It's a protected pick. If the Wolves miss the playoffs and they are in the lottery, the pick stays with the Wolves.
Don't let your mind wander; it's far too small to be let out on its own.

What is the word on Finley? He is the perfect fit for the Wolves. He is instantly the number 2 guy on the team and he can fill it up from both the outside and driving the lane. I hope money isn't his big issue. Miami has too many things / players going on. The other teams rumored in the mix are Detroit, Phoenix and San Antonio.

Rumors are that Spree is going to Denver.

Anthony Carter resigns with the Wolves. Does that fire you up? This has been as bad as the Wild's offseason.

Jaric should be a really solid addition. He's a big, strong point guard who can defend, and he's also an above average passer. Shouldn't be any drop off from Sam overall and he's much more likely to stay healthy.

Dear NBA Players,

Thank you for your recent protests about having to wear buisness casual attire any time you are seen in public and aren't it uniform. If it wasn't for you idiots, I wouldn't have been pulled back by hockey as quickly as I have been, and I wouldn't have spent last winter learning about soccer, which is much more entertaining than the "product" you put on the court.
Marcus Camby, I understand your predicament about needing a stipend for clothing. I myself would have a hard time making ends meet if I were making 14 million dollars a year, too. How can one survive if one needs spinners for all 7 cars, child support for 300 kids, enough bling to open your own jewelry store, and the orthopedic surgeon bill to have your foot removed from your mouth?
I wish all of you the best of luck in your dying league, and hope that at least one of you is a decent human being who doesn't continue to look every gift horse in the mouth.

Regards,
Ben

an improvement over last year. I expect much less sellfish ball (I just wish Szerbiak understood what a team is), and hopefully an honest playoff run. I don't see them winning the finals, but they will move more towards that direction.

I'm personally excited for the season. I think this team will win about 45 games and sneak into the playoffs. I'm excited to watch Mccants; he's been tearing up the preseason and I would not be suprised to see him contend for the rookie of the year. Hopefully he will learn from KG how to act professionally and stay healthy, because I don't think there was a more talented player in the draft. I'm also curious to see how the team plays for Casey. I expect them to respond very well to him.

On the dress code, I think it ranks as one of the smartest things David Stern has done as commissioner. You can't overstate how much some people hate urban, black dress and culture, and it truly is the reason alot of people don't watch the games. I think it will put a more sellable face on a product that is tremendous in my opinion, and people will come back to watching basketball. Debates about racism aside, it was a tremendous business move.

Honestly, the only way I can see an upgrade this year is if the team gels and becomes one. This is possible with Cassell gone. The new coach could have an impact in this way as well, if the team works well with him.

Odd, considering the kid played well in the two games they let him start to close out the season last year. Then they gave him no playing time in the preseason and cut him... Solid move.

Wolves and Casey win! The team looked ragged at times but played some solid defense, which was refreshing. One glaring point stood out to me though was the lack of athleticism on this team. McCants wasn't afraid to shoot. Time will tell how we do.

How about the Timberpups? First place NW Division. They beat Utah tonight 91 - 77. Timberwolves have won 8 0f 10 with road wins at LA Lakers and Sacramento. Anybody watching or care?? Wally has been really good on this road trip.

I taped the game and am about to watch it-Hobey,you and me might be the only ones here who care!!! It's no coincidence that Wally's emergence from his slump has come at the same time we have gone on a nice winning streak. Some other things have come together,Hudson playing well off the bench,Jaric has been better,Eddie G with the great all around game tonight from what I read. Great to see, because I think that Casey could be a very good coach here.

I agree with you. The Wolves are a player or two from being legit. They need another big body rebounder and a scorer / athelete. Too many specialized players / one dimensional performers. I like that Casey has them working their a$$es off and playing good defense.

The Wolves haven't really beaten anyone of note, but hey, at least they're winning these games. Regardless of the opposition they seem to be working hard and that's where it all starts.

Jaric at point guard scares me. I thnk he'd be better at off guard or even PT at small forward.

I don't follow the Timberwolves too closely but I was interested when they were talking about the Timberwolves fan base. A caller, who holds season tickets in the "nosebleed" section said that he is disappointed in the fan base that is in the lower level section of the Target Center. Apparently most of the fans down in those sections are all in "suits" and not really getting into the games. He talked about that if we had "true" fans down in those sections instead of companies sending their people out to smooze other suits...the game would be much more fun? Does anyone agree with this that goes to the games?

I was scrolling down the list of forum topics and I came across "Kessel Guy" responding to a bouncy ball topic.
I can't believe that a guy named "Kessel Guy" even gives a rats a@# about basketball. I think it's borderline blasphemy. The game of hoop should not be brought up by the hockey faithful. Have you ever seen an NBA player throw a punch? It's sissy-fighting! Pathetic!

