Awesome finals. Great games, plenty of drama, and huge ratings...good for the league. Was cool to see Dirk leave the court in tears. He deserves it. It's hard to appreciate how good he is. He scored 62 points in the 4th quarters of the series. The same total as James and Wade combined.

Pippen calling him out last week was truly pathetic!

Nice Post. I agree.
You seen Mr. James face in the 4th quarter, he looked scared, or unsure at times.
With Jordan, in the 4th quarter, he ate you for lunch!

I agree 100%.

The Marketing, Advertising, and the $ in sports is like it has never been before & when James entered the league. James is the biggest marketing campaign ever in team sports. He hasn't earned his hype. When Jordan was in the league he had to earn his stripes when he was consistently getting knocked out of the playoffs by the Pistons, no one anointed him the chosen one, he earned that when he started hanging banners.

If James wouldn't have received all the hype while he was in high school and would have entered the draft as a more "normal" elite player there is not question in my mind he would be considered in the elite grouping of a handful of players but he certainly wouldn't be regarded as the "King" of the sport or the "chosen one."

Plain and simple he is overrated from how he is projected.

I get that James is not a likable character. But I don't get the love affair with Dallas. It seems like the biggest knock on James is his ego. But the Mavericks are owned by the one of the biggest egomaniacs of all time. And last I hear LeBron has never used a woman as a punching bag like that gutless piece of :censored: Jason Kidd. I don't care one iota who wins in that worthless sport but I just find it interesting how people decide to cheer for one team or another.

For me, I always like to cheer for the "under dog" when I am watching sports that don't include one of the Minnesota Teams. Usually if the under dog pulls it off it makes for a good game or series where if the favorite wins you have the potential to see blow outs or quick series.

As far as the Heat and wanting them to lose its kind of like wanting to see the champ get knocked off oh wait they weren't champs yet but they sure thought and acted like they were.

To me a few of the jokes this past year in regards to the Heat
1. The Decision Show
2. The Championship style parade last summer in Miami
3. Lebron

Bill Simmons has his own website now and wrote this article about the NBA prior to the Mavs winning last night. I thought it was pretty good.

Yeah, when I think about it I guess in the NBA deciding who to cheer for by which team has less thugs might be a very hard thing to do. :P

Zwak: Thanks for posting this link.

From the article:

"Why are they losing money?

1. The economy tanked and fans don't have the same disposable income.
2. The secondary ticket market lessened the need to buy season tickets; you can just cherry-pick 10 regular-season games online and skip the other 31.
3. We're slowly learning that fans would rather stay home, watch sports on their crystal-clear HD widescreen and surf the Internet over hauling their asses to a stadium, then pay for (overpriced) parking, (overpriced) mediocre food and drinks, and (overpriced) mediocre tickets."

These reasons given above for why the NBA is struggling seem also to apply to something near and dear to all of us here...

The first part isn't true. It was fair; the Heat just stunk. As for the second part, yeah, Stern probably hoped for otherwise. Problem was, the Mavs seized every opportunity they were given throughout the series. The Heat should have won in five.

Well what I had heard (and saw in the box score) is that Dallas committed something like 25 player fouls and shot like 18 free throws. Usually that kind of disparity doesn't happen. Again, I didn't see any of the game and didn't really want to, but going based on that box score it seems like Miami was getting the benefit of many calls.

I think the knocks on Cuban are out of touch. I too used to not be a fan of his, but he has kept his mouth shut, took a team from the a few years ago in which he was criticized for canning a likeable coach, rebuilt the team with a new coach and beat the pre-ordained next NBA dynasty in 6 games with the final game on the road. The local franchises could use a Mark Cuban.

I agree. Nobody has to like his style or when he speaks out. But when it comes to being an owner he is no lame duck (we know what that is like in Minnesota), he invests in his franchise and takes care of his players.

Replica LeBron 2011 Rings on Thursday

The Peoria Chiefs have added a LeBron James 2011 NBA Championship Replica Ring Giveaway to all fans on Thursday June 16 to enhance the Salute to the 1990s Chicago Bulls Championship Teams Night. The replica ring, which like LeBron's is non-existent, will be handed out to all fans through the gates prior to the 7:00 p.m. game against Wisconsin.

In addition to the LeBron replica ring, the Chiefs are looking into whether or not the game can skip the fourth inning to honor King James who took off the fourth quarter of every finals game.

