GPL Message Board Upgrade

I upgraded the message board software to the most recent version. Please let me know if there are any problems.

The changes are mostly on the back-end, the only one you may notice is that there is now a "QuIck Reply" button at the bottom of a thread. It's a bare bones text box if you just want to type something up quick. Use the regular reply button when you want to do more formatting.

I am thinking about adding a new chat MOD as well. One that is a little more secure and not flash based. I may do that tonight. The old chat will stay around until I feel a new chat works better and more efficient.

The schedule isn't up either. I am not sure if you even had it up yet.

The smile thing reminds me of something.... If there is a smilie that you want on the site, post it here and I can add it to the list. I am also thinking about thinning out the lesser used smilies as well. So let me know if there are ones you don't mind being gone.

I don't know about that. We already have a member that is a regular on the radio, with specific mention of GPL. I figure it is only a matter of time before there is a GPL Weekly on FSN, then who knows...maybe Warren Buffet buys you out.

The spammers are still getting through. So I guess I may need to make some changes.

For a long time I used a question that must be answered correctly in order to get the registration through. I will change that question and see how it goes. Apparently the spambots can search the internet to get answers to these questions. It's either that or they are somehow bypassing the Q&A.

Recently a few spambots have gotten through to create a thread advertising something. There was one yesterday that replied to a thread with an ad. We got rid of those as fast I we noticed them.... But for the most part there have been a bunch of new spammers getting registered and either not being able to activate their account or have not been able to post. I think I deleted about 50+ users in the last few days. But in the last day after I made a change, there have been zero registrations.

Not a message board software upgrade, but I did just upgrade the database MySQL server/software from version 4.1.2 to version 5.1.56. It was extremely nerve-racking because I really have no clue how to do a lot of this stuff. I was given some command by the provider and pretty much had to hope everything ran well. The upgrade brought the server to it's knees. It was running at 100%, which is never good. I was really afraid it would crap out midstream and I would be screwed. But all seems well.

Everything seems to be working fine here, but you never know what it may have messed up. So please let me know if you see anything wrong or have problems.

I just PM'ed you.... It should be RED now.

As for the popup, you need to set you profile so you get a popup. It's a setting in the control panel. Then you need to set your browser to allow popups for GPL too since most people have popups turned off.

One change I have noticed is on my iPhone. I have always had GPL on my home screen and the icon has been a shrunken version of the message board. The icon has now changed to the GPL "logo". Not sure if it was intentional or not but it looks much cooler now.

I was on the main phpBB site yesterday when I stumbled upon that. All I had to do was add a small image to the root folder with a specific name. Took just a few minutes to do. Looks much nicer.

I just made some slight graphical changes up top... The logo is bigger and off to the side. The text is bigger and a deeper color. You won't see much of the logo on iOS, but I made the changes more for a standard browser.

I will be tweaking the color scheme on GPL over the next few days, so at times things will look a bit "off". The plan is to make slight changes to the background vanilla/tan colors. Make it a bit bolder, but not too bold. I will also be making a few changes to the main banner/background as well. It's just not where I want it yet...

The site is just looking a bit stale to me. I don't want to make drastic changes, just subtle ones that don't take a ton of time to do.

I think the site needed a bit more gold colors to offset the maroon. So I made a few tweaks to the banner and background. A few folder icons have been given a little more kick as well. Again nothing dramatic. I also fixed the banner for iOS and Android so you can actually see the logo... Not sure what else I am going to change in the future, but I think we're good for now.

I definitely noticed the change in the folders. Something just seemed off and it took a few seconds of staring at the screen to figure it out.

I have been really slacking in keeping the Portal MOD and Gallery MOD up to date. As of right now I am 3 versions behind with the Portal MOD and 5 version behind on the Gallery MOD. So over the next few days I will be working on updating those MODs.

Since I have done quite a bit of customization with the Portal page, when I update the MOD it will go back to it's original look. So I will need to go in and make some changes once I get it up and running. So there will be times during the next few days where the Portal page will not look right. So please be patient while I am working on it.

Both the Portal and Gallery MODs are getting new "version 2" type of upgrades soon by the creators, so I need to get these MODs updated to the most recent version so I can upgrade to the new versions once they come out in the next year.

As you can see by looking at the Portal Page.... The MOD has been updated.

Yes I know it is missing things and looks "off", but it's at least working. I will start working on bringing back the customizations that you are used to right away. It take a day or so to do.

The Portal and Gallery MODs have been updated. Right now I am working through a few issues. Right now I can't seem to get the Gallery Block to show up on the Portal page and there are times when the avatar will not load when you go to the Portal page.

Please let me know if you are having problems with with the Portal or Gallery... I am guessing that there will be a bunch of issue I have not found yet since I am currently only working on getting the gallery block back.

I am still having issues with my Avatar sometimes now showing up on the Portal page. Most of the time it's there, but once and a while it does not show up. Anyone else having this problem?

I posted on the Portal MODs website asking for help on this... Seems really strange that it randomly does not show/load the avatar in the user menu block.

Still no response by the Portal MOD website yet... I have figured out one thing on the avatar loading problem. If the Avatar resides in the Avatar Gallery, it loads every single time. If the Avatar has been uploaded, it fails to load at times. No clue why.

I am still working on the avatar issue... I have also noticed that images that are uploaded and attached to posts have the same problem. At times the image will not load just like the avatar problem. It may be a server/host problem and not a phpBB problem, but I am not sure yet.

I believe that random missing avatars and image attachments problem has been solved. If you avatar does not work now, it's because the file was lost in the board conversion a few years ago... (George) :-)

Well..... It had been over a year since I upgraded the message board software. We were on 3.0.8 and the most current version is 3.0.11.

So I upgraded the software tonight.

Please let me know of any issues that you run in to with the upgrade. There is ALWAYS something goofy that gets messed up, so just let me know and I will try to fix the problem.