I love your name "Kessel Guy", but I think you should put all your energy into the real sport.

Wolves winning streak snapped in Philly. The wolves lose in OT, 90 - 89. CWebb dominates the game, 27 points and 21 boards.

1st off, that was the 1st game that I've been disappointed in Casey's coaching. All we did in the OT was try and force the ball into KG,and he was being double teamed effectively by the Sixers. Did Wally even Touch the ball in the OT??? He was having another terrific game,we should have continued to run our regular sets and we would have won the game. We were WAY too predictable in overtime. Didn't help that KG was completely outclassed by Webber last night,I don't remember the last time that happened. Usually KG gets the best of that matchup, but not last night.
2nd off, there's NO WAY Artest would come here,he wants to go to New York so he can do his rap thing and be the cener of attention. I seriously doubt his 2nd choice is Minnesota. He is an all star when he wants to be,but he's just another "I play when I wanna play" guy. After the Sprewell/Cassell debacle of last season,I can't believe that Glen Taylor would want any part of that guy anyway.

Wolves lose on a last second shot by Wells with no time remaining. Wolves had a chance to go up three, but KG missed a fade away shot with 5 seconds to go (will he ever learn to take the ball to the basket and draw a foul). Tough loss!

Anybody noticing KG's low rebound totals?

I'm glad they lost. Basketball used to be fun to watch, but I don't understand why after every shot, rebound, etc. that they have to jump around on the court and yell to get so much attention! The same thing is happening in the NFL. It's embarrassing!

Be a professional, act like you've been there before, and shut your damn mouth! I hate NBA and bouncyball. It's them and MTV that are ruining this country!!!!!

Then don't watch it. I really don't understand why some hockey fans on this board feel the need to rip on basketball every chance they get. If you don't like it,don't watch it. I happen to love both sports. There are some players in the NBA that get on my nerves with some of the things that go on,but we also saw some showboating in last weekend's series at UND. I didn't hear anyone then saying that college hockey is causing the downfall of western civilization. Give it a rest. Please.

I think the reason that Kevin's rebounding average is down is that he is switching more on defense and coming out further from the basket than he used to. Under Flip's defensive philosophy you would see KG just loiter around the basket a lot more. We are a better defensive team this way but a worse rebounding team, although that wasn't the problem last night. If Hassel had stayed put on Wells, then Miller would have had to take the shot from an awkward position with a defender right on him. This team is just a little snakebit with the close losses right now. A win over the Spurs tomorrow night would definitely help erase the sour taste from the last couple of ballgames.

I will be the first to say that basketball has fallen on my list of favorite sports, but it used to be very high on my list. I still love the Wolves and follow them. I casually follow the NBA as a whole. The game of basketball is a great one. I just feel that it has become very repetitive these days. The "little things" aren't as prevalent in each players games. I will not say it is the NBA or NFL ruining this country, or anything that stupid. I will however state that the products are less entertaining in both leagues than they used to be, IMO. This is why alot of people have left the NBA, not because of the players. Sure it gets annoying to see people complain and showboat. But people do this in every sport nowadays. Basketball, Hockey, Baseball, Football. It's just something that has changed in our entire culture, not one sport.

Anyways...GO WOLVES!!!! Snap the losing streak!!

This could be one of the most re.... posts ever on GPL. For anyone to blame the downfall of the US (altough it is questionable whether the US is in a decline) on the NBA and MTV is....well....suspect. I could choose much more pervasive influences for cultural decay, try unregulated capitalism, or the consumer driven economy that breeds..... why am I even responding to this yokel?

Go Wolves.

Thoughts on Artest. Barriero and PA want this guy. Is he worth the risk?

With the decline in attendence he'd have to climb awile to kick a fan's a**...

No, he's not going to help the Wolves in my opinion... Shaq, Elton Brand, a big man who can score and allow KG to be the small forward he truly is, that's what the Wolves need.

Artest rumors are heating up according to Hartman. Talking possible three team trade . Wally's name is not involved but Hassle's name is being talked about.

i dont like the idea, cuz its bringing a negitve vibe into the locker room, if u ask me, in order to be sucsess full, we need players that are gonna wanna be part of the team, not the star of the team, but thats my look at things

Uhm, I'll bite on this one.

I doubt that MTV is doing anything negative to the country (which country were your speaking of?) But on the basketball end.... I guess I am a Hockey loving hick that thinks just about everything that the NBA stands for is wrong.

I know I will probably get flamed for it but it is how I feel. I played it as a kid. As a game, it is a good game. The NBA? No good.

To illustrate the point, take Ron Artest. In what other sport could you take a guy that

"In the 2002-03 season, Artest was suspended for instigating an altercation with Miami Heat coach Pat Riley and fined and suspended for smashing a TV camera after a game at Madison Square Garden. He also got into a shoving match with a Pacers official after a postseason loss."

