I saw Carters name mentioned as FA. Take Parise and Suter off the radar ... who else would you like to see the Wild pursue in FA?

Just my opinion, but if this happens, it will be refreshing for me to see a Minnesota team going out and taking what they want in free agency to improve the team. Not really the M.O. in this state.

That Sioux like play by Carter makes me hope he is forced to spend his career in the ECHL.

Personally, I like seeing these preseason games played outside of the NHL arenas. I would like to see 1, maybe 2 games played at the "X" and then 1 or 2 home preseason game played at places like Boise (ID) and even Grand Forks (ND) and Billings (MT). Preseason games are a joke for the season ticket holders and local fans. Some fans like to go to see the prospects. Get the game outside of the local market. But it comes down to the all mighty dollar and making the season ticket holders buying the preseason tickets.

I think this is good for Hackett's development as well as he will get one more year of starting experience in Houston. He should be ready to back up Harding next season when Backstrom is gone. Also, with Harding's injury history Hackett could be in line for a lot of starts within the next couple years.

If the Wild arent in the playoffs, I say Backstrom is gone by the trade deadline... Starting Goalies changing teams is rare mid-season, but I could see it if someone, say Tampa Bay, was making a run and wasnt confident in their goaltending and looking for a 1-2 year fix. It would make more sense (trade wise) for him to be gone before the season starts, however I dont think the Wild will make Hackett sit on the bench all year. However is backy gets hurt, or puts in a few lowsy games in a row like he did last year his trade value wouldnt be much anyway.

Tampa Bay NEEDS goaltending. Boston could be looking for help if/when Thomas leaves. Columbus NEEDS goaltending. New Jersey has no back-up plan in place. Winnipeg doesnt have any goalies under contract. Dallas, Florida, Edmonton, and a few other teams will have needs at goalie next season if they dont resign their guys or someone new. They fact that we have options for some other teams bodes well for us.

Backstrom has been great here and is all all-around good guy. I will be sad to see him leave, but happy when his contract clears the books.

We should draft Teravainen to maintain our team Finland of the NHL status :)

There seems to be a lot of solid defensemen expected to go around where the Wild pick so I would guess we'd go with one of them depending on availability. Is Galchenyuk expected to be available at 7? Even though he missed about a full year he sure seems like a great prospect and would love to see him in a Wild sweater down the road too.

It's hard to get as excited about the NHL draft since we won't see these guys for a couple of years but it's fun to watch them progress once they get drafted. Hopefully some trades will happen around the league to shake things up too.

Galchenyuk's stock has risen lately as he's proven he's fully recovered from his injury. I don't expect him to be around at 7 and he could even be the second or third pick.

For some reason I wouldn't be surprised if the Wild took a Finn like Teravainen or even Olli Maatta, but Teravainen doesn't really fit a need and Maatta would be a bit of a reach at 7.

Dumba's rankings are all over the place; some people have him as high as the #2 player in the draft while some have him in the early teens. He seems like he's a bit of a hit or miss prospect but he certainly could be an entertaining player. That being said, it's tough to say whether he'd still be available and whether the Wild would even be interested. He's gotten some P.K. Subban comparisons and i certainly wouldn't mind having a player like that on the Wild blue line.

What do you guys think our biggest need in the draft is? The biggest need for the team right now is obviously scoring, but we have prospects coming in that will hopefully improve that. Do we keep drafting for that need even though they likely won't play for a couple of years? Or should we just take the best available player?

This is what makes the NHL draft so tough IMO

Their biggest need is getting an offensive D-man. They got absolutely NO scoring from the defensemen last year and guys like Brodin, Scandella, and Spurgeon probably won't be big offensive threats even when they do develop fully.

Damn, the Blackhawks play at home the weekend the Gophers play at Soldier Field. BUT they play both Friday and Sunday night games, not the Saturday (between Gopher Games). Now I have to hope the Gophers play early on Sunday so I can try to get over for that National Anthem at United Center by 6:30 pm.

It will say "2013-2014" instead of "2012-2013"

According to the schedule that GPL has, they are both night games.

Most of the mock draft sites I've seen have the Wild taking either Morgan Rielly or Jacob Trouba; they both look good.

I would have preferred Trouba, but Dumba is a good pick

I call bust on Trouba. All the pre draft write ups sounded too familiar to another MN born defenseman by the name of AJ Thelen...

Trouba is from Rochester, Michigan, not Rochester, Minnesota as seems to be a typo that has spread and spread.

Thanks for that clarification. I thought it was weird that none of the local sports newscasts had ever talked about him before.

Don't start watching MrLogue1021's youtube videos of TSN SportsCentre unless you've got nothing on your schedule for the next few days.

Me as well. However, I would love to get TSN and have the option to watch Sportscentre like is shown in the clip.

My bad. The fact that I saw that and immediately thought sportscenter though says enough. Apparently TSN isn't much better.

Sorry, it was late and I was tired and felt like ranting about sportscenter... which truly is awful. I should've known that wasn't sportscenter because they were actually covering hockey.

I thought the clips were funny...annoying after a while back to back but if I saw them every once in a while I would enjoy them.

On the subject of ESPN...if people hate it so much why do they watch it? I havent watched Sportcenter for more than a minute in years, it is pretty easy to hit the button on the remote that takes the tv to another channel ;)

He told you before-hand that there would not likely be one. The asking prices for those available seems to have been pretty steep. No sense in trading prospects at this point, they are too many pieces away. Besides, aren't you the head of the Zach Parise to the Wild Fan Club? Gotta keep the powder dry if you think they can do it.

The rankings on guys out of the Top 10 are all over the place, so figure you can multiple that even more for 2nd/3rd round types. TSR had him ranked 57 at one point and pegged him as a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Impossible to critique the selection until he's got a couple more years of play under his belt.

I just saw that he slipped from 57 to 129 from the midterm to final rankings and was wondering if something happened like an injury?
