I was a little worried earlier today as all my main horses were quickly doing nothing, but then the 4th qtr of the afternoon games seemed to get back to where things should have been. I didn't have the best week, but I'm onto the championship and didn't have to worry about whether to start Kevin Smith over Antonio Brown.

As one of my FB friends tonight best said it...if the Vikings move I become a Chiefs fan forever :biggrin2:

Grossman over Ben? I is confoozed.

Not sure why. Roethlisberger was Questionable for Monday night and Grossman has put up numbers the last few weeks. Wash is also likelier to be playing from behind (i.e. RG passes all game long) and the Steelers are playing a tough D.

Rule #1 of FFL: Never bench your starters. If Ben is most likely playing, you start him. Period. I've been in FFL for 20+ years, and I've seen more mistakes based on "matchups" than simply trusting your regular starters. Yes, I've committed a few.

Ben is questionable tomorrow night. If he were to have played today, I could have made a game time decision.

Oh well.

In actual NFL news, Baltimore is getting blown right out of Qualcomm tonight. I thought this could be a good game, not as one sided as it has been thus far

If anything, I would have thought SD would have been on the wrong side of the blowout. Rivers is just so.....Rivers.

And if he doesn't play on Mon night most teams can't afford a goose egg from the QB spot. It's a totally defensible decision. And Roethlisberger may not outscore Grossman from today anyway.

And if you "know" Ben, he'll play if he can move. I'll take an immobile Ben over a mobile Grossman any day of the week. I don't care who the opponent is.

Grossman was the only QB that made sense to pick up quickly. There was no way I could risk Ben not playing.

This was the big league - $200 to join and $5 per transaction. Last years winner made just under $2000. Oh well. It's nice being back in FFL. I took over a 10 year hiatus and found that football wasn't interesting in the slightest without it.

24-2 in December/January for Philip Rivers (25-2 after tonight). San Diego will be 20-2 in December/January under Norv Turner.
Why do people not know these things? I picked this game in my bet with a buddy of mine without a second thought. Especially with Flacco on the road. I was pretty psyched when I saw he picked Baltimore

I hear ya. My main league is $100/$5 for transactions/16 rounds/12 team. It's taxing, to say the least, but oh so fun. It's like a 4-5 month chess match. We've pretty much had the same league since I joined, and it's so awesome. Really creates rivalries....

If/when I bet (more "if" nowadays) I take the last year or two in context, and nothing more. Too many variables like free agency, trades, injuries, etc to affect a bet like that. ;)

That is too bad, really. $50? That's the area between not caring and OMG SERIOUS for me. $100 is perfect, $150 would probably be the borderline for me, given the lifetime of the league I'm in.

I look at it the same way I would with bringing that money to Vegas. I only bring what I plan to lose. $50 is about how much the entertainment value fantasy football has. Anything more and I really think it's not worth it.

That being said, I tend to win.

Guy I'm playing next week is a family member who I beat both times we played this year. He still ended up winning the division because my team laid an egg one too many times this year, but it worked out well because I think I would have been knocked out this week. Christmas day with the family could be quite amusing between the two of us

"What I plan to lose..." That's the worst. That says you plan on losing it, period. Horrible attitude. That affects your decisions overall. You have already decided that you will eventually lose that money, subconsciously at best. You need the "I'm going to win" attitude. The "I will beat the game while I'm there" attitude (since the longer you stay, the more the odds are against you).

You go there with the attitude of strike quick, strike hard, get my money, make smart decisions, then yay fun time.

Nah, I'd sit at the blackjack table and play basic strategy all night. Plus I know how to and can successfully count multideck shoes. So I would probably keep that running tally in my head and bring it out once or twice an hour.

You go to Vegas with the idea that you're going to win, you're going to wind up walking back home. Without a shirt. And a handful of smashed fingers.

Wrong. You may lose, but at least you give yourself a chance. I haven't learned to count cards, I will admit. However, I have a decent knack for blackjack and sports betting. Last time I was in Vegas, I had 1K gambling. After 3 days of gambling/eating the non-$3 buffets (Brazilian buffets, aka Fogo, etc), drinks at the clubs, etc, I had $900. The last night I then changed attitude, and went the go-big-or-go-home attitude. Stupid. Affected my decisions, my style, etc. Still had fun, but if I had stayed the course, chances are I would have come out ahead.

