So the chances go from 1% to 5% that he stays?

We are still all better off by anticipating he's gone and considering it a huge surprise bonus if he stays. It is fun to think about him back though :D

But he has the kind of skill to produce up front if needed and doing something like that could create a situation for more talent on the ice

If nothing else moving him to forward would be good for my blood pressure. Hopefully his multiple turnovers per game would occur in the other team's zone.

What time was the show on? Is there a podcast link for the show? I couldn't find one.

I'd love for him to be correct. I guess I am just a tad skeptical when it comes to these situations. I'd rather err on the side of leaving.

Certainly the parents and his uncle seem to want him to come back for another year. So I can see why the coach would feel that way. I guess we'll see.

There is a chance since Florida has quite a few top forward prospects that may or may not be ahead of Bjugstad in the Panthers eyes. That is the real key, what the Florida scouts think of Bjugstad vs. other prospects

The normal 6:00. It was only on through the U's website (free). I don't know if there is a podcast anywhere.

That would explain things. There was a Twins broadcast on AM1500 at 6:00 yesterday. :chainsaw: :censored:

That would be huge if he did indeed come back for his Junior year, that first line of Rau,Bjugs and Budish could stay intact and be a force in the WCHA again.

Don Lucia called in to the Sunday Sports show with Dave and Sid and made the statement that He thought there was a pretty good chance that Bjugstad would be back next year. I heard it Sunday Morning around 10:30 ish

He did add that it would be up to Bjugstad but that his family was well grounded and would probably convey to him that at 19 he does not have to be in a hurry to move on.

Michael Bitzer going to play with Alexandria in the NAHL next year? Seems to be quite the goalie to not be playing in the USHL. Anyone hearing anything about him? Colleges?

People always seem to fall in love with a goalie that does well at state. But a lot of good HS goalies go off to juniors and take time to get a scholly.

IMO, the Gophers should never bring in another goalie that doesn't have at least two years of junior hockey experience.

I was thinking the same thing. He's been great the past couple years and today he has certainly proved that he can handle the big stage. He doesn't quite look like an NAHL goalie.

I was trying to watch Jack Glover of Benilde as close as I could (on TV)...I believe it was Hammy who mentioned he was getting a lot of attention recently. I can see the size and the skill...looks like a good skater, his head is always up, but he looked REALLY lazy out there. Maybe he played 30 minutes and needed to conserve his energy, but there just didn't seem to be any urgency in his game. There was one play where Edina had a chance in front of the net and Glover just did a pirouette in front of the crease. He didn't even move his stick to try to break up the pass or the shot. Just made me scratch my head!

I agree Davey.

Does anyone know if Ryan Collins even played last night for Benilde did not see him at all on the ice? I think he was an interesting choice by USA Hockey.

I didn't see the entire game, although i watched the end this morning via DVR, but i was thinking that of BSM in general there for a while. It seemed like they didn't have too much urgency to their game at the beginning and i noticed some plays in general where they just seemed content with loosing the race to the puck. Kind of shocked me given the stage that they were on.

Yeah I saw him out there a few times. Must have been impressive during the Advanced 15's. He's had a tough year, battling mono and what not.

The NTDP program has always had a fascination with size and long range potential. Glover was an interesting case in that he was not one of the Minnesota Hockey choices for the national Select 15 camp out of the local festival, but was added later and wound up the top rated defenseman (by USHR) at the national camp. Other top rated local defensemen by USHR were Blaine's Alex Copa (#4), Benilde's Ryan Collins (#7) and Stillwater's Mitch Reinke (#15).

Not that this is a shock in the least but Keegan Iverson is headed to Portland (WHL). I'll give him credit though... at least he wasn't wishy washy about it by committing to a college and then bailing on it.

Exactly, and he went to Major Jr's when it will provide the most benefit to him...as a 16 year old. I am still perplexed when kids leave when they are 18 or 19 to play in a league with older kids... The Winterhawks coach is at a lot of games here in the metro. Best of luck to Iverson.

