Gophers baseball wins outright Big 10 championship with 4-3 victory over Ohio State on Saturday. Minnesota fell behind 3-0 to the Buckeyes' standout junior pitcher but rallied for the victory. The victory not only secured the outright title but also knocked Ohio State out of next week's Big 10 tournament, which is being played in the Buckeyes' park.

The Big 10 changed the baseball tournament to a "neutral site" last year when it moved it to Huntington Park in Columbus. Huntington is the home of a minor league baseball team and what looks to be a nice looking venue. The tournament was supposed to be there from 2009-2012 but the minor league team, the Columbus Clippers, messed up and scheduled a home game next week, forcing the Big 10 to relocate the tournament this year to Bill Davis Stadium at OSU. The tournament returns to Huntington next year and in 2012, assuming the Clippers don't go and schedule anything there during those times.

It was fun to see a Gophers team take charge and knock out a rival and claim a championship.

Great win yesterday for the Gophers and Anderson deserves plenty of accolades for this program's success.

Now if they could only secure funding for a new ballpark.

Good job Gophers. Good luck in the B10 tourney.

No. They'll need to win the Big 10 tournament since they're not receiving an at-large bid.

Big win. Gophers play the winner of the Iowa/Michigan game for the title. Now the Gophers only have to win once or the Pigeons/Ugley Helmets have to beat the Gophers twice for the BIG 10 Title.

Gophers now up 7-0 in the top of the 7th vs Iowa.

As an aside, as the #1 seed in the tourney and the only undefeated team, how are the Gophers the visiting team in this game? :confused2:

I believe in a situation like this, where there is the potential of two games between the teams, the team advancing from the winner's bracket is on the road the first game so they can be the home team should a deciding game take place. I'm not 100% on that though.

It's hard when they have to go out to places like California every year and play one of the top 4 teams in the nation, but you're right that eventually they should break through.

I doubt we'll see that breakthrough this year. At 30-28, the Gophers will be one of the "Poor Relations" automatic bids, as I believe their power ranking is around 100. Any matchups will be awful tough. They most likely will be in the region of one of the top 4-5 teams in the country.

It would be nice to at least win ONE game. Last year Ohio State made it to the final in the Tallahassee region; they were obliterated by Georgia 24-8 in the first game and by FSU 37-6 in the championship, but beat Marist AND Georgia in the losers bracket to get there.

The 16 regional sites are announced today at 2:30 and the field is selected tomorrow at 11:30, both on ESPN.

Downing San Diego (a #1 seed) a few years back was pretty cool, but that was a better Gopher team than this one. Even making it out of the region and to Super-Regionals would be a monumental upset. Big 10 baseball is the equivalent of CHA Hockey.

At least they avoided being put in a regional with one of the eight national seeds.

Maybe with Target Field here and a new Siebert Field on the horizon, we'll see the Gophers host a regional in the next five years. It was fun back in 2000 when they hosted the regional at Siebert and beat Wichita State in that first game. The Shockers came in with a bad attitude because they had to play here and were seeded lower than the Gophers so it was nice to see the Gophs take care of business in that.

Unfortunately, they lost the next two and were eliminated.

UConn is the only non-No. 1 seed to host a regional this year. Basically, the NCAA throws the northern schools a bone once in a while and awards a regional above the Mason-Dixon line.

Do you believe in miracles? Maybe if the Gophers pull it off, Long Beach State will buy Golden Gopher baseball jerseys to rub it in CS Fullerton's face.

I thought last years team had a better chance at a decent appearance in the tourney. It was even fun watching them make LSU sweat at parts of the game. prediction, Lose to Fullerton, beat San Diego and lose to Stanford. I am sure they will hate having to go to Orange County this weekend :)

Wonderful win! Seth Rosin pitched a terrific game. I kept getting nervous when the Gophers put guys in scoring position and couldn't increase the lead, but they made that three run first stand up.

It sounds obvious, but it's REALLY critical to beat New Mexico today; do that and you need one win to get to the Super Regional. Lose and you have to win three times in two days, which is a strain on your pitching.

I do believe the Gophers were the only #4 seed to win yesterday.

I'm very impressed with the demeanor of the team. They get down 3-0 and there was no sense of panic. Matyas at the end of the game was amazing. Let's win one more and make it to a super regional.

I am so glad that the play in center field (which should have been caught) didn't cost the Gophers. That was a lot of fun again last night! Puhl was clutch twice and Matyas was shut down to finish that game.

So obviously I hope the Gophers can close this thing out tonight and head to a super regional but what happens if the second game is needed? Play it tomorrow or what?

Yes, they will play tomorrow night. I think first pitch is around 10pm CST. Let's hope that doesn't happen and we take care of business tonight.

So it's a three-game series with CSF and the gophers are 1-0 in the series. Do I think we can pull it off? I honestly do.

If the Gophers are going to do it, they better do it tonight. CSF, just played and can be tired and short on pichers. Tomorrow could be trouble.

That homerun was smoked. At least 500 feet. Fullerton's bats are a lot more lively than Friday.

500 ft? Come on. That's a hell of a long way even with an aluminum bat.

This is what I was afraid of. CSF looked pissed earlier today and it is just carrying over to tonight's game. The Gophers didn't make mistakes in their first two games like they are right now. There is a lot of game left but this is a bad scenario for the Gophers. They are likely going to go through some pitching tonight (this guy right now has looked shaky almost from the get-go) so tomorrow could be another adventure if the pitching is used up. Lots of game left, though. Maybe they can find a way to put up some runs.

I only listened to them for an hour last night at a friend's house. We couldn't believe how stupid they were. Every other sentence we were correcting them (or so it seemed).

Gopher starter gave them no chance tonight, sweating profusely from the first pitch...CSF had a couple breaks early plus good pitching, and the Gophers were never really in it

Gonna be a tough one tonight. Fullerton has totally woken up offensively and is on a roll. The Gophs will need to get off to a good start this evening.

They need the starting pitching to be amzing tonight. That was the key to the first game and the starting pitching was good enough to keep them in the second game and ultimately helped them win. They also can't afford to get down early. We saw what happened last night when CSF gets hot. Hopefully they can do damage control if CSF gets up early and be able to put up some runs of their own.