Funny how when the Denver Tebows finally play a good team with a good offense, they lose. I'm so shocked. Maybe the unbelievable hype machine behind this kid will calm down for a bit now.

In fairness, the Motor City Kitties destroyed them 45-10 in the Teblow era too.
I get the feeling that whenever they play an offense that can score they will get boned hard. But when they play dog-crap teams like the Vikings, Raiders, Chiefs, etc. they'll pull out a win in the 4th quarter and everybody will get chubs at ESPN.

Oh well, he'll be back on the bench where he belongs next season so I won't have to hear about him much. Elway realizes in a passing league it is good to have a quarterback who can pass.

That may not be the worst idea ever. If Ponder's the guy, you absolutely trade away the #1 and get a sh*tload of picks or trades. Now, if you get the #1 and DON'T think Ponder's the future, you draft Luck and then trade Ponder for a sh*tload of picks or trades.

Your use of that term made me think of this.

I'm sure not a lot of people are watching Colts/Texans, but did anybody see the "Roughing the Passer" on JJ Watt?

Apparently tackling the QB is illegal in the NFL now. Might as well make it 2 hand touch

I'm still playing for the #3 spot in our FFL, but am already saddened that the season is coming to an end.

The great thing about fantasy football is also one of the great things about the NFL in general. Every game means something. They will probably screw this up and turn it into a 26 game season sometime in my lifetime.

What do other fantasy football people do after the season ends next week?

Our season always ended in week 16 and week 17 lost 98% of its luster unless the Vikings aren't in the playoff hunt.

My buddy last year did a "fantasy football playoff version." You draft players from playoff teams and re-draft them each week based on who is still left in the playoffs. If you draft players that win in round 1 their points double (12 for TDs, 2 points/10 yards) for round 2. If they win round 2, they double again in round 3 (24 for TDs, 4 points/10 yards). Kinda combined a "pick'em" with fantasy football because obviously you want to get the best guys from the teams you think will make a significant run.

For week 17, we used to have a Pro Bowl between the two divisions (we have set divisions year after year). Whichever division won, each team got $5 (equivalent of one transaction fee). Other than that, the playoff FFL thing.

I told you all this Bears team wouldn't win another game after Cutler was hurt. They've been exposed for the lack of depth and crappy players they are once you get past the Top 5.

This will be the worst collapse in NFL history.

And, the only person who will lose his job is Mike Martz. That's how sad this is. Lovie could coach the Gophers. In 8 seasons; only 3 play off appearances, back-to-back winning seasons only once (in years 2 and 3), and after tonight and going 1-6 against the Pack in the past 7, a losing record against your rival.

Yea, he deserves to come back... sure thing... And don't give me the injury excuses. The Pack is short two OL's tonight and they're still making Peppers and company look like a JV team. Not a one sack and little to no pressure.

I found it interesting that Dallas took the "This game doesn't matter" approach against Philadelphia, once the Giants had beaten the Jets, because it COULD make a difference if they had won. With both Dallas and the Giants at 8-7, the Giants win the division win or tie; with Dallas at 9-6 and the Giants at 8-7, DALLAS wins the division win or tie. I know a tie is unlikely, but I'd like to maximize my chances to get to the post-season.

First off, our "#2" running back lost us one game on his own without help.
Second, don't think a one of those personnel losses is the reason the Bears lost tonight. Those 35 points allowed by the defense has nothing to do with not having those starters. Bell looked as good as Forte would have.

There is no excuse to cover going from 7-3 to 7-8 likely 7-9. The defense has failed this team the past two weeks and that has nothing to do with injuries other than the safety position.

And the overall coaching stats speak for themselves. 4 losses to your #1 rival in 12 months, 6 of the last 7, only 3 play off appearances in 8 years, only 1 in the last 5 years since a Superbowl appearance and only being able to put together 1 back-to-back winning season run. Yup, that's because they had 3 injuries on the offense over the past 5 weeks.

No worries though, they'll pull a Brewster and turn the OC over again for the 3rd time and bring in the 4th under Smith.

The Packers have injuries too but if we lost Rodgers the team would be done. Injuries is a legitimate excuse when you lose Forte and Cutler. It's kind of like the Chiefs situation losing Charles and Cassel. Not really any teams that can recover from that and I have little doubt that either team would've made the playoffs if those players weren't injured.

