Sweet.... since this all started to come to light because of the Farve mauling in the NFC Championship, we get the Colts in the Super Bowl now , right?....or is this another f*** you to the Minnesota sports fan?

Let's change the MLB coinflip rule the year after the Twins got screwed.....Let's change the NFL overtime rule the year after the Vikes got screwed......Let's just say "sorry " to Vikes fans that after losing to a team that was proven to be using a illegal bounty system which explains the high rate of illegal hits on our QB in that game (and if you recall one of those hits directly resulted in a INT on said play).....we'll suspend some coaches and a GM. oh, and take a couple of draft picks and some cash. Everyone's happy, right?

They brokes the rules -they cheated - they should vacate. Just like when , once again, MN sports fans got screwed because our only NCAA hoops FF run ever got vacated.....mostly because we can't even cheat correctly.

I like an anti-Minnesota conspiracy as much as the next guy. But bounties have been going on since before face masks. Now somebody was actually dumb enough to talk about it and Goodell had to act.

Totally correct Sun - the NFL did what they had to do, and probably the only thing they could do. I mean, it's not like they could replay the game (or could they? ).....but my point is once again this jilted fan base takes another shot in the nuts. I hate my teams losing, but I know losing is part of being a fan. But this sick reoccurring theme of heartbreaking loses followed up by leagues changing rules that effected said loses, or teams being caught cheating after said loses just won't go away....

The real question is why didn't the refs call some of those blatant late hits when during the year you can't even fart near a QB.

The Tebow trade has hit a snag. Something in his contract about the team he gets traded to having to pay the Broncos part of the advanced salary he got.

Are you sure they didn't watch some film and realize the only QB more over rated than the one they already have is Tebow?

Wouldn't surprise me.
I think the snag is over the 1.2 million Denver already paid him and them requesting the Jets to pay them back that money or something.

Drew Brees basically said on his Twitter that this is an injustice and he demands an explanation for the suspensions. Another Saints player had an interview on SC saying these fines and suspensions are too stiff and the league is just trying to make an example out of them. Well no :censored: Sherlock. These players just don't get it and it's going to take someone to die on the field in front of them before they understand. Even then they still might not get it.

I think the bigger issue is that Payton and GM lied to the NFL to cover up the "bounty'" incident and that is why they got slapped / beat down so hard. Regardless of the Bounty / payment .. Favre or other QB's were going to be hit hard (no saying the bounty is justified or right). Saints got nailed for the Bounty and the cover up!

Can you beleive that players and former players are actually trying to blame the person who told?????? Amazes me!!

It is more common than we realize. That's why a lot of the former players who are now analysts on TV first claimed it wasn't that big of a deal. Warren Sapp was more upset at the whistleblower than anyone.

Make it Norv Turner or Denny Green, and you have a deal.

What about a three-coach system? Haslett runs most of the day-to-day stuff, Denny talks to the media, and Turner coaches them in the playoffs if somehow the Haslett treatment fails.

Fine. Take away some more draft picks (I don't know what they have left) and a $250,000 fine for the organization and a $100,000 fine for the GM. Hope you're happy.

Suspend operations for a year, but that's unpossible. Maybe no draft picks for two years, or massive amounts of fines (like double digit MMs), or roster freezes, but the NFL would face all sorts of problems with the union on those.

Union problems with contract bonuses.

This is a big dilemma. The scope of this is so huge, but the union is powerful. Goodell has to find all the fine line to not cross, yet hit them hard.

That's just it...this is SO bad, you want Goodell to just come out and say, "forget the union, shut 'em down." There's no way he can actually do that, of course.

Just spitballin' here. No way it could happen, but it'd be sweet. Allow other teams to bid for their players with no salary cap hit. If the high offer is more than the Saints were paying them, the player can choose to sign with the new team. Saints GM gets lifetime ban, and Payton is forced to be Goodell's butler for his year off.

I didn't really like Drew Brees much before the whole bounty-gate thing, but now I really don't like him.

First the whole "I DEMAND an explanation!!" thing when the story first broke. Yeah, OK Drew, who are you to demand an explanation?

Then he says this: “If NFL fans were told there were "weapons of mass destruction" enough times, they'd believe it. But what happens when you don't find any????”

Gimme a break.
"Fleeing somewhere???"
"With you blocking the only exit?... Don't be silly!"

NFL won't black out home games that didn't sell out anymore. Just saw this -
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8 ... ing-season

I guess when ticket prices are sky high the cheap seats aren't so cheap anymore. 85% is enough. When attendance dropped so much they had to do something.

Two theories on this

1. Networks pay a ton of cash for broadcast rights. The last thing they want is a blackout. Have to walk that fine line of keeping TV happy but still have people buy tickets to games.

2. Pre-emptive response to potential complaints about why games are blacked out when public founds were used to build a lot of stadums

NFLPA files suit in bounty matter

I understand that the NFLPA is pissed about the suspensions. However, if they are filing a lawsuit in this case why wouldn't they in every other case?! I have a feeling this will go against the NFLPA.

Question for the legal guru's: I thought that other grievances under the old CBA were handled by Judge Doty, so why wouldn't this go back to the judge who was part of the CBA ratification?

The pre-1973 blackouts were ridiculous. Completely sold out and you STILL couldn't see home games locally over the air. I still remember going to see the 1969 Viking post-season games against the Rams and Browns at Signal Hills in West St. Paul because Mike Thomas TV had gotten one of mega-antennas to pull in the signal.

Yep. If you had a cable box, you could do the porn trick, and turn your tv to one channel away from the one you needed to get clear viewing, and your cable box to the channel whatever you wanted was on. So if you wanted channel 47 PPV on your box, you turned it to 47, then your TV to 2, IIRC.

The reporter in one of the stories I read about this said "gunshot wounds" as in plural. The editor probably didn't catch that or if it was true, it would be extra sad if he had to shoot himself more than once.
I wonder why he went to his high school to do it? Maybe going back and thinking about the best times & thinking that his life was over?
