Computer Video Card Help Needed

Hi All,

I'm looking for a new video card for my PC. I have an eMachines, running Windows XP SP2; it has a 160GB hard drive, with an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2 GHz) processor and 2GB RAM.

I'd like a card that has an HDMI out so I can hook it up to my Sony 50" HDTV. I don't really need/want a TV tuner card, just a good card that has HDMI output capability. I'd also like to keep it under $150. However, if a TV tuner card is better that's fine too.

If you can't wait, try General Nanosystems, located on University Ave near the U. I have had good luck getting a part in a pinch from there-- but pricewise, if you are willing to wait, you may find a cheaper part online.

I am not a fan of the big blue box, however.

We have a Benq brand overhead projector at work that we use in meetings and for training presentations. When I connect to it, I use a Lenovo ThinkPad that runs Vista. When I attempted to connect to it most recently, the on-screen display showed a deep yellow tint. Before the computer is connected to it, the Benq home screen shows the normal blue that it always has. If it's any help, I'm connecting to it using the normal multi-pin connectors...same as I used to pre-problem.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? I'm pretty sure it's not the lightbulb, since the pre-connection Benq screen doesn't look any different than it always has.

Do you have any more specific information about which specific eMachines it is? You've got to make sure your computer can support whatever kind of video card you get.

Like others have said, Newegg is the best way to go. If you want to buy from an actual store, then Microcenter in St Louis Park might be your best option.

Could be be the projector is fubar. All projectors are made up of red, blue, and green light. All three on at once make white light. What color is the on screen display supposed to be? Also, can you get true colors of red, blue, and green by themselves?

I haven't tried other computers yet, since there are only a couple of us who are issued laptops. Without trying that, I'm thinking the problem is somewhere in my computer (Vista ThinkPad). The "home" screen for the overhead projector is blue when it loads...just like it's supposed to be...it's only when I connect to my laptop that it's screwy.

I should have elaborated on where I was going with that. Trying another computer would let you know if it's just your computer or if it's in the projector. First check if there is any damage to the pins on the connector aren't damaged and that the port on your computer doesn't have any damage to it. If that doesn't work...

Try this, right click on the desktop of the computer. Click properties. If you have an nvidia or ati control panel open that. I'm not up on my ATI stuff so I'll hope you have nvidia. Click on the settings tab of the window that pops up from the desktop. Once there click advanced. Click on the tab that has the nvidia icon on it and see if you can open up the nvidia control panel. Once that's open check two places to see if you have an altered color scheme: 1. Desktop Color Settings under "Display". 2. Video and Television, adjust video color settings.

I've seen this once or twice before. usually it's fixed when you verify your settings in those two locations are default.

If that doesn't work and it's only on your computer, I'm not entirely sure what it could be. We had this problem on our tv at home as well. It was component and one of the three plugs had come a little loose. Screwed up the whole tv color scheme since you lose one of the component color channels.

Also, try another cable if you can. If that doesn't and you're using VGA (usually blue) try the DVI (usually white) or vice versa. That is, if you're computer and projector have both.
