I wonder if that is similar to the look someone gets when somebody accepts free Wolves tickets.

I had 2 Wolves tickets sitting on the passenger seat of my car. Somebody broke the window and left 8 more tickets.

Walking around Mariucci I saw a dad showing his son and daughter the wall (opposite the benches) with the pictures of individual players and he was introducing them to guys like Neal Broten and explaining who they were and why they were on the wall.

As much as we like to complain and such....

Most, if not all, MN Gophers hockey games on TV every week, even tape delayed.

Can you imagine being a fan of any other MN school near the TC? Or for that matter, having talked to other fans across the nation, they beg and plead for games on tv, with little to show for it. For us? We feel shortchanged because "only" 75% of our games are on tv, and that's a bad year. 8)

Here, here. I have to work Friday and Saturday nights so I usually listen to the games on the radio. Since the station never comes in for the games the twitter updates on my phone are a lifesaver. Thank you to whoever it is that gives the great detailed updates.

The bravado is a bit lower this morning here, too...

The locker room at the gym is full of TVs tuned to Sportscenter. As I was getting ready to leave this morning, one of the guys near me mentioned that it must be nice for a team to have a QB like that (as opposed to the Cowboys).

I put on my Minnesota jacket and said, "why yes it is."

I would suggest that the majority of beer gets consumed after the usage of the saws and the air nailers. :)

Funny story about my son and beer. My son, Grant, has a history of RSV. When he was 2 months old it landed him in Blank Children's hospital in Des Moines for 5 days, he was in bad shape but that hospital is the best!! Anyway every November and February he comes down with a cold that puts him down pretty bad; he gets all phlemed up in his lungs and he has this problem of he gets coughing and upset and empties his stomach. Also during this time he is a terrible eater, if you would know my son that usually isn't a problem. Here is the funny thing, during one of those spells when he was 2 we were trying to get him to drink some pedialyte(YUCK). He wasn't having any of that! When I was at Hy-Vee picking some pedialyte up for him I walked down the beer aisle and saw a 12 pack of Golden Light bottles. Here is the thing, Grant had this obsession with picking up my beer bottles and taking drinks of beer, so here was my thought! I could buy a 12 pack of Golden Light bottles and some orange pedialyte, then I would drink a beer and then fill it with pedialyte for him. I did just that and he never drank pedialyte so fast in his life! Sorry about the long story but didn't want anyone to think that I was a stark raving drunk and was pushing my lifestyle on my children! :D

Here is a pic of my progress on the kids fort. Side note to this endeavor, no beer was drank until after I shot a nail into my finger. Evidently a nail hit another nail and it shot out the side of the wood into my finger...it took a little effort to release myself from said nail!! :censored: :chainsaw: :censored:

Getting free food at Plymouth Old Chicago due to the frequent visitor punch card/Beat The Manager Football Pick'em. :D

FYI, since they've been doing this for the last few years:

Each NFL Sunday = 1 visit:

2 visits: free pepperoni rolls
5 visits: free 3-topping calzone
10 visits: free 2-topping med pizza
15 visit: free 3-topping large pizza + order of wings

The FB Pick'em, if you beat the manager, it's a free appetizer.

If I wanted to, I wouldn't have to have bought anything yet this season. (I buy a couple beers, just to buy something)

Most of the deals were through AirTran Airways, but it seems that across the board a lot of airlines have flights knocked down close to $200 from what they were 2 weeks ago, and the promotions seem to all at least run today and tomorrow. I do most of my booking through Expedia, so I don't know if I got some special promotion or not.

Airfare

Postby Neely » Tue 12/08/09 12:58 pm

I'm looking for a little guidance on booking airfare. Our family is looking at a trip to Orlando for spring break (mid-march). Last week I saw airfares on Airtran for low $300s and now don't see anything, on any airline, for less than high $400s per person. My option to save on the hotel runs out in 12 days but am hesitant to book that if I don't think airfares will drop a little in the interim. I guess I can stomach the current airfare if it were a direct flight but most are not great times or involve mulitple stops. If anyone has any insight/thoughts on whether I'll see lower prices in January or later this month or if I missed my chance I'd appreciate your intel. Thanks.

