Guess marty wasn't a favorite of his manager...

gotta win in the playoffs

Quien es mas macho: Childress o Marty?

I'm not sure I'd take Marty right now...I'm willing to give Childress another season or two at best to prove himself.

I'd go with Marty. Put together 12-4, 9-7, and 14-2 seasons over the past three years. I know that's a simplified look at it, but marty has more experience and imho, is a pretty good coach.

I agree that you have to win in the playoffs, but still! 14-2?! If the vikes went 14-2 next season they'd sign the coach for a 10 year contract. :P :D

Chilly or Marty? Yo quiro Marty. Ahora!!

Both are boring. Both are methodical. But Marty is successfully methodical.

I think most were surprised that he wasn't fired after the season. The timing now is surprising. Huge issues between Marty and the GM. Marty is a fantastic regular season coach and has proven he can win anywhere: Cleveland, KC and San Diego. His playoff failures are what most will remember but this guy has had some terrific teams.

Interesting to see how SD does next year with a new:
1. Head Coach
2. O-Coordinator
3. D-Coordinator

It's all also happening in one offseason just 2 months before the draft starts.

From an old Bolts season ticket holder. No issues just hand the ball off to LT.
About the draft no problem either AJ never let Marty make roster decisions and neither will the new coach.

The new coach needs to be able to run a 3-4. The bolts d is not set up for a cover 2 or any other 4-3. So no Ron Rivera. God I hope they dont hire some retred like Norv Turner.

That Reid story is crazy. Talk about some problems at home. I wish that guy all the best.....doesn't sound like it will be the easiest situation to rectify.

I wonder how quickly San Diego will be able to fill this position, and if it will be done in haste rather than with any foresight.

Two weeks ago he was a candidate for head coaching jobs, now he's taken a lesser position as the LB coach for San Diego.

Does anyone else wonder why Ted Cottrell still has a coordinator job? He didnt do very well at Buffalo, then he came here and our defense did not improve (until Mike Tomlin showed up), and now he gets the Chargers job? I just dont get it.

All I know is that if he cant produce a winning defense with the Chargers' personnel he is a complete moron.

 Wow! Looks like he's not related to the original Nigerian Nightmare (Christian)...

"Q: It's been reported that you're related to former NFL standout Christian Okoye. Is that accurate?

Okoye: We're not really related. It's hard to explain it but this is the way my dad put it....back home you can lean over a fence and literally shake Christian Okoye's hand. I never got to meet him but my dad said when he was back home they were neighbors."

Why wouldn't they try and keep a veteran like johnson on to bring up Jackson like culpepper had with Gus Frerotte? I mean, I understand he's going to want cash but I figured like Frerotte, he would take a bit of a cut.

Moss...a Packer?

Trade talks surrounding Randy heating up again.

In Favre's mind, Moss is already a Packer. Radiers holding out for a first-rounder (Wes Walker fetched a 2nd and 7th round pick. Wes Walker?! )

I can't tell you how much this situation bugs me. The players association agreed to the franchise/transition tag in the CBA. Chicago is using it to their benefit and Briggs doesn't like so he is going to sit out.

I'm sure there have been times that the Bears have not liked a CBA rule, but had to abide by it and didn't put up a stink.

Briggs is doing the child-like equivalent of holding his breath until he gets his way.

Great move by the Raiders. They get rid of $20 million on their payroll, a cancer in Moss and get a QB so they take Calvin Johnson from Georgia Tech with the #1 pick in the draft.

what a waste of talent..a lot of people freaked out about the trade a few years ago...now all his trade worth is for a future career backup OB in Rodgers...

Troubled TE Stevens appears on way out of Seattle

Postby Dances With Gophers » Tue 3/20/07 8:28 pm

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2806300

"Interest sank last week when Stevens was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana in Scottsdale, Ariz. A Scottsdale police officer noticed Stevens driving erratically around 2:15 a.m., and Stevens reportedly told the officer he had "four of five margaritas" at Salty Seniorita, a downtown Scottsdale bar."

