Dead at the scene was Rhonda Hellstern, 17, who was to be a senior at Turtle Lake High School. Last September, her 23-year-old brother, Tony Hellstern, was killed in a traffic accident.

BCS changes open Rose Bowl to Outsiders

"Under certain circumstances, they can play their way into the Rose Bowl, which hasn't been true in the past," Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said Monday at Big Ten media day. "That's additional access. Standards have been, I think, lightened to access the BCS."

The Big Ten and Pacific-10 champions are contractually bound to play in the Rose Bowl unless one of those teams qualifies for the national championship game.

Starting with the 2010 season and running through the 2013 season, the first time the Rose Bowl loses one of its conference champions and a team from one of the non-automatic qualifying leagues earns a BCS bid, the Rose Bowl must take that team.

What's the over/under on this 'tweek' taking the Gophers out of a would-be Rose Bowl appearance?

What I don't get:

Reports show that they asked the victim which woman he loved more, which one he wanted to grow old with, slapped him in the face and then said, "Can you handle that?"

The man was finally released after he started screaming, and police say the women fled with his cell phone, wallet and car.

Um...did he not start screaming as soon as he realized all four of them were there together in the room? Don't know about you, but I would've started screaming like a 12yo girl at a Hannah Montana concert as soon as I heard that second voice...

Wisconsin Gov orders state workers to take furlough...only for the state to need the DMV workers to work OT to make up for the backlog created by said furlough. Well played, Mr Governor.

Gov. Jim Doyle has ordered 16 unpaid furlough days over two years for nearly all state workers. The furloughs are intended to save money and help close a massive budget deficit, but the governor has also said the state would be careful not to let the lost days’ work translate into more overtime later.

Kimberly Liedl, a spokeswoman for Senate Minority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, said it "seemed illogical" to be requiring DMV workers to take a furlough day right before offering them time-and-a-half pay for overtime.

"I don’t see how you’re getting ahead," Liedl said.

Door County authorities are trying to figure out how a motorist ended up near the top of the east arm of the Maple-Oregon Bridge across Sturgeon Bay after the arms of the drawbridge were lifted to a 45-degree angle. Photographs of a car precariously perched in a downward position were circulating via e-mail Friday while authorities tried to find the woman who was driving the car. "This car was rising, similar to a ride at Great America," Sturgeon Bay police Capt. Arleigh Porter said. "Apparently the bridge tender noticed, lowered the bridge and after a short conversation she goes on her way."

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (AP) -- When it comes to spitting a cricket for distance, the central Wisconsin talent seems concentrated in one Marshfield family.

Brian Johnsrud spat a thawed cricket 22 feet, 8 inches at the Central Wisconsin State Fair on Saturday. Minutes later, his son Jared shot his cricket 10 feet, 5 inches to win the 9-to-11 age division.

Brian Johnsrud says the key is to pick the biggest cricket and put it upside down on your tongue. He also says you have to take the deep breath before putting the cricket in your mouth, so you don't swallow the critter.

Seven-year-old Daniel Word won the competition among 5- to 8-year-olds. After spitting his cricket 9 feet, 11 inches, he said it wasn't easy.

The event drew enough interest that organizers say they'll make it an annual affair.

Wisconsin man charged with driving while intoxicated

A Wisconsin man faces two gross misdemeanor charges for allegedly driving down Interstate 90 while drunk Thursday night.

Allen Ray Moody, 53, of Westby, Wisc., was charged Friday with second- and third-degree driving while intoxicated.

According to a criminal complaint, Moody drove east in the westbound lane for several miles between Elkton and Grand Meadow, near County Road 13.