"We aren't sure if the league will allow it," said team President Rocky Vonachen. "But if LeBron doesn't need to show up for the fourth, maybe we won't either."

One lucky fan will win a replica of James' 2011 Finals MVP Award which he earned with his clutch fourth quarter play. Fans will also have the opportunity to learn how to perform the Heimlich to prevent themselves or their colleagues from choking in a big situation.

To publicly mock/humiliate a person in this fashion is unseemly. Yeah LeBron is immature and how he handled his free agency was classless. So is this promotion Peoria's running.

This is exactly what Lebron wanted, all the hype, the circus, people gushing over him, he just didn't expect it to be in this fashion. He was thinking the championship would be handed to him. I will give him credit though for knowing that he needed more talent around him because there is no way in hell he can carry a team on his own. Hell D-Wade couldn't even carry the team with Lebron as his side show.

Postby MATT » Wed 6/15/11 8:38 am

i thought i saw this on here, but just did a quick glance back and did not see it. lebron on sunday:

"Absolutely not. Because at the end of the day, all the people that was rooting on me to fail, at the end of the day they have to wake up tomorrow and have the same life that they had before they woke up today. They have the same personal problems they had today. I’m going to continue to live the way I want to live and continue to do the things that I want to do with me and my family and be happy with that. They can get a few days or a few months or whatever the case may be on being happy about not only myself, but the Miami Heat not accomplishing their goal, but they have to get back to the real world at some point."

aaand, the backpedal yesterday:

"I think it’s interpreted different than what I was trying to get out there. Basically, I was saying, at the end of the day, this season is over and regarding hatred, not only myself, but everyone has to move on with their lives, as well. They have to move on with their lives and their day-to-day, good or bad, as I do, too, at the end of the day. I’ve got to move on with my life. So it wasn’t saying that I’m superior or better than anyone else, any man or woman on this planet, I’m not. I would never, ever look at myself better than any of you guys sitting here or anybody that watches our game, or anybody that would look at me as a professional basketball player. I’m not superior to anyone. So, it may have come off wrong, but that wasn’t my intent."

Ever?!?!?

You sure about that?

If I see a man or woman physically beating/assaulting my wife or kids, I would have no problem cold cocking them right in the jaw.

EDIT: OBVIOUSLY you don't hit women. But there are certain circumstances where you need to protect your own.

Sorry for the hyperbole. I assumed people would know I was talking about a one on one situation with a spouse, etc. As in even if she is calling you every name in the book, throwing a remote at you, whatever, you leave. You don't give her a pop to the jaw. Thought that was self-explanatory.

To be honest I didn't even know about Jason Kidd doing that or I forgot from the time it happened? Shows how much I follow the sport other than catching a bit of the playoffs.

Well, he pleaded guilty to it. And where I come from there are no excuses for hitting a woman. Ever.

It's kind of a guilty until proven innocent crime that you might be better off just pleading guilty to. Especially if >50% of the jury is female.

Kobe does have 5 rings. At lease they didn't put Lebron on there who hasn't accomplished squat and has been a choke artist in the playoffs.

I dont care one iota about the NBA but I think all the Lebron hate is friggin hilarious. How many of you were calling out Garnett for the same stuff Lebron has been accused of? (choke artist, couldnt win without help) I know we like to pretend he was this great teammate and wonderful man in the community, but he wasnt, he was a friggin d-bag and even his biggest fans at KFAN were admitting it the last few years. This is a guy who punched other players in the face at practice for chrissakes. (not to mention he was known to pull the always popular "Dont you know who I am" bs around town if he didnt get his way) But yet somehow some fans worship him like he was a taller Kirby Puckett or something...

Lebron may be a douche, but 99% of you would be bowing at his presence if he played for the Wolves...and dont even bother to pretend to deny it you will only make yourself look foolish.

Lebron is what 26 years old? I highly doubt he will go ofer his career for titles no matter how much the haters pray he does. It is funny though, Kobe (allegedly...of course OJ was allegedly too) raped a girl and was still cheered as he flew from his trial to the games that year. The media (and a lot of fans) cant stop slobbering his knob like he is Joe Mauer and they are the Star Tribune.

BTW Jordan couldnt win without Pippen, Bird couldnt win without McHale/Parrish/Ainge, Magic couldnt win without Worthy/Kareem...etc. That is usually how team sports work, you need a team around you.

