Motorcycles

Postby Bladepuller » Wed 9/23/09 6:28 pm

Since Monday mornings are now optional I'm thinking very hard about buying a bike. I had Triumphs and a Norton back in the mid 70s; now I'm looking more for a "bagger".
A Victory Kingpin has caught my eye. Anyone have any input / experiance?
The big Triumph Rocket 3 seems like the epitome of a "road bike".
A Moto Guzzi Norge feels like a bike should feel to me. Likewise a BMW RT 1200. I love gravel roads and they feel like they would climb a mountain trail like a mule.
I will be going to Zylstra H-D Thur. They (H-D) are classics. Relax Sioux / Bucky Hater, I'll come in.
I guess I'm just wondering on a board where hockey is the emphiasis if anyone has had any experiance with Victory bikes.
Oh yes. I now have some major term life. Thus G. seems cool with it.
I HATE :censored: RED! I'm now developing a strong dislike to green also.
TO GOALIES!!! :drunk:

BTW Keep the helmets on for the NA & intros...You ain't that special.

The idea of a play car is interesting. I have a cousin who sometimes brings his Cobra kit car up to his cabn which is 2 doors down from mine. He says that tooling around in what appears to be a '67 Shelby Cobra keeps a police cruiser behind you. he thinks deputy dog is just hoping against hope you put the hammer down. BTW.. I had his up somewhere north of ()MPH...and still hadn't shifted into 4th...or 5th. No car. They take too much space.
No crotch rocket. I'm not a kid anymore. We did used to take our cafe racers out and race down East River Road to the Ford Plant many years ago.
Victory input people.

Blade,

I ride a Victory Jackpot. I can't imagine riding anything else. You won't find better quality, power, or looks on any Harley or other cruiser out there. I get positive comments every time I ride, it pisses my brother off....

Go with the Kingpin.

Also if you haven't come across it yet, there is a pretty good Victory forum:

Thanks K. That is good info.
I'd keep your brother off a bike  ...unless he has a big life ins. policy w/ you as the beneficiary.
Then... :D

There are hundreds of millions of people who will disagree with your opinion. Victory makes a fine motorcycle. The fact that it is made in America does make it a little endearing to me. Besides, a little competiotion is a good thing. It keeps #1 striving to stay #1.

Blade, if you do go with a Victory, make sure it is the bike you want to own the rest of your life. Pretend you've got one that is 2 or 3 years old and you want to trade it in. If you can find a dealer to take it in at all, it won't be at a very good price. Mies and Bristows are notorious for not taking bikes they sell back in on trade.

Blade, if you really like that BMW, check out the Buell Ulysses.

Zylstra H-D in Elk River treated me very well and frankly after looking at their bikes I think it will by a H-D. The fit and finish is just impecable. I think a Dyna, in one form or another, is in my future.

Blade,

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either bike/brand. I love my ride, so therefore it is the best, as yours will be the best to you when you pick it up. It doesn't matter what you ride, just that you ride.
Post up a photo when you pick it up. Here is a picture of mine, that way when a red Victory Jackpot goes blowing by ya you know who it was.... :D

Blade,

I have ridden bikes for years. I was looking at buy a Victory this year but I was unable to find one that was as comfortable as my current bike was. At the time I was riding a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. I owned two of those bikes, 1999 and 2003, and they were both very comfortable to ride. I rode that to the U.P. nine hours straight through and it was very comfortable to ride. When I bought the first one the guy said that "If you could get over the fact that it does not say HD on it, it is a very good bike." And he was right. But I never did get over the fact that is didn't say HD on it. So while I was working in Brainerd this spring I purchased a 2009 HD Heritage Classic. The bike is even more comfortable to ride than any of my other bikes and is so much fun to ride. The colors were not ones that I would have picked out of a catalog, but after seeing it in person it is a beautiful bike. And as far as the Victory goes, my neighbor is the manager for Polaris engine R & D group in Wyoming and he put it best. He said that when you buy a Victory, you bike a bike. When you buy a HD you are buying a lifestyle. That is so true ......

I picked up a used 2009 Dyna FXDF. That's a Fat Bob away from H-D. Black. It had 2300 miles on it and in a wet cold Oct I put on another 1300 miles. I love it. It is bigger and has more torque that the British bikes I had as a kid. It has kind of a retro look about it and I really like the front and rear tires being the same diameter, even though the rear is much wider. Dual disc on the front and luckily I have not had to grab all of it to date. I'm a little concerned about the handling, but to date the bike has more in it than I have nerve. I may add a True-Track and possibly a Super Brace to the forks in the future.
Nice machine & thanks to all who offered advice. I'll try to post some pics sometime.
Also Kudos to Zylstra H-D for their help before buying and after the service dept was very straight on what is a good way to go for more power. Thanks Mike & Kevin.
