If I am driving a not so new car, I make it a point to park extra close to these guys... :)

The ones that park diagonally are the ones that get me. If you are in such a state that you think you are so special and want to protect your car, park farther away. It is an easy solution.

I love making them get in their vehicle through the passenger door! I often consider writing them a note, but I never seem to have paper and a pen in my car at those times...

I did this recently. A guy parked his fancy car in 2 spots in the Calhoun ramp during the busiest time. So I left a note on his windshield "Thanks for being such an asshole and taking up 2 spots. Because of your selfish behavior I left you a little surprise." Now I didn't do a damn thing to his car but can only imagine him frantically walking around it looking for the key scratch or piss against the driver door :biggrin2:

Our local financial institutions are beginning again to get on my nerves. This time it's for a $15 'maintenance fee' that Wells Fargo says is taking affect on our account in about a month. I think we qualify to have it waived but it's amazing that local credit unions or smaller banks aren't adding a ton of new customers because of this stuff. At that rate I think I would pay $90 for every time I walk into a bank.

Small banks have taken a beating and investors with money are a little leery of their solvency. I bank at Wells Fargo for two reasons: First, I can run all my investments through WF Advisors and trade essentially for free (100 transactions per year and I'm not exactly a day trader) and two, the bank is one of the precious few who emerged from the mortgage crisis very healthy by comparison. They did not require TARP money, their books are solid, and Warren Buffet thinks enough of them to sink billions of Bershire funds into their stock. Now, full disclosure, I detest banks, insurance companies and government...one extorts money and the other two are necessary evils.

Careful though with Wells Fargo brokerages. Just take a gander at what it costs to get a stock certificate printed. :yikes:

I suppose a printed stock certificate is tangible proof of ownership, but aside from a company I owned for some time, I've never had them and don't see much use for them. I have an electronic record and accumulated printed statements mailed to me quarterly. I also pay tax on dividends which gives me a tax record of ownership. Lastly, given that its financially healthy multi-billion dollar Wells Fargo, I feel that my money is safer than what a small bank could provide and certainly more secure than a mom and pop investor pretender represents. I feel more vulnerable in the topsy turvy stock market than I do with the bank.

I was talking with my dad about it this past week (I mooch off his tax software subscription :D ). It shouldn't affect me since my brokerage account is in a Roth IRA and wouldn't need to have a certificate printed. I could just sell and transfer to another holding company without a lot of issues (post-tax and all). But if I was in a traditional IRA, had to transfer for one reason or another, and required certificates, I thought I remember him saying it was something like $400-$500. He said it HAD to be a typo but it wouldn't surprise him either way.

Not sure what you're referring to specifically, but I have transferred one IRA to another two or three times and subject of stock certificates never came up. That would be problematic if one held a couple dozen company stocks in a portfolio and had to produce certificates for each one. More than problematic, it would be cost prohibitive and seriously eat into margins.

Yeah, I'm running on memory at this point (and just got home from Old Chicago so I'm a few deep). The details were a bit blurry in my mind. I remember there being a distinct reason why you might need to have certificates printed. Not 100% sure on the details.

They didn't "require it." Like the rest, they were FORCED to take it an pay interest on it.

Gotcha.

New pet peeve. Apparently graduate research assistants being paid using grant money are not allowed to hold additional jobs. The assistantship pay is based on a "20 hour week", but it works out to working a slightly better than minimum wage job for 40 hours a week. So if I wanted to make extra money grading papers or delivering pizzas, or say teaching for a test prep company ( ) at night or on weekends, that's against the rules. I understand they want you focused on research while they are paying you, but this is ridiculous.

Sitting through a terrible presentation on something you know like the back of your hand, and then having the presenters make up BS answers to questions instead of being honest and saying "I don't know, but I'll get back to you on that." We don't expect you to be an expert, but don't pretend to be one when you aren't.

DAMNIT... Ungrateful Girl strikes again (the same girl who acted like her scholarships were worthless).

Speaking about a highly-desirable internship she got (of course)...

Random Girl: "So have you started your internship yet?"
Ungrateful Girl: "Ugh, no. I have to meet with my supervisors for coffee. I have to go to all these meetings. And that was on top of 14 pages on the application [it was six] and all these interviews [maybe 2-3]."

Seriously? Complaining over that many pages, and that many interviews? Good thing she doesn't have to go through medical school applications. Her head would literally explode due to ungratefulness after getting into medical school.

My boss looked into it further, and apparently I am allowed to work, but only for 10 hours a week. I started poking around the University jobs board for something I could do on campus in my spare time to make a little extra cash, and the first gig that pops up is nude modeling for an art class. $15 an hour. And they will carve/paint/sketch my ass.

She's in my graduate cohort and several of my classes.

