So....Odell Thurman gets suspended for the rest of the season because he violated his league probation (4 game suspension) by getting nailed with a DWI?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2605039

And Koren Robinson is allowed to play for the Packers? The NFL is a complete joke.

Doesn't it have something to do with Robinson's trial not being played out yet?

I am sure they would hate to bench Picklehead. Who could possibly equal his 7 point average? Plus be labeled a racist.

I miss Moss. We could really use him. He is the receiver and has the speed we are missing. The problem would be that Johnson couldn't get the ball down field to him.

its really a double-edged sword with having moss on the team.

on one hand, we could really use someone who can produce a higher percentage of catches.

on the other, guys like moss have a huge price tag. paying big bucks to someone, in the day of the salary cap, can be a risky venture.

We missed Shawn Merriman (LB / DE) :x Derrik Johnson (LB), Rolle (CB), and Rogers (CB).

Rolle? Antrell Rolle? You would take him right now over Smoot and Winfield? He has been in trouble with the law a couple of times already if I recall correctly and he also got hurt last season.

Derrick Johnson had been ripped to shreds by the "experts" and the Vikings clearly didn't like something they saw/didn't see out of him. Shawne Merriman would have been too much of a reach for the #7 slot. If we wanted him we would have traded down a few spots I think (although I would have loved it). But Merriman also benefits greatly from the scheme they run over in SD, he would not fit in with a cover 2 as well. Carlos Rogers the guy out of Auburn? Again, would you take him over Smoot or Winfield?

Merriman more of a reach than Williamson??? Johnson did have a good season last year (better thant either WR did). Rolle had a better season than Smoot did last year didn't he (Steve Smith, Love Boat and injury)?

Saban says Harrington will start this week. Duante and Saban had a heated discussion in last Friday's practice. Duante is going to enter a rehab type rogram to continue work on his surgically repaired knee to help restore explosive movement to the leg.

Moss on the trading block ~ personally, I'd love to see him come back to Minny, but a) not sure if this offense is built to complement him (i.e., Brad could never chuck the ball deep enough); b) I'm sure there are just as many fans who hate him as much as there those who love him; c) Vikes prolly don't have enough $$$ in the kitty?

Denny and the Cards trying to do the Vikes a favor tonight. Cards lead the Bears late. 23 - 17.Cards led the game 20 -3. Bears have 6 turnovers (4 Grossman int's) but two defensive touchdowns to stay in the game. Leinart looks great.

Bears return a punt for a TD to take the lead. No offensive TD's and they now lead with 2:58.

Cardinals miss a 40 yard FG with 58 seconds left.

People seeing any similarities between Denny and Mason? Chokes, heartbreak losses, coaches who want all the credit but not the criticism!

As I'm watching the game, I'm thinking "If ANY team could blow this, it's one coached by Denny Green".

Once you string enough of these kinds of endings and collapses together, it's no longer "Bizarre" or "Flukey" or "Unreal"...it's a PATTERN.

Sound familiar Gopher football fans?

Not Denny Green's fault his offense fumbled the ball twice which led to two Bears touchdowns and not his fault his kicker has now missed two field that would have tied the game last week against the Chiefs and won the game this week against the Bears

but with a couple minutes left in the first half, Denny played it conservative and did not even make an attempt to get the ball in the endzone, resulting in a field goal..... big difference between 20-0 and 24-0...

Maybe. But funny how these things happen over and over again to same coaches/managers in sports. THAT'S my point. It's like Mason saying after a loss "Well, if this or that (insert: fumble, interception, missed FG, penalty, etc) hadn't happened, we'd have won and nobody would be talking about it". Yeah, but your team DIDN'T win; your team DID make a critical mistake. AGAIN.

I don't think it's a coincidence or fate or whatever that these same coaches are always associated with historic collapses and meltdowns, time after time.

Who is ultimately responsible then? It is such a repeated pattern it is not even funny. When you play not to lose, things like this happen on a regular basis. That is why Mason has such a hard time also.

Basically the Cardinals need an offensive line that can block and then they can put the game away - I blame that on the owner for not going out and getting a good offensive line and how can everyone blame Denny for Neil Rackers now missing two game deciding field goals??

So there is no responsibility on Denny? He isn't the boss of the team? He didn't pick his offensive line? He isn't in charge of play calling if he wants to be? Game management decisions? 2 and 1 and you run two plays and do not gain a yard. You are 1 - 3 and have a chance to beat the undefeated Bears. Did you not see a lot of the same things happen here? Simply a repeated pattern as far as i am concerned.

Favre angry that the NFL has turned its back on Robinson. Favre is not against the ban, but doesn't think it is right that Robinson is banned from the team.