Feel free not to respond, I don't plan to read this thread again since I only checked in to see what you alll thought about the Rubio overhype anyways. Feel free to have your Anti-Lebron circle jerk :D

Ummm, Lebron has Bosch and Wade and still couldn't win it. Garnett when he was here had no where near close to that, and Nowitski doesn't have that either.

Lebron hate is justified. Did you listen to his news conference after Game 7? Even if you love everything he does on the court you can easily hate him for that.

Explored: Steve Nash for Wolves' No. 2

The Phoenix Suns' general posture has been to rebuff trade inquiries for star guard Steve Nash, but the Suns have had discussions this month with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a deal to send Nash to Minnesota in a package for the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday's draft, according to sources briefed on the talks.

Who were Garnet's teammates? Szczerbiak, was suppose to be his go to man for how many years, yeah nice try on that one T-Wolves FAIL? I'll take Bosh or Wade. The one year Garnett had a decent cast around him with Cassel and Sprewell (aging veterans) they went to the conference finals. And if I remember correctly Garnett was always receiving heat for not getting out of the first round and not wanting to take big shots. I don't remember Garnett dogging the Wolves and leaving as a free agent, he was part of a trade that at least compensated the Wolves. He also stayed in Minnesota for many years trying to make it work with mediocre teams. Lebron bolted a year after finishing with the best record in the East. I don't believe Garnett held a tv show about taking his talents to Boston. I do believe he was much more humble in defeat last year against the Lakers than Lebron's attempt this year. Lebron has ran with all this hype and he has only escalated it. It is not uprising that people want to see the "illegitimate King" be dethroned.

As far as Jordan no question that he had a great cast around him. However, Bosh and Wade were proven all-starts year after year without Lebron. The debate is open in regards to how good Pippen would have been on his own.

The fact that you made a comment about Lebron playing for the Wolves even though it was a "what if" is foolish

IMO your post was a FAIL. Although you did bring yourself into the middle of the circle jerk and brought some Lebron Love with you, I will give you credit for that.

I don't hate Lebron. However, call me petty if you want, but his "decision" show totally rubbed me the wrong way. I honestly don't care that he left Cleveland but to do an hour long TV show about his decision was not smart.

I agree, I don't think I would say I hate Lebron but when watching sports where I am not interested in either teams I will usually pull for the underdog with the hope of a good game/series. It makes it that much easier to root against him.

Can we just fire Rambis already? I mean, we're giving him homework assignments (as in papers to write), not letting him attend the draft, etc. The leadership of this franchise is almost a case study in how not to do it.

A report is in that Rambis is fired, and it will be announced after the draft. Rambis won't be in the war room.

Not that I care about the NBA, but saw this story and jumped in this thread to see if there was any news on it.

He was such a great hire. Why did we fire Casey again? Oh, that's right, cause McHale was an idiot.

Fired after two years when he was promised four? Seems kind of ridiculous for Kahn when he even said in 2009 when he hired him that they had a young team who needed 2-3 years to develop. Add in Rubio and a #2 pick (or whoever they trade for), plus Love, Johnson and the rest of the team and Rambis could have a shot at a competitive team

While I know playing defense israre in the NBA, hopefully they hire a coach who at least makes the team TRY to defend. We were top 10 in offensive scoring, but dead last in scoring defense.

If this team had the ability to defend, they may have won >17 games.

Rambis got fired because his relationship with Kahn deteriorated as the season went along. When you and your boss don't get along your days are numbered.

And don't know that I think Rambis was the problem in that relationship. The Timberwolves are the Chicago Cubs of baseball (as in inept) but the Phoenix Coyotes of hockey (as in no one cares). At least people love their Cubs.

Can the Vikings play in the Target Center and can the Timberwolves move to LA to rescue the Clippers from being the most ignored franchise in the NBA?

What the heck is Kahn doing? He hasn't publically fired Rambis, but is still actively interviewing people for a non-open spot?

I'm guessing money is involved (will cost less to officially fire him after a certain point in time?) Then again, it's Kahn we're talking about here...

Congrats to the Lynx who won the first round of the WNBA playoffs. I think this is the first time to win a playoff series in MN since like 2004. (Although I would trade a Vikings win for a Lynx championship)
