Because they could?

If you're going to review every goal, what good does a goal judge do? It's like reviewing every ball and strike but still having an umpire behind the plate. Seems kind of unnecessary.

The goal judge has been obsolete for a number of years now.

But damn there goes my dream post-retirement gig. :)

Goal judge/red light illuminator is still a very nicely paid position with the NHL (for the Wild they sit on the pedestal stages now). In the NCAA, the pay is much less...

Same as the red light illuminator... same role. Worker's comp is not given for "Button Finger Fatigue" either... :D

At UMD, it's apparently by the number of shots for the home team...

This is awesome! Another fun new idea from Barry and his group no doubt to really highlight the importance of his non-football sports. I guess the update makes it a little better, but still what will happen to those banners? Maybe St. Cloud will put in a bid to get them since they need some more.

I think this belongs in the "Only in Wisconsin" thread.

Good lord what an awful idea. Isn't running out of space to put banners a GOOD thing for your program???

The problem is it isn't a hockey only facility. They're putting banners for a bunch of different teams because it's an all purpose arena.

All that more reason to appreciate Mariucci Arena... it is all about one team.

One team or one sport? I didn't see too much of an issue when the Women's banners were still there.

Good night for matchups in college hockey:

7 NoDak at 1 Miami on now followed by UMD At CC on CBSports channel.

Michigan v New Hampshire on FCS, not sure if I get that channel

Wisconsin v BC, can't find this one on TV anywhere

Of course...women's volleyball on BTN...

All 4 of BC's goals were within a 6 minute span in the 1st period. Hard to really judge since I'm just looking at the live box score.

Wisco is really helping "elevate" college hockey by making their opponent look that much better. Now 9-2 with a SHG.

If football can't have banners then no one can.

Barry giveth and Barry taketh away. Some day they'll wise up and dump that ass.

I find it hilarious they complain about the food service getting worse. Through last season the Kohl Center food options were hot dog, soft pretzel, and popcorn (yes in a striped box).

Kuraly, Czarnik, and Barber are for real. They are talented enough to account for 7 goals in a night by themselves.

Rocco Grimaldi would have been very good in the miami system.

Sounds like Miami outplayed them in a lot of ways [SOG & FO] - UND got better goaltending.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten tonight:

Wisco 2 at BC 9
MSU 1 at Massachusetts 3
Michigan 1 at UNH 1 OT
PSU 2 at Air Force 5

OSU is off.

Well to be fair the '93 Maine Black Bears only lost once (a 7-6 loss after leading 6-2) which was why I picked that example

Well I'm not that excited about Bucky's collapse. It's not good for B1G PWR, the new B1G/HE challenge and I have no desire to see the Gophs at #1 this early in the season (knock on wood about tonights game at BSU). Also, BC could be that good. Next weekend 7:00 CT Boston College @ Minnesota Mariucci Arena, Minneapolis BTN. Having said that, let em get it out of their system.

it's a long nonconference schedule and if we keep wining the PWR will sort itself out. I'm just going to enjoy the schaudenfreude while I can.

It's a shame UND had to win though

The PWR only matters if you are on the bubble...when the Gophers win the Big Ten it isnt going to matter much. :dup: and being #1 means zilch and the players know that.

I swear some people just look for reasons not to enjoy things...

You're excited a team that isn't relevant to you got smoked. If you didn't hate und, you wouldn't care. Hate of a team is a sign of a rivalry.

It is amazing the reading comprehension of people. No one has said there is not a mutual hatred between the teams and fans, the comment is that down the road when others have become huge rivals there will be much less care for what UND does. Try again.

If Wisconsin-Madison is the state's most prestigious university and the state itself is known as The Dairy State, does that mean UW is Bovine University?

Notre Dame looked very good against UMD last night. They have some great seniors and experience...Look like a team that is a favorite for a Frozen Four birth and national title.

Attendance for the PSU game against Vermont tonight at the Flyers' arena says more than 17K. Seems crazy to me.

You know, every time I heard Lucia say we had an extremely difficult schedule this year, I had to chuckle. Then I looked at it again and realized just how difficult this schedule is:
BCx2
Notre Dame x2
Michigan x4 (although I can't buy them yet this year...)
SCSU x1
Wisky x4
MSU x1 or 2
UMD x2 or 3

Not an easy schedule by any means.

psych: haha, damnit dx, your phone is drunk again
dxmnkd316: f*** you, I can't stop any time I want
dxmnkd316: err wait

I don't think I'm always right. I just find it hard to operate on the opposite assumption.

Too bad everybody knows we're ducking UND Fighting Whioux with such an easy schedule.

And let's not completely forget New Hampshire, a team that's generally in contention both in HEA and nationally, Mercyhurst was the favorite on USCHO to win the AHA (#2 in the AHA coaches poll), and RPI (Here for the Classic) is the favorite in ECAC on USCHO and 2nds in the pre-season coaches poll.

So, for Non-conference play, the Gophers have on the schedule based on the conference pre-season coaches poll:

HEA: BC 1 (tie), UNH 3 and ND 3 (tie)
ECAC: RPI 2, Colgate 9 (Colgate for sure, RPI maybe, both at the Classic)
AHA: Mercyhurst 2
WCHA: MSU 1, Ferris 2 (depends on Ferris/RPI result at the Classic)
NCHC: SCSU 3, UMD 6

That really is pretty insane for difficulty. 4 out of the 5 conferences have either the coaches' preseason 1 or 2 on the calendar.
"Here come the Gophers. Can they make it in time to get a shot? Rau... blocked... rebound... Holl, shot, score! Score! Justin Holl, I think he beat the buzzer. Minnesota is off the bench. A giant pile on the blueline..."
