Gophers Get Back To Winning Ways, Top Seawolves 5-0

Gophers Get Back To Winning Ways, Top Seawolves 5-0

After a slip-up last Sunday against Vermont, the Gophers rebounded nicely on Friday night as they won the first of two games in Anchorage against the Seawolves by a 5-0 score to remain undefeated in WCHA play on the young season.

Sophomore Erik Haula, who led the team with 14 points going into the game, got the team out to a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Fellow sophomore Zach Budish and freshman Kyle Rau got the assists on Haula’s sixth goal of the season.

The Gophers would extend their lead in the second period with a pair of goals. Rau got his seventh of the season to steal back the team-lead from Haula. It was Rau’s fourth power play goal of the season, which also leads the team.

Just under two minutes later, a point shot from Mark Alt would find its way to the back of the net to make it 3-0 Gophers, which was the score heading into the third period.

Just 30 seconds into the final stanza, sophomore defenseman Justin Holl scored his second goal of the season to make it 4-0 Gophers. Haula would score the team’s second power play goal of the night later in the third period to make it 5-0.

Senior netminder Kent Patterson earned his fourth shutout of the season.

The Gophers will look to complete the sweep on Saturday night before heading back to the lower 48 to take on the Fighting Sioux at Mariucci Arena next weekend.

Nearly every year expectations are high for the U, but this season could be one of the most anticipated in recent memory for Gopher fans.

Gophers Drive for Six Ends in 7-4 Loss to Union

Minnesota national runner-up for seventh time

Philadelphia, Penn. – Minnesota is a program that goes into each season looking to raise banners. This year’s team was able to win the inaugural Big Ten regular season title, but came up short in the conference tourney and then again falling 7-4 to Union in the NCAA title game.

The Gopher coaching staff often preaches that their philosophy starts from defending their own goal and extends from there. Saturday night, the team was caught watching, waiting, wishing for their goalie to freeze the puck, but the Dutchmen kept ge...