The defense let up 35 points sure. But if the offense is on the field more they have a better shot. I think the Packers are a better team either way but I honestly was scared of playing the Bears for a possible third time in the playoffs when Cutler was still healthy.

The Bears controlled the ball for 11:36 longer than Green Bay and ran more plays by a wide margin (19 or so). This Bears team failed well beyond the QB and RB positions. They were exposed for a lack of depth - no one thought they'd win out without Cutler, but surely they could go 3-3 against the very weak AFC West and Vikings (for 4 of those 6 games) and get into the playoffs allowing the return of Cutler. This mess goes beyond one half of a season and last night was not about injuries. That f'n slant burned Bowman and company all night - with no adjustments to correct for it.

The defense is showing its age, we have no linebackers waiting in the wings, the S and CB positions are already a mess and the front 4 haven't gotten decent pressure in weeks (not a single sack or even a knock down last night). Even Peppers is getting up in age - while still a major threat today.

We'll muddle along using this year's injuries as the excuse and accept what has turned out to be a very mediocre GM and coaching staff for another 2-3 years. The McCaskeys are the Pohlads of the south - cheap. The Bears are just over $11m under the salary cap. Now, I know this is the last of a two year deal where you could carry that cap money into the next season, but at the point you're 7-3 and your starting QB and RB go down, you use that to insure your season.... or not...

At least the Vikings will get a top 3 draft pick.

The Packers can, and often do, score in less than 2 minutes using few plays, so this argument should be shelved.

The NFL has become a league of survival. The injuries are just brutal, and if good teams are lucky enough to get to the playoffs with a healthy roster (I'm looking at you, Favre lead Vikings of 09) they have a chance to win. If you suffer key injuries, such as the QB position, good luck.

Does anyone have a theory as to why we saw so much hurry-up offense in the first half of the season, yet very little since?

I first was thinking it was injury related, but now I see no correlation. With the significant success in that offensive scheme, I can't figure out why everyone has stopped using it again.

Maybe because players weren't well conditioned so shortly after the lockout ending? That's the only reason I could think of

This would be my guess. After a lockout, the defenses were supposed to have the advantage because so much of an NFL offense is based on timing, so maybe coaches decided to try to neutralize their advantage by keeping the defense on the field and wearing them out.

That's the worst kind of loss/best kind of win. Just depends on what side you're on.

What would suck about losing is that no way is he still out there throwing ahead by that much other than trying to break the record. But then it's not really much different than losIng by one point on garbage yardage at the end of a blowout Monday Night game, which I did.

Or losing by one point on a 51 yard TD toss in OT because of yardage by QB, WR, and the TD points.....like my opponent did one year. :ahhh: Yeah, it happened. 1 yard less passing/rec on that combo.......he would have won.

I lost by the points on that final throw... That rat bastard.

You just have to be up 55 points with your QB still to go in the Monday night game. That works pretty well for avoiding garbage time scores/upsets :biggrin2:

A LOT of missed calls in favor of Packers in the Lions/Packers game.

So they couldn't show BAL-CIN locally instead of DEN-KC?

Den-KC is CBS's prime game today it sounded like. "The majority of you will see Denver take on Kansas City" was said after the pregame stuff.

Colts get first pick! I can breathe a sigh of relief.

If they don't draft Luck and give him the Rodgers treatment, I'll be pissed.

The Bills are now the only team to not make the playoffs in this century. :anger: :ddown: :(

So Giants & Cowboys winner goes to the playoffs?
That's right, I'm cheering for Washington.

How about that final drive by the Giants? Up by two scores with 4 minutes left, they pretty much shoved it down the Cowboy's throat. If that were the Vikings they would have tried to run the ball and then punt on 4th down. Manning lit up the Cowboys on a drive that the Giants wanted to score on, not just run out the clock.

The Giants remind me an awful lot of last year's Green Bay team. I would not want them in the playoffs right now. They have just as good of a chance as anyone else and Eli has already proven he can go into Green Bay and win.

I was thinking the same thing. To get to Indianapolis Green Bay will most likely have to defeat the Giants and then either New Orleans or San Francisco (I'm betting New Orleans). Should be fun to watch.
