Dual pleasures:

1) The pre-travel eve late night (packing, etc.).

2) Packing all you need for a four day wedding in California into your backpack.

Yep. Fixed a couple pieces of equipment that had been slowing me down. If flaky atomic force microscopes and ancient vacuum evaporators have "women", they are lamenting up a storm right now. :dup:

No, the backpack is actually a parachute...he's going to jump out of the plane and then land into the suit which is being held by a couple of groomsmen. It's gonna be rad.

You don't need a suit for a wedding. The only people I ever see in suits or tuxes anymore are 50+, the parents, and wedding party members

It depends on how formal or laid back everyone is, though time of year seems to also be a factor.

Gotta suit up for a wedding. It's all about class, man.

That being said, I rarely even wear a dress shirt. So when I suit up, it becomes a simple pleasure.

Dress shirt, tie, leather-soled dress shoes. Nothing about that isn't classy. :confused2:

That's as far as I, and 95% of people my age, tend to go. I just don't see it in the under 30 crowd.

I usually lose the tie and unbutton the top button about 10 minutes into the reception as well

Bingo. Top button comes undone and tie gets loosened after dinner. :D

The loosening of the tie is instantaneous at the reception. And since I obviously have a suitcoat for the wedding, it's either 50/50 chance I have it draped over the shoulders or it's on a chair somewhere (ask WPoS about that  ).

I figure if I can don a tux in 100+ weather (friend's wedding, outdoors) and don a suit in 85+ weather in a non-ACed church (mel's wedding), I can don a suit anywhere. :D

This.

Sidenote: I'm also part of the "at least wear dress shirt/tie, if not a suit, at all times in Vegas" crowd. So I may be a little biased.

Honestly, you two are the only guys I know between the ages of 5 and 50 that wear suits, exclusively, to weddings. Even the relatively ritzy weddings I've been to are about a 10:1 dx garb:suit.

Whatever though. I'm not going to hold wearing a suit against anyone. ;)

You've never been to a GPL-related wedding, then. The few I've been to were about 100:1 suit:pretending to be a grown-up.

But rock just about any color combo tie/shirt. Example: an upcoming wedding, I'll be rocking the maroon shirt/gold tie. Gotta represent. :dup:

But rock just about any color combo tie/shirt. Example: an upcoming wedding, I'll be rocking the maroon shirt/gold tie. Gotta represent. :dup:

This. It amazes me what people consider "ok" to wear to a wedding. These people are paying a whole bunch of money to have you here and you show up with a freaking golf polo on? You don't have to suit up, but at least put a dress shirt on and a tie if you are feeling ambitious. I know a lot of weddings happen during the summer and it can be hot if the church doesn't have AC but you can at least be big boy boy for an hour at the ceremony and then loosen up the tie and lose the coat at the reception as others have said.

Same goes for church, IMO. I know there are many different churches nowadays and some are very laid back. My dad takes it to the extreme: suit every Sunday....no exceptions. He was raised to wear his Sunday best every Sunday and that is exactly what he does. But it shouldn't be a huge deal to put on some decent pants and a dress shirt to go to church for an hour on Sunday.

I am in the under 30 crowd and always suit up for a wedding. I don't have anything against a shirt/tie combo, but I have been to a bunch in the last 3 years, like 20+ and shocked at what people consider Ok. At a minimum wear slacks and a shirt, even if you don't have a tie on, that's better than nothing. Seen clip ons which are clipped on the outside, denim of all sorts, cargo pants and jeans and tees. Generally, a tradional "church" wedding needs a shirt-tie combo at a minimum.

The summer has lots of options too. But someone can wear a sport coat and dress shirt (with or without tie) and slacks.
A polo can work depending on the wedding (i.e. outdoor, summer wedding or beach wedding).

This should be a pet peeve but it fits the topic; people who barely take a shower before showing up for a funeral! I've seen jeans, sweatshirts, shorts and a tee, god people have some respect. I can maybe, I said maybe, let go of the black, but at least look like you bothered. I think its a real socio/economic thing. I think it's classless and tacky to dress like you just walked in from doing yard work to attend a funeral.

That's fair. If it is a more traditional wedding, shirt/tie or suit is stadnard, but a more chic or urban wedding, opens the wardrobe a bit more.

Men's Wearhouse is very good about that sort of thing. Top-notch customer service. I was in a wedding a couple years ago, and the wedding was in Madison, the couple were living in CO. They were having a buy one get one free sale or something like that. Wedding party just was going with black suits (no tuxes). Got measured here in Mpls, groom got measured in CO. He bought the suits for us, and they were delivered to the city of our residences with zero problems. I will not go to another suit place if I can help it, ever.

Seeing my 10-year Navy vet cousin's auto racing team finish 1-2 (he is a bodywork/tire specialist) in a race:

Why do I hold this special (besides being family, of course)? He joined the Navy the summer before 9-11. Talk about bad timing.

I just got 2 tickets to the Gopher/Badger Football game at Camp Randall for $6 each on Stubhub. The next cheapest ticket was $90+. Someone screwed up something, so I am counting on the Fan Protect Guarantee they advertise.

It sounds too good to be true...this may turn into a Pet Peeve, but I took the chance.

It's a boy!!! It gets better: he shares the same birthday (June 5th) as his older sister = less money spent on parties! :D

Obviously, he's already committed to the Gophers. Don't worry - his parents will make sure he stays all four years

Edit: does anybody here share the same b-day as another non-twin sibling? What the heck makes sense as far as planning b-day parties? Some folks are already insisting that we need to throw two separate parties. Really? :ahhh:

You can probably get away with shared parties while they are really little, but once they hit school age, forget it. Kids want parties with their friends and depending on their age difference they don't want to share. LOL. Of course when they get older you can do the trick my friend uses and ask them "you can have a party or you can have another present". Her kids have always picked the second gift :dup:

We are now more hopeful for a recovery more than ever. SCORE!

So fortunate to live in an area with such tremendous health care options.

That is great to hear. The Mayo took good care of my wife and I am hoping you see excellent results, also.

It's amazing how great the doctors at Mayo are. Best of luck to you and your wife!

Fresh strawberries from the garden. It's hard to get tired of eating them because they taste so darn good, even if you have 8-10lbs of them already pulled out for the year (and at least a few more coming)
