b. Have the authorities take their time to make sure they have all their ducks in a row and have the strongest case possible.

People don't seem to realize that if you arrest someone, you have to charge them within a reasonable amount of time (48 hours in MN IIRC). Any smart attorney would then exercise their client's right to a speedy trial thus putting the authorities under more pressure to get their facts straight.

p.s. This is not meant as support for the shooter. I just wish all the protesters realized that it takes time to build a solid case and it would jeopardize the case if they rushed it.

/end rant
Of course the logical thing is Option B, BUT part of the protest is the police handling of the case, not just the fact they haven't arrested him yet. Dismissing eye witness accounts of the shooting, doing a drug/alcohol test on the dead black kid (because god knows he must have been on drugs) but NOT on the shooter, verbally twisting the families statements to the press, now apparently not being able to find the shooter. Yes, they need to build the case before arrest, but they dismissed this case before they even tried. The police saw what they wanted to see, a black kid in a gated community of white people, and they didn't go one inch out of their way to evaluate the cirumstances . That's the focus of the anger.

Really, are you sure? Just asking, because the info I can find suggests the community is under 50% white. If you are going to criticize for "verbal twisting," you should probably not engage in the same. MOO

I really hope justice is served in this case, whatever the outcome. It really aggravates me that the race of the two individuals in this case is coming into play. As someone who owns and carries firearms regularly, I would expect that if I am in a situation where I choose to use it, I am judged on the justifiability of my decision.

It is interesting how people that want to make this a racist thing have themselves made incorrect assumptions about Zimmerman's skin color.

I'm sure the dead guy's family feels the same way.

btw I don't know if Zimmerman is guilty of a crime or not - unlike some I'm far from being in the position to specu-pontificate. (dammit, what is strikethrough code? lol)

Let's not pretend it is only those backing the deceased that are playing the race card. It was Faux News and Geraldo talking about how him wearing a hoody and having his hand near his wasteband made him look like a threat. Seeing as I wear hoodies all the time and no one is threatened by me we all know what they meant. (and they arent necessarily wrong but that shouldnt justify a homicide unless you think girls dressed slutty at the club are "asking for it")

And what does Zimmerman's race have to do with this anyways? It isnt just white people that might look down on blacks. Just because he is hispanic doesnt mean he cant be racist, just like if he was black he could be racist towards hispanics or whites. You would have a point if they made it seem like Zimmerman was white but no story does that, they talk about how he killed an unarmed black youth and may have used a racial slur on the phone. I think you are making a bit of a straw man argument about this.

Look I have no issues with the second amendment or use of force when you have reason to believe your life is in danger...problem is nothing about this case so far says he had the right to feel that way. The media is all over it because the cops at first screwed things up and since race is an issue it is instant ratings. I tend to avoid it as much as possible since it is slanted to the bias of the reporter. That said I dont think the race card is being played here, I think race actually did play a part in this and it can be an argument made for him and against him.

As for Obama, why exactly is he not allowed to have an opinion on it and should he not comment when asked? (I dont know if he was, I tend to not watch him speak these days) If it was Dubya (or any white president) wouldnt they be asked and be allowed to have an opinion? I seem to recall every president in my lifetime having an opinion about the controversial day to day stuff so I have no issue with Obama speaking out.

Lets just all agree this whole thing sucks...

Not only that, but they've taken it to another level, making incredibly broad generalizations about race beyond this situation. On the same side of the coin, I am a young adult white male who has lived in south Minneapolis for a little under a year. Want to take a stab at how many times I've felt threatened or had my life directly threatened (read: by a gun) in that short time because of the color of MY skin?

My point being, these sorts of things seem to be situational in nature, and the way some of these "contributors" to the media outlets portray this, it forces me to use the facepalm to its full effect.

It appears the screaming for help may have been Zimmerman. An eyewitness also says that Martin attacked Zimmerman as Zimmerman was going back to his SUV. Hmmm. Duke you say? Maybe Zimmerman behaved, to reverse coin an Obama term, "smartly".

I think the prudent thing to do is to wait for all of the information to come out in a court of law before rendering a verdict. BOTH sides.

Yep. I agree completely, but I have seen very few people outright supporting Zimmerman. The two camps I see are the majority camp (including media) that wants to lynch him, and the minority camp that wants to wait to see what really happened.

I'm in the minority, then. There's just not enough evidence to either convict or exonerate Zimmerman.