EDIT: My mind is going to melt due to frustration from this girl... She just comes off as so entitled, even during regular class time. I thought graduate students were supposed to be mature and collegiate to one another. :ddown:

But what makes you sit next to her in classes, or does she say this kind of crap out loud to everyone? Or how do you manage to keep seeing her outside of class? I avoid the d-bags in my cohort like the plague. They could be transexual Satan worshippers, and I would not know (or care) since I don't pay attention to them. Time to start managing your expectations about who actually gets into graduate school.

So how big a sheet of paper would that take? I kid I kid. Seriously art modeling is an easy gig. Believe me no one in that class cares that you are nude and it's not like they make you stand up with legs spread. The pose is usually curled up or laying down, more interesting curves. I did some art class gigs in college. My weirdest gig was for a foot fetish fan. I have beautiful feet and worked as a foot model for several years; catalog work mostly. But the gigs for 'art work' for feet paid a lot of bills.

You know the old saying, it goes something like..."ask not what you can do for your country, but what your nanny state can do for you."
President GWB said, "And it seems like Minnesota is pretty good at hockey, too."

"I think in the best interest of his career, he definitely would benefit from playing one more year of college," Gretzky said.

Ungrateful, impatient ER patients.

Seriously people, if you ever go to an ER, please, for the sake of everyone else, be polite and patient. It is selfish and annoying as hell if you keep looking at your watch when the physician is in the room examining you, and complaining about how long you've been in the ER. Please realize that it is ALWAYS busy in the ER, and labs, imaging, and medications TAKE TIME--not to mention people like you are the reason physicians don't get to take breaks in the ER.

I can't express enough how GD frustrating it is when people act this way in the ER...

I skipped the bread soaked in olive oil and instead opted for an 8th shot.

It worked beautifully.

My hillbilly neighbor, the junk she leaves around her yard, her foot-high weed infested lawn, and her two big obnoxious dogs. I'm thinking it might be time to invest in a privacy fence.

Another neighbor has called the police before about the dogs. There is currently a 4' chain-link fence around her yard, but one of the dogs easily hurdles it when he sees a squirrel or something to chase. I know the police have been there a few times about the dogs, but it doesn't seem to do much good.

As for the lawn, in the past she has mowed it just often enough to maintain minimum standards, but she waits until it's out of control. When she does get around to mowing it, it usually chokes the mower and leaves hay bales of cut grass behind. I've already mowed my lawn 4 times this year, and she hasn't touched hers yet. I really don't aspire to be the Neighbor Nazi, but I'm kind of losing patience.

Guys, I think we need to take up a collection for dx. Surely a tragedy of this magnitude has taken an ungodly toll on his finances, not to mention his psyche.

Yeah, but get this--the lady had been here ONE HOUR and was already roomed, and her significant other had the gall to do the whole staring-at-the-watch thing several times while we were in the room. The physician asks, "You missing an appointment or something?", to which the person says, "No, but we've been here for an hour, so I'm timing you."

If I have something wrong with me that is serious enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room, I want the doctor taking his time. Medical care is not something I want done hastily.

I don't care what someone's lawn looks like. It's the lawn-snobs that do. Heck, I don't even have a lawn.

What I don't like, is if I'm driving to Bum :censored: Nowhere, is to have to slow down from 55 to 20 and use my high beams to see if that next road is the road I need to turn on, due to no streetlights. Or any light.

No worries.

I don't mind the country, I just don't want to live out there. At least until I'm retired, maybe.

I swear, I'm generally a good-natured person...

Generally: people who trash something on moral high ground without any real knowledge of it.
Specifically: people who trash a profession based on some moral high ground without any knowledge of the profession.

"My husband had a kidney stone, they think. But you know, when you got to the ER, they don't do anything useful--they just give you an IV to make themselves feel better."

Okay lady, how about you go learn something--ANYTHING--about medicine? This is one of those people who believe that everything "natural" is better, and anything medical is terrible and a sin.

Plus, it doesn't always matter who is there first. More serious cases go first.

:confused2: :chainsaw: :ahhh:

Dr. should have just said, "In that case, I am done. Is that fast enough for you?"
President GWB said, "And it seems like Minnesota is pretty good at hockey, too."

"I think in the best interest of his career, he definitely would benefit from playing one more year of college," Gretzky said.

The more you learn about science, the more you find out that religion is ridiculous.

Let's not get crazy. I'm not a religious man, but I know many scientists and engineers who are devout.

EDIT: I'm sorry, am I doing my best Crappie with a circle hook in my mouth impression?

That's pretty much what I thought when I was 21 too. After 20 more years of life experience and seeing my children being born, I have since changed my mind.

I am only commenting on the people who believe that natural cures are better than modern medicine.

You people are making huge jumps.

Yeah, but your first one is probably not something you want to post. It starts arguments.

You are as well. I said nothing about her religion--only the fact that she trashes science without understanding it.

EDIT: And actually, I have found the opposite to be true.

Yeah, that was kind of inflammatory off the bat.

Do you think your statement might have been at fault? Go ahead and reread it. I don't really care either way; we all have to believe something and I am all for letting each individual reconcile the gap of understanding in a way that suits them.
