Huge kid, decent hands and a bit of a touch around the net. Skating is not real pretty at this point. I would guess people might want to see how he looks at the junior level before committing to him.

I think it's because some of the players listed have committed to UMD.

I was going to say it was due to the Hill Murray player on the list

I've had more than one hockey knowledgeable guy tell me that when they saw him play he was the best player on the ice...and it wasn't even close.

Is Kloos coming in next year or is he scheduled to play a year in the USHL. Letteri and Nanne not on the list for Mr. Hockey?

Unknown. although given the shortage of recruits next season, I would say it's likely he'll come in.

Only seniors are eligible.

Speaking of Kloos, I was just looking at his stats on Hockey Hub and he has 30 goals on 35 shots on goal! Other top scorers in the state are in the same ballpark, but are doing against much weaker competition.

Don't believe the individual shots-on-goal stats on Hockey Hub. They are tracked in only a handfull of games.

Wilcox left Fargo this weekend with 68 saves on 73 shots. Lost 3-1 (EN goal) Fri. Stole a 4-3 win last night. Fargo worked for everything they got. He looked the part of a starting goaltender next year.

Thought this was the best place for this question....looking for George or Iceburg most likely on this one....

I was at Braemar Saturday for the 2AA semis and was looking at some of the youth trophies and on the Edina Pee Wee A state champion (I'm guessing it was 2008), Lettieri was a member. He was originally an Edina kid?

Yes, he'll be playing for them. I get conflicting info on whether he'll play for Lincoln next season or up in the BCHL at Penticton.

My hope is he'll play in Lincoln. Don't get me wrong... I am not saying guys can't get anything out of the BCHL. But I just think they will be pushed harder to work on their overall game by playing in the USHL. You put that current Penticton team down in the USHL and they'd still be a good club. But not nearly as good as they showed up there. It's not a strong league depth-wise.

Apparently some bad news concerning Connor Reilly.....

The Vees Blog wrote:One quick thought about the Reilly brothers and something that might get overlooked. I can’t imagine, one, having a brother (stuck with a sister) but playing all together in a special season before one goes down with a season-ending injury. Plenty of people can say they’re close with their brothers or they know of a close-knit family. However, all three have an uncanny passion and competitiveness that makes them so successful. Seeing one stuck on the sidelines can be devastating and a big mental hurdle; how did Mike and Ryan respond? They only way they know how. Mike had a goal and an assist in the win last night and another assist tonight (1-2-3 in 2 games); Ryan put up one goal and three points tonight. Since Connor’s injury both have combined for two goals and six points. That’s how you play for one of your own.

Does anyone know if Gabe Guertler happens to be hurt? I haven't noticed him in the lineup for Fargo the past few weekends.

Ironically enough, suspended for a situation involving future teammate Jake Bischoff.

"AA" Third Place Game

Postby Iceburg » Sun 3/11/12 1:05 am

Howard Voigt wrote:Lakeville South in only their second tournament appearance is going back home with some hardware. The Cougars scored a goal in each of the first two periods against Moorhead and then hung on to edge the Spuds 2-1 in the Class AA Third Place game. Justin Kloos the Cougars leading scorer during the regular season got an assist on Patrick Lauderdale’s first period goal and then scored the game winner late in the second. Tyler Schumacher made the two goal lead standup making 20 saves. Kloos’ winning goal came when Moorhead goaltender Michael Bitzer was without his goalie stick. The stick had been knocked out of his grasp, and a teammate had handed him their stick. But as play exited the Moorhead defensive zone no one went to retrieve his goal stick. Lakeville took back puck possession quickly and re-entered the zone with Bitzer “handicapped”. Kloos scored against the under-equipped Bitzer and a 2-0 Cougar lead. Lakeville South finishes the season with a 22-9 record. Moorhead ends their year at 22-8.

Mr. Hockey is still an honor to be a finalist for (and win). But given the kids that go to USHL/NTDP/Shattuck, it's not quite on the level it used to be. Could you imagine next year if all the local kids would have stayed around to play HS? :shock:

What does everyone think regarding the statement of coming to MN next year?

Will he really be coming? I know he has the skills and will be an extremely good add for us, but next year? I thought he was still pretty young and we're in pretty good shape on D to have to bring in a younger guy like Mike. I'd imagine that after this year, there won't be much left for him in Penticton and the normal progression for him assuming that he doesn't stay with everyone departing that's from MN, would lead him to where? The USHL I'm hoping. Every time I watch highlights from the BCHL, I can't help but thinking that it seems "slow". There's a lot of slow feet and puck watching going on similar to a high school game. Heck even some MN high level high school teams seem better at times. I'm thinking that a year in the USHL would help as the pace would be higher for Mike and then lead to a better incoming year at the U the year after?

Thoughts?

Kind of think you missed how Joey LaLeggia went from the Vees the year before and became WCHA rookie of the year and first team WCHA this year - http://www.denverpioneers.com/ViewArtic ... EASON=2011

A couple. First, I disagree that the BCHL is "slow" or that it isn't the best place to develop (if that is a part of your thought process). While the USHL may well be a better league in some ways (which I tend to agree with), the BCHL certainly produces MANY players that step right in to the WCHA and MANY of the leagues best players over the past decade have honed their skills in the BCHL. It has to tell you something when tDon sent his own kid to play in the BCHL over the USHL.

Second, Mike Reilly is not a kid who is going to be hindered due to the numbers game at defense next year - he'll find his place in the lineup with his skill set. He has shown that he is highly talented and can provide an offensive punch from the back side at every level, and at a rate that is higher than many of the current successful/high scoring defensemen in the WCHA. My opinion is that I don't think he'll be held back for another year because of the numbers we have this year - he can potentially provide play better than several of the guys that are there now and we don't know about injuries, early defections, etc. They'll bring him in to compete for a lineup spot, and if he doesn't earn one every night, he'll have a year of conditioning and practicing under his belt at the WCHA level.

Reilly will be here next year and he deserves to be here next year. He's had a better season than Laleggia had the year before in that league and we see how Laleggia turned out. Not saying he'll do as well or better than that his freshman year but it is certainly a very positive sign he can handle the jump well. Very talented kid. We'll be glad to have him out there.

The plan was always to have him come in fall of 2012 with his brothers.

We will have 10 D men next year, if no one goes early. I don't know who they will be, but look for at least one to be moving up to forward.
National Champion's:::::::::::

WCHA Champion's:::::::::::::::

I'm wondering if Thompson would make the move up. He seems to be the least mobile and could theoretically get some playing time on the fourth line with most of the possibilities (Nick Larson, Miller, Sacchetti) moving on. Also, likely every shot that will be leaving will be right-handed, so that helps in that regard, as well.

How about Schmidt? I've heard he's played forward here before. :mrgreen:

Pretty sure it was said in jest. However, you could easily move a Dman to Fwd and move that player back to the point on the PP. It is happening now on the 1st PP unit. I could see this happening with Marshall next season if things shook out that way with numbers.

Yes, yes it was. :mrgreen: :lol:
Marshall could also work. For that matter, Reilly could also be in the running.

This is what I'd be looking out for. Not saying he'll do this but he certainly stands to see little ice time on that depth chart.

If you are going to move somebody up to forward, you start with Ben Marshall. He'd be the best fit in my mind because he has the skating ability, elusiveness, and skill to do well there. At one point, the NTDP was discussing Marshall as a forward possibility. He's played at the position when he was younger. To me, he'd be the best fit for that move IF they wanted to go that route
