Does anyone know if you are legally allowed to do that or do you have to try and sneak one in?

I would've thought that rehab might have helped Eddie realize that having his 16 year old on a world tour is Bad Idea Jeans.
Hopefully Val puts the kibosh on that and Michael Anthony takes his rightful place on David Lee Roth's right.
Anyone who's seen Diamond Dave solo understands the importance of Anthony to his style. Without him, he's like pop without the fizz.

Either you've seen DLR solo, or you are a traditionalist.![]()
I'm a Roth-era guy, but if they were hellbent on not paying Anthony, it'd be better to try it with Hagar who A. Has a more powerful, rich, commanding voice (both live and on recordings) and B. It's not the traditional Van Halen anyway and fans might be more forgiving.

I've never seen Dave with the band but it seems like this tour is more about sideshow then the actual show and I don't want to deal with that. Without Mike you lose a HUGE vocal dynamic that I don't think that Wolfie can attain (I haven't heard him sing but IMHO there are big shoes to fill there).
Seriously, if I'm in the car singing along to a VH tune, 9 out of 10 times I'll be humming along with Mike's harmonies and not the lead vocals. I'd miss that live. Now maybe Wolfgang has the pipes and blows Mike out of the water. The jury is still out on that.

Here's a trivia question that I don't know the answer to: has there been another band that has gone on three consecutive tours with three different lead singers? Gary Cherone in 1998, Sammy Hagar in 2004, and now David Lee Roth in 2007. Sheesh!
I'll go to the concert when (if?) they come here, if only for the "slow motion train wreck" feeling.

People attending a Rush concert are usually big fans (and old), so the crowd is there to enjoy the show and everyone is very nice to their concert neighbors. Combine that with the fact that people go to Red Rocks in a great mood, and it made for 9,400 people (plus three onstage) having a great night.

I couldn't either unless they use their stage as a pulpit...which some do. Just shut up and play the music!

For those who haven't seen Bruce, do it! He is by far the best live show around. Bruce and the E street band are very special in a live performance. They put others to shame with the energy and length of their shows.

I'd enter the aforementioned Pearl Jam in that contest (dunno if they'd win, but they'd definitely compete). Also, Metallica (pre-Load/Re-Load), and AC/DC.

It is personal choice / favorite music, but I have seen them all and nobody comes close to Bruce and his live shows, especially with the E Street behind him. He works the crowd with chatter and stories. His interaction with Clarence and Lil Steven are always fun. Lets not forget that he usually plays for 3 hours without a warm up band. He is the king of the live show and everyone else is shooting for second place.

Rehearsals. You can't expect a rehearsal to be on the same energy level as a show with 15,000 people in the arena. From what I read, these rehearsals were very loose. I guess DLR even spent time telling the crowd what would be happening during a "normal" show in between songs, etc.
I was commenting on the sound, guitar, and overall vocals. I wasn't expecting the energy of a loose rehearsal (even one with some people in the audience) show to be great.
And I have played guitar for over 20 years so I think I have enough knowledge to judge. Not exactly a novice musician here.

Hammy wrote: those old VH songs at 80% are still better than just about everything that comes out today at 100%.

Hammy wrote:To be fair, DLR set the bar high in terms of stage presence and energy. I don't know if anybody at his age could live up to what he used to do 25 years ago. There is no doubt he isn't going to be quite the showman he was back in the group's prime.
As far as his voice goes, it realistically probably won't be what it once was and I am OK with that. Mainly because I have yet to find see "older" singer who truly measures up to their prime (in terms of live performance). I have seen groups like the Stones, Aerosmith, etc. playing live in recent years and they all slip a bit. Usually because their vocal endurance isn't what it once was and the recovery time from one show to the next takes longer. Maybe they compensate by conserving energy on stage, etc.
I have seen comments from people who were actually there (not just judging on a few less than ideal sounding clips) and they were pretty positive about it. And the way I look at it, even if there is a bit of "slippage", those old VH songs at 80% are still better than just about everything that comes out today at 100%.
Some of those songs have had dust on them for too long.

Geddy Lee, Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Geoff Tate (Queensryche), are just a few of the many performers I've seen recently that have nailed songs from twenty-five years ago with aplomb. I'm not sure DLR took enough care of his voice to have anything left at 52...![]()
Paint it however you'd like, he needs to improve by quite a bit to get VH to that 80% marker.![]()
On the brightside, I thought Wolfie was fine, his backing vox were even decent.
