Try any of the Serge Leone westerns w/ good old Clint! That was my first thought when I saw Drive. "The Man With No Name" uses the same techniques. Also shades of "The Professional" (Natalie Portman's first film at age 10 I think), but really the westerns. Rum Dairy was a big disappointment and I admit I haven't seen Land of Blood and Honey yet. Rum Dairy was filmed YEARS ago and shelved, that's not a good sign for most films and it's true for this one.Slap Shot wrote:I'm less than 10 minutes into Drive (had to stay home with the kids today) and I'm trying to figure out what movie I'm reminded of so far. Not as far as plot or story, but of the introduction of Gosling's charachter. The lack of dialogue, his mannerisms, the framing of the shots. I don't think I've seen any of the other movies the director has done but it's deja vu.

btw - from the previews I added Rum Diary and In The Land of Blood and Honey to my queue.

Tell me (us, I suppose) how you like the rest of Drive. I thought it was fantastic; the client I was with did not like it.
Fun side note: I saw Drive at Green Hills Movie Theatre in Nashville. As I entered the theater the movie was in, I turned around, and Nicole Kidman was right behind me. Pretty cool to see her within a few feet of me. I told her how much I loved her in Moulin Rouge...in my head. No words came out.

Next on my list is Moneyball. Is it worth seeing?

Underworld? There are 3 sequels/prequels out or coming out to that already. Underworld 2: Evolution; Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (prequel) and Underworld: Awakening, which comes out this year. It's the same freakin' movie with the same costume.

Taken 2 is now #1 on my must see list.

I never have seen any of those movies, nor the originals (except Total Recall).
Dark Knight Rises, the new GI Joe, Taken 2, and Lincoln are on my list.

I bet you fancy kids might even be able to get it On Demand or Netflix it.

Although once I've SEEN (insert movie), I can usually watch it whenever. Like The Hangover right now.

Jackie Brown is an excellent movie.

Really enjoyed it. It was a good CIA-style spy movie (lots of betrayal, lots of WTF moments).
Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds were great together (a pleasant surprise because it's a roll I was surprised to see Reynolds take--he seemed more likely to stick to the Rom-Com genre, especially after the bust that was Green Lantern).
I liked it. But then again, I like almost all spy movies.

If you want to see that ugly mug for 2 hours, by all means, it will be a solid date movie.Bushwood Gopher wrote:Beauner wrote:Don't think I posted this yet but I went and saw Safe House the other day.

I thought it was good, too. Intense action, very suspenseful and Denzel was terrific.
Looking forward to seeing Act of Valor when it comes out.

From a public health perspective, it was actually relatively reasonable. Of course, several roles were compressed into one or a few, and a few key moments were dramatized, but public health professors at the U were not unsatisfied with the portrayal.

See it. Be prepared to be motivated, saddened and proud...and all at the same time. Fantastic movie.

I saw it. Slightly disappointed in the script but the operational scenes were the best of any movie I've ever seen. I thought they did a terrific job of showing/conveying the daring spirit that comprises SOF personnel. The scene with Senior interrogating Christo was priceless. The greatness and courage of these men never ceases to amaze me.
Don't see those often in the theater. Thanks, that's weird...why is it coming to the Lagoon then? If it's already OnDemand before it even hits the theaters it must be a stinkerSuperstar wrote:That trailer was posted a couple months ago...and the movie is already available on OnDemand if you can't wait to see it.

Magnolia Pictures is an American film distributor, and is a holding of 2929 Entertainment, owned by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban. Magnolia was formed in 2001 by Bill Banowsky and Eamonn Bowles, and specializes in both foreign and independent films.
Films distributed by Magnolia typically appear on the cable television channel HDNet Movies (also owned by Cuban) during their first week of release.

I'm ashamed to admit I'll go see it, only because the main cast is in it. And it can't be worse than American Wedding.