Church Pet Peeve: People who sit on the aisle and won't move in, so you have to climb over them to get to the seats in the middle of the pew. Really people... what's the big deal? The service lasts 1 hour. MOVE OVER! Getting really tired of seeing this almost every week.

I HATE when people who come late to church insist on sitting in the very front row. The service is 5 minutes in, and soccer mom rolls in with husband and kids in tow, distracting everyone by walking in the front of the room. I don't really go to church that often, but when I do I make sure to at least get there on time. How hard is that?

Which leads me to another church pet peeve: drink your Starbucks before you come to church, not in the sanctuary during a service. Can't make it an hour without coffee? Either get more sleep or just stay home.

Meh, I said it to FS23 on USCHO. He is a classy individual, IMO. One of the few Whioux? fans whose posts I enjoy reading. It is a bitter pill to swallow watching your favorite team get destroyed by its biggest rival, but FS23 posted fairly quickly after the game congratulating Minnesota on a job well done. I know you weren't directing it at any specific individual, dx, but I felt like explaining myself anyways since I was one of the people misusing the word "classy". :)

Couldn't agree with you more. Or when people loudly slurp on their coffee in the sanctuary during the service. That is insensitivity personified.

Gotta live the pet peeves moratorium for a brief time. Finding out my girlfriend's car broke down AGAIN while she is at the Nashville airport picking up important employees for her job. She bought the car (2006 Nissan Altima w/40,000 miles on it) ~2 months ago from Carmax, and the car had no problems for the first month. Now the past month, my girlfriend has experienced a :censored:load of problems, including the current one: a broken water pump. It is covered under Carmax's insurance coverage thingy-majiggy that she had to buy with the car, but they cannot get her in for service until next Tuesday. Yeah, that's going to work. I am ready to go punch Lindy (douche who sold her the car) in the face, and then steal a car off the lot and drive it to Tampa (assuming it makes it there without experiencing mechanical failure).

Pet peeve: Employers with tech departments that won't let you do _anything_ to their computers. Can't change any personal settings, can't bookmark a web page, can't change printing preferences, I could go on....

Just curious out there - what do your employers let you do to your work computers?

When I worked at the Science Museum, there were firewalls that would block a lot of sites...but in doing research, like maybe on something like "breast cancer", obviously having a firewall with certain blocked words, would create a problem. BUT, since my little department was one of their favorites, he told us how to get around the firewall, so he wouldn't have to come do it himself. He actually pulled up a porn site for us and said, "Surf all you want!" :)

That's pretty extreme, though...that you can't change ANY personal settings...not even printing prefs? In my biz (print production and design) that would be a HUGE problem.

Guy at my work sit in the break room with the sound on his phone full blast. I don't mind it once in awhile, but after a few days in a row it gets really really old. Just want to sit in silence sometimes if no one is talking instead of listening to his Words With Friends sound effects.....

3M, at least when I worked there.

I work in IT it keeps costs down because the less things people can F-up the less service IT has to do.

I hate when people (my sister is terrible about it) are in a group of people, and they leave their ringer volume on full blast when they're receiving a series of text messages. Put it on vibrate, we don't want to hear your text ringtone every 4 minutes!

Ass goblins who do not stop for people walking in crosswalks. Almost died one week before I get to Tampa because some guy thought that me being in a crosswalk = keep driving. He had the nerve to wave me across, like he was doing me a favor. I walked to the middle of the street where the Image was and tapped it a few times for his reminder.

There were over 100 interview requests from the media through the Jets. The presser was the way to go. Nonetheless, he is a back-up. Is it really necessary for 100 people to feel the need to interview him? My pet peeve. The media, not Tebow or the press conference.

I only made T.V. once this year. Toward the very end of Sunday's game I was in the middle of the picture for what seemed to be quite a long time. My phone started immediately going crazy. The cool part is when I showed my kids (good thing I DVR'd it). They thought that was really awesome.

I had a pedestrian do this to me and thought he was being a total a-hole. Downtown Hudson has a couple of these and there can be a lot of people walking around down there. I'm trying to watch traffic. Now I have to be conscious of every pedestrian and judge whether they may or may not decide to walk across the street....rIght....NOW!?!?!

If you're gonna cross, walk to the edge and make eye contact with the driver coming towards you to make sure they're gonna stop, then cross. If you just walk right out in front of someone, they are gonna get no damage and you are gonna be in the hospital with possible life long injuries. Ya might wanna be sure.

thing to remember is this: don't start out across the street INTO traffic. The pedestrian DOES have right of way, but shouldn't just walk out into traffic expecting to have cars just suddenly stop. Peds shoudl check to make sure the road is clear before proceeding into the crosswalk.