From the Strib's All-Metro basketball team.....

Lumpkin has the athleticism to bounce between forward and guard. He can post an opponent, shoot from the perimeter. Lumpkin, who averaged 19.5 points a night, shot nearly 70 percent from two-point range and 82 percent from the free-throw line. He is going to Northwestern.

In the long run he probably made the right choice, but it might have been fun to see what would have happened if this kid would have been a hockey player like his father, former Gopher and NFL defensive back, Sean Lumpkin.

During the 2011-12 campaign, Glover played for Benilde-St. Margaret's (Minn.) High School of the Minnesota State High School League and notched two goals and 16 assists in 27 games as the Red Knights claimed the 2012 MSHSL Class AA State Championship.

NOTES: Eichel, Fiegl, MacInnis, Bliss and Glover all competed for Team USA in the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games from Jan. 13-22, 2012, in Innsbruck, Austria. I'm hoping for a Verbal from Glover. He's a big kid who moves well, not much of a mean streak but is pretty smooth...

I've heard rumblings that he may decommit from Brown. Regardless of what he does, he won't be QMJHL bound like many speculate. He'll definitely play college hockey next year. I think he'll end up playing at Brown because he wants to play with his brother.

Sounds like he'll have a tough choice considering his dad is the varsity head coach. It would be a huge loss for the Pirate hockey team but great for that community...hope the kid will wear a gopher jersey like he used to at his mite practices.

Agreed that Crookston is, well, Crookston. But H.S. coaches are usually the most outspoken against the Development Program in Michigan and against kids leaving early. I wouldn't be suprised to see the kid stick it out in H.S. If he does go, I wouldn't be suprised to see his dad run out as coach.

For me, the NTDP is perfect for a kid like Bittner. Let's be honest... he's not going to get the competition at his HS to push him. If he was at a good burb conference or on a team that travels a lot for good competition (Duluth East), that's one thing. But not where he is at now. He's raw but has the tools to mold into something good.

As for Mario, he's already signed an LOI for Notre Dame. Not to mention, he didn't decide to go elsewhere because of the results here. Obviously they were trying to avoid any conflicts via nepotism.

Agreed with Hammy re: Bittner although Crookston's schedule isn't as bad as I thought it would be. They played Blake, Brainerd, Red River, Hermantown, TRF, Roseau, Bemidji, and Warroad. That said, they weren't a good team.. :)

It's funny that they're in the Mariucci Conference with Moorhead, but Moorhead hasn't played them in years. The Spuds pretty much do what Duluth East does.

Probably not a "Potential Future Recruit" but as long as we are on the NTDP subject this is kind of interesting reading on a slow day. Those of us of a certain age remember the father.

Haven't heard anything specific on these players, but I'm sure the staff knows about these kids. I did get down to one of their games this winter and Norman (Maplewood), Slattery (Roseville), Marcel Godbout (a Michigan State recruit from Detroit), Ryan Tait (Santa Clarita, California) and Brett Boeing (Barrington, Illinois) look like players with a likely D-1 future to me. NoDak recruit Charlie Pelnik did not play in the game I saw. As far as opinions on Chase Phelps, I was very impressed with his hands. I'd like to see him a few more times.

The "USA Hockey" national championships were this past weekend. Shattuck's U-16 lost in the quarterfinals of the midget minor division to the L.A. Junior Kings. The Long Island Royals wound up winning the championship.

In the bantam division, Shattuck's Tier 1 team lost in the semifinals to the St. Louis Jr. Blues team (led by Matthew Tkachuk, son of former NHL star Keith). St.Louis lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Jr. Knights in the final. (STORY)

Shattuck's Prep team won the major midget championship, beating the L.A. Junior Kings in the final. (STORY)

For those that are curious about next year's NTDP, it sounds like there will only be two Minnesota native players on the team next year. Shane Gersich and Jack Glover are the two players that will be in Ann Arbor next year. They still have two forwards, one defensman, and both goalie positions open, but it doesn't sound like any Minnesotans will be in the mix for these positions.
