lucia I heard Motzko say that recruiting hockey players in Minnesota is like fishing Mille Lacs, it's been over-fished. I don’t agree with this philosophy at the U. That's the philosophy you might need to take at other schools that don’t have the sa...

If that’s your attitude GopherPuck316, you may as well just watch everybody and not bother with names in the first place.

Re: Committed Recruits Update Thread

Brink!! Remember this post. Any updates? I just e mailed my source for an update. He's been out of town for a bit, and told me he will pass on info as he gets it, but currently doesn't have an update. He believes it's a 70/30 chance Brink flips his commitment to the Gophers. Sorry if I jumped the g...

Re: Committed Recruits Update Thread

Entry time is not a unilateral decision made by the staff. At the end of the day, we’re talking about more than just a hockey player. A guy has to feel he’s ready beyond just the rink and comfortable with where everything is at for his life. If everybody is on the same page, then go for it. But the ...

Re: Committed Recruits Update Thread

Notermann was a GREAT HS player who got rushed onto campus way too soon to fill depth holes (he should have played 1-2 years of Juniors after high school) & had a decent 2nd half to his freshman year....then got INJURED pretty badly his sophomore year...and is now done playing. Gotta keep your nose...

I’m curious... this is totally fine to ask but what are you seeking from asking? I’m glad you asked this Hammy because I had the same thought when I read the initial post and before I got to yours. And I think the question went over his head. Seems like the only possible impactful outcome from this...

Re: Committed Recruits Update Thread

In large part, freshman shouldn’t be expected to replace what key seniors did. It should largely be the responsibility of returning players to work hard and raise their performance level to replace them... not expecting young guys to come in and be the saviors.

Re: Committed Recruits Update Thread

Hard to really compare the two at the same stage since Hanowski never faced the rigors of junior hockey during his high school years. Though I kinda doubt Nelson will reach the 40 pt. mark in college like Hanowski did. If he can turn himself into a gritty, tough college player that pops in some dece...
