1. NOT staring down a 7-9 hour driving day tomorrow for the first time in a week.
2. Getting to sleep in my own bed.
3. Having the cranky, overtired four-year-old sleeping in HER own bed, in HER own room.

It was a fun trip, but it's good to be home.

So I'm watching a show I DVRed (Person of Interest) in February. At the end of one of the commercial breaks I hear, "I'm tracking a shift in Sunday's snow. I'll tell you who could get thumped at 10."

I had a moment of absolute, "What. The. F*ck." Followed immediately by an, "Oh... right..."

Couldn't help but laugh.

Wrong thread, but I thought that show is very interesting. I was glued to the entire first season.

I had that this morning when I was putting the garbage out. I wasn't barely awake since it was incredibly early and I was up late last night. I think I just stood out in the middle of the driveway for a minute or two as the breeze ushered in the cool, dry air. I would have made some breakfast and ate out on the deck if I wasn't so tired.

Seeing a refinancing process just sail along and getting an extremely good rate. We'll see if the path to the closing is just as smooth (I'm being told by mid August at the absolute latest) but thus far it's been almost too easy.

That was hilarious :)

If you notice, Sparty and the girls are doing the dance the Harvard Baseball team did when they are driving in the golf cart. Those guys started something hilarious because like every sports team does them now on road trips.

The Buckeye doing his little dances was funny too...and the little Nebraska plastic kid trying to do the worm :D

The wife and I were having a no-kid dinner at 1029 Bar a few weeks ago, and that song came over the system. I'd say there were a good five tables doing that Harvard baseball dance.

Somebody hacked into the lyrics website?

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,
But here's my number, so call me maybe
It's hard to look right, at you baby,
But here's my number, so call me maybe

Hey, I just met you, this song is terrible,
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys, try to chase me,
But here's my number, so call me maybe

There is a much funnier and dirtier parody of that song. Due to its not safe for work I won't link it though. Its called Call Me Maybe (Dirty Parody).

Reconnecting with family. Even though it took my father getting sick to bring some of my family together to make sure my parents get some things done for them, I am grateful that they have stepped up. Life is too short to let stupid crap drive a wedge in between people. The best part is when both sides come forward to say how stupid the whole thing was. Without the help and support of those people this last week with my father in the hospital would have been much harder.

Amen!

I have been relatively lucky, as my entire extended family is great and there have been very few, if any, major arguments in my family. There is a slight "quarrel" on my mom's side of the family between a couple people, hopefully it gets resolved soon because like you said, life is too short for that stuff.

It's my "Friday"! Have to make a stop at Fleet Farm on the way home after work, pack the boat, pack my clothes, play a double header for softball tonight, and then hitting the road in the morning! By tomorrow afternoon/evening we will be on the water in the Canadian wilderness.

That sounds absolutely fantastic! I've got a trip up to Canada scheduled September 6th. I saw on Facebook that a 32 inch walleye was caught there the other day. Man I would love to catch that.

We might also be making a trip to Lake of the Woods(Canadian side) in September for a long weekend too. Hell, I'd love to catch a walleye in the 28"-29" range. My best is 26". My dad, the lucky SOB, has probably caught 8 or 9 walleye that are 30"+...not fair!

Another pleasure: My old truck sold today and is officially not mine anymore. I love driving my new truck, but I am going to miss the old girl. That was the only vehicle I have had since I started driving. It's a sad day, but it's nice to have the hassle of selling it be done with and start driving my new baby. :D

That sounds awesome! I will be heading up there in a few weeks. My fiances parents own a cabin on their own island on Lake Superior in Thunder Bay, it is just gorgeous up there. We were up there earlier this month and caught a few lake trout, and also have caught salmon. Can't wait to get back up there! Have fun this weekend!

We just got back from the Canadian side of LOTW. Water is very warm, and we had bright, pretty calm, and hot weather all week. We had to get out REAL early or stay out REAL late to get the big walleyes to cooperate. Also, there were a fair few big ones (24" and up) in shallow stuffing themselves with crayfish. It was way more difficult than it normally is, but it was still awesome once we figured it out. That place is ridiculous.

Thanks for the report. I'm sure we will have similar conditions this week, hot and bright. We are going to Minnitaki(up near Lac Seul). I appreciate the info. The guy at our resort said guys are catching walleye anywhere from 5 to 35 feet on Minnitaki right now so it should be interesting to see what we can get into.

Kinda sorta finding out I got a job. I interviewed with the President of the Minneapolis market Clear Channel today and he said he approves of me and to follow up with another guy to find out the rest of the details tomorrow. So it sounds like I'm hired, but just unsure of which station to stick me with to start (selling advertising). All in all not too long of a search time after graduating in May :dup:

Learned that we just acquired a $56mm quarterly contract from the feds that even if we don't earn nearly that amount in the near future it will sustain our business for at least the 12 next months alone. Given my semi-annual bonus is now far more relative to ROI and P&I than before this is very good news. :good2:

Yesterday I was driving down the road and was behind a truck going less than 20 m.p.h. This goes on for about half a mile, and I notice he has a bumper sticker that says "Hang Up and Drive." Finally he goes to turn and I pass him and he is yakking away on his cell phone. Normally this would be a pet peeve because I think people who talk on their phones while driving should be shot on sight, but I laughed so hard I had to file it under Simple Pleasures.

Winning $14 at Canterbury :good2:

Walked in with $10, had $2 left for the second to last race, and put it on a horse to win. She won, photo finish, too! $26 payout

Then nothing about my comment was a downer. I am card player and visit both Aces and Canterbury and am happy for anyone who wins at the table games, or betting on the ponies.

I am sure you had a really good feeling when it was official that you horse won. :good2:

After a stressful day of dealing with my fathers diagnosis I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support for my family. He is left with only the promise of a handful of years now but my father couldn't be more positive. It helps immensely that he has a great attitude. This isn't my first dealing with the world of cancer but it's my first dealing with a type of cancer that has no cure or chance for remission. My Dad is taking each day as it comes and I am ready to travel that road with him.

Cub Scout Day Camp with the G_man. He got to shoot bb guns and a bow like a cowboy and indian...which was the theme of the camp. Now it's nice to be home and enjoying a cold beer and letting him tell my Dad about his day to brighten my Dad's day.

This weekend had all sorts of simple pleasures...and pet peeves, but more simple pleasures so this is going here!

My daughter's 6th birthday was here in Fargo this weekend. Lots of family coming from Mlps/Bemidji for it. A little worried about the forecast. Friday the thermometer tipped 100, everyone showed up Saturday and the temp only got to 88! Today, everyone left right away this morning (simple pleasure all in itself!) and now the temp is back up to 100! Couldn't have gotten luckier since the party was outside.

My sister, who is a Design student at UofM, made a photo album for my daughter with about 300 photos, all labeled with dates in order from the day she was born. Pretty neat! Also, I appreciated a real photo album with real pictures, not a link to a photo album online...

Someone donated a window air conditioner for my parents to use in their house. I'm headed down to see my Dad tomorrow and then going home to my parents house to install it for them. There is a lot of other stuff working for my parents right now as well, it's nice having the great small town community support for my parents while I am not living right there to help them out on a daily basis.

Kicking random people's butt in Tetris Battle during the race to 40 lines and then watching them try to finish while I have been done for minutes. It's quite entertaining!