The Brawl.

Now his team talks about it is time for him to go, and as I understand it, is not letting him play again for the Pacer while he is being traded.

Sounds like Randy Moss of the Basketball world.

Fans would freak out here if he was brought to the Vikings or Twins (remember Mossy Cade? yeah different kind of criminal....)

Why is it not setting off alarms? Is it because we expect that in the NBA? last year when the Wolves Had Cassell, Sprewell, Griffin, that had a pretty good list of arrests, and troubled history. Are we looking for more? Is it ok that they are the acceptable standard?

exacly, in the NBA theres lots of disrespect and stuff like that, in hockey or baseball your not gonna see a athlete get in a fight with A fan, and punch a fan, in NBA, theres people like /artest and allen iverson who have no respect, and sprewell who think becuase they are who they are, they can do what they want and are to kool for the rules and manners and respect.

No need for any hand wringing or gnashing of teeth over the possible arrival of Artest; no way he ends up here. McHale and the T'Wolves are right up there with Terry Ryan and the Twins when it comes to supposedly being "in the mix" or right on the cusp of some big trade or three way deal and then...oops! "Well, we were VERY close to something happening, but it just didn't come together". Uh huh.

Ain't that the truth. We may well win the division at 42-40.

Wolves beat Seattle, 108 - 95. KG and Wally continue to shine. Eddie G stepped up with a big game. Wally scored 30 and led the wolves in scoring for the 11th time in December. The Wolves are the only team in the N W Division with a winning record.

Good going for Eddie, hopefully he can put this together for a stretch. Wally was on fire! I am impressed so far with Coach Casey.

If EG can average 10-12 points and 5+ rebounds a game, the Wolves have a great chance to win the Northwest. I still feel that Denver, assuming they get healthy, will win the division.

You are right on Eddie there, we would be looking good. I don't see it with Denver this year, but that could be Wolves-colored glasses!

I hope you're correct on Denver...I'm not a huge ball guy, but I'd love to see KG get back in the playoffs.

Pistons win again tonight by beating the Heat. Flip's Pistons have now tied the Bulls for the best start in NBA history. Flip must be loving life right now! What a great situation for him and he is doing a heck of a job.

Note to Taylor and McHale: What do you think of Flip now?

I would have preferred firing McHale and giving Flip full control of operations, but all in all, I'm happy with Casey and very happy for Flip, he is a class guy that deserved better.

Cleveland pounds Detroit today and hands the Pistons their 4th loss of the season. LeBron went for 30 pts and also added 7 assists.

Flip is a very good coach, but he also came into a perfect situation. He was never able to tame Chauncey (granted, he was younger) and it looked like Billips was going to be a career selfish player who wouldn't have much of an impact in the league. Larry Brown turned him into one of the best players in the NBA. Not to mention, that team has great scorers who Larry just never unleashed, and I believe that was his strategy rather than a lack of skill coaching offense. We will see how Flip's faster paced style works in the playoffs, where teams get 7 looks at you in a row. Generally, the slower paced teams fare the best (think back to the Spurs disposing of the Suns in 6 games). Who knows though? Since the pistons know how to turn on their defense they may be able to switch back to a defensive style quickly and return to the finals anyway. I believe that team is so used to each other and has such good habits (from the LB era) that it is essentially self-coached.

There is a lot truth in that post, but Flip has adapted to the personal he has and succeeded (thus far...) at a pace beyond Larry. Flip is one of the top three coaches in the game, and the fact Dumars hired him is proof of that fact.

Wolves get pounded again last night. KG was quoted as saying "We are a team looking for an identity."

Wolves need to shake this bad boy up. We are now 14 - 14.

I agree the Wolves need to shake things up. The team is flat, the crowd is quiet and the attendence is terrible.

Wolves win a big game tonight by beating Denver. KG goes for 31 and 15 boards.

Twolves lose at the buzzer today. They blow a 19 point lead. I think it is time McHale gets off his a$$ and goes out and gets us a point guard or another player to help KG and Wally out. What we have now is not working.

I just saw this too, 81 points, that is insane!

Shot 28-of-46 from the floor and 18-of-20 from the foul line. He was 7-of-13 from 3-point range.

Wow... what a game to be at. Sad part is Lakers won 122-104. How bad you feel when you double the rest of your teams total?

Hopefully Flip and the Pistons put a big a$$ whoopin on the Timberwolves. Shows what a class guy Saunders is that he refuses to publicly knock the T'Wolves after the shabby way he was treated.

Go PISTONS!!!!!! and hopefully the next person to get canned is Kevin McHale. The T-Wolves really need to get someone to help KG out besides just Wally. Maybe can the Candyman along with McHale. . . .