Sounds like he's prime Vikings material. (Zigy, I'm kidding. Go get Moss.)

Why?

Scott. Mitchell.

I have no problem waiting for TJ.

Seems like Houston gave up too much for Schaub

Carr would be a good option - you've got to wonder whether anyone will give up a 4th or 5th round pick and take on Carr's $5M salary. That would be pretty steep for a backup. They may be forced to release him in order to get out from under that salary in which case lots of teams will likely be interested.

The league's competition committee will propose a number of rule changes. Chief among them will be making the instant replay system permanent instead of subject to approval every few years.
"Replay has been an accepted part of our game for a number of years," said Atlanta general manager Rich McKay, co-chairman of the competition committee. "It has worked quite well. College football has gone to an instant replay system, so we feel now is the time to go on a permanent basis. At the same time, we'll propose that we convert the replay equipment in all our stadiums into high-definition."
Even if permanent replay isn't approved by the necessary 24 owners, the current system is in place through 2008.
Another proposal is to install an earpiece in the helmet of one defensive player to balance that of the quarterback.
"It's competitively fair, and we have the technology to do it," McKay said.
Other proposals include moving the overtime kickoff from the 30- to the 35-yard line to reduce the impact of the coin toss; a 5-yard penalty for spiking the ball in the field; making all penalties, except offensive holding, subject to replay; increasing game day rosters from 45 to 47; increasing the time to rub down kicking balls to make them less slick; and differentiating between minor (15 yards) and major pass interference penalties.
McKay said that during the first 20 years of overtime, the winner of the coin toss emerged victorious as often as did the loser but that since kickoffs were moved from the 35 to the 30 in 1994, 62 percent of coin toss winners have won the game.
"We believe we can make the coin toss less of a factor if we make the move [back] on the kickoff," McKay said.
The owners also will vote on whether teams will be able to conduct second head coaching interviews with Super Bowl assistants in the week after the conference championship games so those candidates wouldn't be negatively affected by their current teams' success.
The NFL is also expected to revise injury reports so that more detailed practice information is provided but official status such as questionable won't be announced until two days before each game.

Darn it all. Joe Theismann has been axed from the MNF booth.

Maybe if he talked about himself more he would still be with them. :D

Theisman out of MNF

Postby dlump5000 » Mon 3/26/07 12:02 pm

Heard, that the reason he is out is he didn't want to work with Cornheiser any more. So, ESPN said: "See ya." Personally, not a big fan and won't miss him.

Good. On the season opening Monday night double-header, the crew of Vermeil, Jaws, and Nessler were about 10 times better than the "A" team. Now if ESPN will just get rid of Kornheiser and replace him with Vermeil, I'd be very very happy.

Jones' off filed conduct has included 10 different incidents (interviews) with police and in Las Vegas during the NBA All Star weekend, the police have recommended felony and misdemeanor charges because of a shooting.

Henry has been arrested 4 times in the last 14 months

I think this is absolutely awesome. It's about time. Kudos to the NFL. The only true way to punish a professional athlete is to hit them hard in the pocketbook.

While I agree that it's great that the NFL is taking a stand against the turds, I'm a little concerned. I pointed out to my buddy that I doubt Pacman will be working on his Masters during his year off from work, if you get my drift. Neither of us believe the guy will return to the NFL, and that things will not end well for him.

Since the NFL cares so much about image and charity, my idea was to have Pacman and Chris Henry spend their down time and ambassadors to the United Way. Give them a fraction of their salary and have them show up and tell kids to behave themselves.

Of course, the Union would never go for that...

Pacman wasn't convicted of any crimes or charges. I'd be VERY pissed if I were him. Convicted felons playing in the league, and a guy in the spotlight at the same time who was convicted of charges only gets 8 games. :confused2:

Pacman is being punished because of media attention and allegations.

He may be a bad person, he may have a bad reputation, he may actually be guilty of the things being alleged. But the truth of the matter is he is as innocent as OJ, and that means he is being unfairly treated in my opinion. FLAME AWAY!