I thought it was the other way around. The ped always has the ROW in a crosswalk. I have been under the impression that as a driver, it's your responsibility to be sure that nobody is in or about to enter the crosswalk before you go through it.

He said the pedestrian has the ROW but the old adage of "look before you leap" does apply here. Just because you have the right of way doesnt mean you should just run out in the middle of the street. Will ROW make you feel better if you are in traction?

One of my roommates' girlfriend is apparently sub-leasing from another guy living with us this summer. Never told or asked anybody beforehand. AND they're making another guy switch rooms because she's afraid of being in the basement where her boyfriend lives.

Now when she complains about everything I can't say "It's not your :censored: ing house!" anymore.

When your friends are so whipped they basically disappear from your life for months on end. Look, I get that thins change because you think they are "The One" and that is fine but that doesnt mean you get to flake out and leave me in the dust.

This hasnt happened of late but it happens a lot so I figured I would vent now :)

Our trip consists of a lot of hiking, wading rivers, video games, and sitting around fires with booze and cigars.

This broad complained about walking too much, cut short two mornings of fishing for everybody, insisted that everyone else quit playing video games so she could watch Law and Order SVU, refused to sit in the back seat of the car , left her empties all over the river bank, and guilted my buddy into missing some quality fire time so he could pay more attention to her. In short, she had a miserable time and did her best to ruin it for everybody else that looks forward to this all year long. Why did you have to come on a trip where we do nothing you like?

When your friends are so whipped they basically disappear from your life for months on end. Look, I get that thins change because you think they are "The One" and that is fine but that doesnt mean you get to flake out and leave me in the dust.

Yeah, the chick has issues and shouldn't have been there...but you need to give your buddy the most grief. She wouldn't have been there if he'd have had a pair and said "you are NOT allowed on this trip".

Agreed. :dup:

The shelf life of your buddies relationship with that gal has just about hit it's expiration date. Kind of like an old jar of mayonnaise. Time to toss it out.

This happened recently with a friend of mine. Last November he had agreed to go to the Gopher BADger game in March with me, but hen his wife decided to take a family vacation that weekend. After not hearing from him for a month and all contact before that was started by me I decided to not take him to the home opener for the Twins. He won't confess to me but I think he has some type of agreement with his wife that they must do things together.

I think I have done everything I can to keep the friendship, but enough is enough, the 30 year friendship is going into deep freeze.

You can't blame her...I think this is one of the most basic tenets of their training program.

This times infinity. I've got a few buddies who are engaged / getting married this summer. Used to be super close friends, I think I've seen each of them two or three times in the past 6 months, and it's not for lack of me trying.

Ugh.

When I am out to eat and they insist on offering me things as though I am incapable of reading the menu and telling them what I want.

One time I should just say no to whatever they offer and then ask them to make me another offer until I hear something I want.

What do you mean by this? Like offering you different appetizers? Or asking if you want to add anything or if everything that comes on a certain item is ok with them?

As someone who works in a restaurant, it is astounding on how many people do not read the menu thoroughly. One example is that horseradish comes on the french dip we offer. 95% of people miss that and many don't want it so I always ask if it's ok with them.

I see you are 24. I hate to break it to you, but it is simply the reality of growing up. It isn't just your friends, and it isn't going to get any better - life and friendships just start to evolve.

When you get older, start taking jobs, and keeping "normal" hours, you have less time to dedicate to other things (i.e. friends, etc.). When time is at a premium, you have to set priorities, and most times spouses/significant others take precedence over friends when it comes to those priorities. During this transition age, many people find themselves in a situation where some of their friends are single and living like they are still in college, and others are living like they've been married 50 years - and it creates a gap in schedules/availability. It isn't that friends are less important to these people, it is simply a function of time. If you think said situation sucks, just wait until there are kids involved.

Its their job and they are trying to make your visit better. In many cases, it is not their choice to engage you in that "unwanted" conversation, but a policy of the restaurant. My suggestion is to politely smile and act like you're listening even if you aren't. It won't hurt you at all.

I mean when the first thing out of their mouth is, "Would you like to try some pizza shooters, shrimp poppers, or extreme fajitas?"

That's what's known as suggestive selling. It works. I'm getting hungry already...gotta go.