Neely, it's a gamble, but I'd hold off and use Priceline if it were my own money. I've never gone wrong with it - and I've always saved actual money using the website. In fact, I'm sitting in a great suite in Houston right now that I booked this afternoon...and I am paying about 60% of list for it.

In fact, I'm sitting in a great suite in Houston right now that I booked this afternoon...and I am paying about 60% of list for it.

And I'll offer Expedia. Tried using Priceline for the 2008 Frozen Four (Denver) and only saw slightly higher prices (maybe $20) with more hoops to jump through. Priceline, I was trying to book for about 1/2 hour, whereas Expedia I was booked within 5 minutes.

That being said, I don't fly much at all (maybe once a year for the last 3-4 years), so take that into account also. I may have just had some bad luck.

But it's always a gamble with airline prices. Always.

My $0.02, the more tickets you need to buy the less likely you will find a better deal closer to the flight. They way airlines are cutting their capacity my gut tells me you may not find something much cheaper and personally I hate the unknown of not having a flight booked when I know I am going to fly so it doesn't bother me if the price ends up dropping. But to Florida in March.....methinks those fares will only go up until your get less than 2-3 weeks out. I'd also add that typically the non-stop flights will sell out more quickly and any last minute deals you find might involve at least one stop - not sure how old your kids are but something to consider.

Usually I cruise the various travel sites looking for fares then go directly to that airline to make the purchase. For whatever reason I don't trust the travel sites and have always found the same fare on whatever airline I am making the purchase. I guess this might not work for Priceline as they operate a little differently.

Like the rube said, it's always a gamble. :)
Change is good.

Applying for graduation :D

The countdown is on, 6 credits to go in the spring

Hopefully on to bigger and blue-er things (UKentucky is my #1 choice for grad school). Might need to change my username as the bluegrass state certainly isn't the state of hockey :)

I bit the bullet and booked the flight. So, my simple pleasure for the day...waking up in the morning thinking about being in Florida for spring break even though it's 3 months away. When I was a kid we only took a vacation once (in 6th grade). It was scheduled for April but we had it planned in August. So, my sister and I, in anticipation of our first trip on an airplane made a paper chain that included one link for every day until we left. Strung it all over the living room and then took one link off each day. Loved seeing that thing skrink knowing we were headed for sunny California when they were all gone.

Not to rain on your parade but don't think that applying for graduation qualifies as a "simple pleasure". :D On a serious note, congrats and keep the screen name; state of hockey is a mindset, rather than a place.

My wife and I did that same thing for our kids before we went to Florida a few years back...they absolutely loved pulling a paper chain off every day!

This weekend I expect to be out skating on the pond behind my house and soon to have a bunch of peewees over skating with my kid. The crack of the stick hitting the puck in the cold winter air. :D

Custom music selections in NHL 10.

I get kicked back to the menu after a loss and "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers starts playing. Epic.

Hey, can you still load up your own stuff?

I had one of the older NHL games for PC a few years ago and had it set to play tsome of my favorites - including the Rouser - after my team scored. It was extremely easy to customize the music in that older version. If the new one allows that, it might be worth it to pick it up (if it's available on Wii).

Yep. They just put it back in IIRC with NHL 10

Listening to Wally and Glen. Obviously I don't like it when I can't watch a game, but listening to these two guys on occasion is a treat. And btw, if you ever get the chance to sit next to Glen at a hockey game and BS with him, it is a highly recommended experience. The guy knows more puck than everyone on GPL combined.

Agreed. I got to take Glen out for lunch last year and interview him for a research project. He is just such a genuine guy who takes legitimate interest in seeing others succeed. Hearing some of his stories and takes on things is really a treat.