I don't know what support the NFL gives these guys who are suspended but I would hope they just don't ignore them. That isn't going to help anybody overcome drugs/booze. I realize the team itself isn't supposed to have any contact with the player but the NFL should help these guys in some fashion. You don't just ban a player and turn your back on them completely.

I'm sure you could find the policy on nfl.com somewhere but I can tell you that I worked at a rather famous MN treatment center when we had an in-service presented by a clinician who consults with the NFL. I asked him some questions about the policy after his presentation over lunch and he gave me a rough run-down of the program.

If you don't outright retire after a violation or unless you were never rostered for like some minimum number of games, you MUST enter the NFL substance abuse program....even if you're a free agent. Upon admission, everyone is in stage one and REQUIRED to be evaluated. There are "regional teams" of professionals who will then determine whether or not a treatment plan needs to be developed. If one isn't in order....umm......like say you were just on some cruise were people were blowing coc or something but you, yourself, were just playing cards the whole time.....well then you're discharged and all is well. But if one is necessary you're referred to some approved treating clinician or program and must follow all requirements for the length of that "stage" which includes random observed testing if they so choose. The program itself is three stages....failure to comply bumps you from 1 to 2, 2 to 3...etc. If you successfully complete and are discharged....from stage 1 or 2....you're free to go. Once you're in stage three....you're in for life. SO...they give them a robust amount of support from sound professionals should the player decide to take advantage of it.

Regarding Robinson specifically, I think we can safely assume Koren was in stage 3 given his Hx. Also...the long suspension is the fine for a stage three violation.....1 and 2 were just like some # of games and some cash. We can also guess from his Hx, especially his past trt failures, he'll LIKELY be required to do inpatient, rather than outpatient trt. This is a bit of an assumption, but I think he's also probably a good candidate for extended aftercare as well following his primary treatment.

One thing I can't stand most sports interviews are how cliched the questions and answers are, but also how stupid they can be.

I listened to Anderson on KFAN today (btw, what's the deal with giving every intern/producer so much air time? Most of these guys suck) intervew Ben Leber and I thought I was going to puke listening to softball questions and canned answers. So I switched to 690 and I got to hear Rome interview Chester Taylor, and he included in every reply, "I meaaaaan....". I turned off the friggin radio.

/end rant

These guys should just hand out cards at the end of games with their answers on them. They are all the same...

Yeah....it's boring....but I have to say I would do the same thing. The problem is there's too much risk and almost no reward for to the althlete to be more forthcoming, genuine, revealing, etc. Evertything gets written about, listened to, televised, discussed to such extent and often blown out of context (see Barreiro) that you're just asking for trouble. So you do the Joe Mauer et al and just move on. Ultimately...people won't really be that pissed about what you do or don't say and judge you on soley your production (go figure....lol).

Parcells names Romo starter. TO says he has better chemistry with Romo. Jerry Jones says he is disappointed that the Cowboys are going with the back up.

I watched a little bit of the Giants and Cowboys and was impressed with Romo's arm and mobility. I know the kid has made some mistakes (2 TD's and 8 int's in his starts) but with the way Dallas' offensive line is right now, Bledsoe really isn't an option because the guy can't move. I like the move but time will tell.

i caught the end of the raiders-seahawks monday night football game.

seattle 16, oakland 0

i swear, with the exception of those two anomolous seasons where they were actually contending for something (2001, 2002), the raiders are the football team where NFL players go to die.

al davis stockpiles all the overpriced players over there, but they do nothing but fade into nothingness over there. i can't even say that about the vikings!

i can easily envision T.O. in a raiders uni!

by the way, one of their players was kicked out of the ballgame for kicking a seahawk in the groin!!

The MNF game had one thing that made the entire game worth watching, and that was a Tyler Brayton being a true Raider. Guy holds Jerramy Stevens's shoulders and gives him the old knee in the groin.

Try the years with Jay Schroeder QB (still not saying he was the best of QBs) and Marcus Allen/Bo Jackson in the backfield, Tim Brown, Willie Gault, Ronnie Lott, there is more to name. Yes I know its been a while but being a die hard Raider Fan, you just can't give up on your squad!! The cookie started to crumble when Davis let Art Shell go as head coach back in the mid 90's.

I remember when the Ray-dahs had three or four Heisman trophy winners on the team back in the late 80's/early 90's - Bo Jackson, Tim Brown, Marcus Allen...and I feel like I'm forgetting someone. Has an NHL team ever sported 2+ Hobey winners?

yeah, the dysfunctional teams i'm thinking of were from 1988-2000 and then after 2001.

Portis breaks right hand today:
Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis broke his right hand in the first half of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Continuing on the locked thread...Greg Coleman has become nausiating. The guy after the game in the lockerroom sounds like he is going to break down and cry when the Vikes lose. And If I hear one more guy use the term, "punch 'em in the mouth" I'm going to flip! :chainsaw:
