I don't know why you can't love the Twins and still think they are losers. At least this current reincarnation of total suck. Hell Cubs fans have done that with their team since I don't know ... maybe the end of WWI?

We got many decades to go and damn - we already won TWO more WS than they did. How cool is that?

EDIT: at 8-21 still on pace to lose 117+ ...

Ya'll gone make DXMN lose his mind... up in here, up in here. Didn't know we took our handles so SRSLY. Many apologies.

Nevertheless, I wasn't mad -- even after you called me Dix Hole. My original point remains: I wish you would have taken me up on that bet that you liked so much.

Better check your facts there. The Twins have not won FOUR World Series.

Okay - over the last 100+ years then. And while a NL 'Dynasty' in the teen's through the depression no WS wins. After that 'futile' is the word that comes to mind. But there is always next year!

Leave it to the Twins to make a guy who was previously like 0-6 with an ERA near 6 look like a Cy Young candidate today.

Need to designate the entire club to AAA, AAA to AA and AA to A. A will be moved to little league.
All we're doing is swapping AAA talent up and down. And, really, our AAA club is closer to AA now a days.

What I saw the first 3 innings tonight was not major league caliber. This organization should be utterly embarrassed by how bare its cupboard is.

I was talking about this organization with a vendor today. All I can think of is that this team started to turn to s**t as soon as Smith took over. It's going to take five or six years to undo the damage. Probably more. At this point, they should wholeheartedly adopt the youth movement and draft well over the next few years. Rebuild through the draft. Get willingham on a team that deserves him. Probably an AL team in need of a DH because he's almost as inept as Delmon in the field. Get some pitching prospects.

Blow it up.

Agreed. It's great the Willingham is doing so well--if he keeps it up, we could easily get a prospect for him.

So does that mean you're on board with axing Gardenhire/Vavra/Anderson? Because none of it will matter if those guys keep reinforcing their ridiculous Little League philosophies with major league hitters & pitchers.

Do you mean like "hit the ball where it's pitched" and "try to hit line-drives because they are harder to catch." I think the half of the reason the Twins can't hit for power in the new park is that nobody tries to hit for power and they're being taught to hit singles. The other half is that these players just aren't good, but that's a whole different story for another day.

If the MN legislature wants to pay for the Vikings Stadium with gambling money, they could do a lot worse than letting it ride on the Blue Jays tomorrow night.

This should be a no-brainer. Draft Zunino. Kid can play. It gives us a C and allows us to move Big Pink to 1B or the outfield full-time. I don't care if he wants to catch. He's being paid too much to risk the injuries he will inevitably get while catching from foul tips etc.

There aren't any SPs worth drafting 2nd overall. We have something like 5 picks in the top 75 IIRC, so we can probably take a risk on a couple younger Ps with upside with a couple of those picks and then draft a college P that can hopefully be ready in 2-3 years.

Pretty deep FA class next year for catchers. I really hope they don't take him--we are never going to sign a front end rotation guy, so it would seem to make sense that they should leverage the #2 overall spot on some arm they think offers that kind of potential. Whether that's Appel, Gausman or Zimmer who knows but they should be taking one of those three guys in my opinion.

Normally yes, but the Jays pretty much own the Twins. I liked the stat last night that the only players with more home runs at Target Field than Jose Bautista are Jim Thome, Michael Cuddyer, Jason Kubel, and Danny Valencia.

Stupid Question: If a player retires, is the team released from all future financial responsibilities in their contract?

I think so - but I would not be surprised to learn 'retirements are negotiated'... meaning I'll let you suckers out of the total obligations you owe me but only if you agree to pay me 75% ... otherwise I'm coming back and you owe no matter how bad I suck.

Then there is deferred payments too which kick in upon retirement.

The player goes into the Voluntary Retired List and the team ends its financial obligations toward him. I'm too lazy to look it up right now but I would be very surprised if the hypothetical that dryfly mentioned is...legal under the league's CBA.

Maybe but then why retire until your contract runs out? Make them cut you instead - in baseball they would still owe you. Most everything is done in guaranteed contracts.

The only way I would voluntarily retire with years and $$$ left is with some sort of buyout which is really what I describe and not that uncommon elsewhere in 'business'. I would be shocked if those kinds of things aren't being arranged somehow.

Duensing to be considered for starter again... He deserves another chance, although I can understand the hesitancy, given last year's poor showing. Anyone else think that the general morale may have contributed something to that?

If Gardy goes so do Rick Anderson and Joe Vavra. No manager in his right mind keeps those two guys on staff.

I am more than willing to give Terry Ryan a lot of rope. When he left the organization was in very good shape and his successor completely boofed it. I don't know if Ryan is the long term solution but I have a hell of a lot more faith him than Billy Smith.

Fantastic effort by the Twins offense today. 6 hits, 3 from Dozier, 1 each from Casilla, Doumit, and Komatsu. 22 groundouts.
Unbelievable how bad this team is.

22 groundouts? That has to be some kind of modern day record. Were they at least going the other way?

EDIT: I looked at the box score from cbssports. 18 ground ball outs with 4 double plays = 22 outs via grounder. Mauer grounded out to first, second and shortstop. He just needed one more at bat to hit for the ground ball cycle.

I don't think so.
We also hit into 4 double plays as a team and Mauer was not one of them! Although he was batting 2nd today and Mastroanni was leading off, so he didn't exactly have the opportunity to hit into a DP.

Give these guys a break...

Their moving average the last ten games is 3-7 [0.300] while just 10-26 [0.278] for the season ... they are actually playing 'better'.

Since the season is lost and the team isn't getting any power from the 3B or RF positions let's bring up the #1 rated prospect.
Here is his stats from low A ball. More than 50% of his AB's end in a HR, walk or SO. The number of errors is alarming. It will at least 2014 and probably 2015 before the Twins will be competitive again, this kid might not be polished enough by then.
