Gophers Get Back To Winning Ways, Top Seawolves 5-0

Gophers Get Back To Winning Ways, Top Seawolves 5-0

After a slip-up last Sunday against Vermont, the Gophers rebounded nicely on Friday night as they won the first of two games in Anchorage against the Seawolves by a 5-0 score to remain undefeated in WCHA play on the young season.

Sophomore Erik Haula, who led the team with 14 points going into the game, got the team out to a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Fellow sophomore Zach Budish and freshman Kyle Rau got the assists on Haula’s sixth goal of the season.

The Gophers would extend their lead in the second period with a pair of goals. Rau got his seventh of the season to steal back the team-lead from Haula. It was Rau’s fourth power play goal of the season, which also leads the team.

Just under two minutes later, a point shot from Mark Alt would find its way to the back of the net to make it 3-0 Gophers, which was the score heading into the third period.

Just 30 seconds into the final stanza, sophomore defenseman Justin Holl scored his second goal of the season to make it 4-0 Gophers. Haula would score the team’s second power play goal of the night later in the third period to make it 5-0.

Senior netminder Kent Patterson earned his fourth shutout of the season.

The Gophers will look to complete the sweep on Saturday night before heading back to the lower 48 to take on the Fighting Sioux at Mariucci Arena next weekend.

Minnesota Face North Dakota in Frozen Four

Saint Paul, Minn. – The Gophers hit a pothole last week in the Big Ten Tournament losing to Ohio State, but their ‘Fab Five’ seniors made sure they booked a spot in the Frozen Four with a 7-3 win over Robert Morris and a dominating 4-0 win over St. Cloud State in the West Regional.

“The focus this weekend was tremendous,” said Minnesota coach Don Lucia. “On the bench, I don’t know if I’ve seen it this focused and communicated and dialed in as we were for the game tonight. Again, that is a credit to our captains and right on ...

Condon's Two Goals Pace Gophers Over Colonials

Minneapolis – “This time of year, nobody’s going to give up.”

Kyle Rau’s words rung true tonight, as Minnesota had to fight hard to beat a pesky Robert Morris squad. Although Minnesota won 7-3, the game was much closer than the score indicated, with Robert Morris coming back from a 4-goal deficit in the second period to close within two and make the game very interesting into the third period.

Minnesota came out like a house of fire, registering a 5-1 shot advantage just 90 seconds into the game. However, a couple of ...
