Grant's son?
Another defenseman? Good grief, that's going to be a loaded d-corps!
The earliest he could come in would be 2013, so that leaves potentially:
Seniors (5)
Mark Alt, Justin Holl, Jake Parenteau, Nate Schmidt, Chris Student
Juniors (2)
Ben Marshall, Blake Thompson
Sophomores (2)
Mike Reilly, Brady Skjei
Freshmen (2)
Jake Bischoff, Johnny Brodzinski
Am I missing anyone?
Granted, some of those may not be here anymore, but I count eleven defensemen on that team.![]()
I'm assuming, he'd come in 2014, right? Could we see a situation where there are zero freshmen defensmen in 2013? Talk about a young d-corps we currently have.

Never thought of that. I didn't go to any games when I was 4 years old, so missed Nanne's years (I thought Nanne was early sixties, so how could you have seen him?) BOX?

Oh snap! Of course....

No. Marty was the kind of kid every roster needs. Kind of like that Serratore kid this season.

Ummm...he was way more Flynn than Serratore.

So, he had huge expectations attached to him and he didn't live up? I'm not remembering that being the case.
sunbone wrote:
Not at all talking about expectations, just the type of players they were. I don't think most people had any expectations for Marty honestly. Anyways, back to commited recruits from this decade.......

I've had to miss half of the games due solely to lack of television availability, but if Marshall is playing like the 'Wings could sign him in 2013, he must be playing out of his mind. I've said since he was drafted that in ten years, people will be looking at him as another seventh round steal like Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Maybe I'm shortchanging him in that regard.

Yeah the comparisons to Pavel Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg really aren't doing Ben Marshall any justice. Maybe more like Niklas Lidstrom or Bobby Orr...

I've never seen him play, but I've heard from those who have that he has speed like his old man, has a big heart and is thrilled to play at the U. That's a good start.

He is a nice fluid skater, but I don't think he's a big speed guy like Grant was. Nice, solid player. I'm sure it will get a rise out of some here, but I think I see some of a Chris Harrington type in body type and skating.

I heard he is more like David Fischer.

thanks. dave

I've seen him play several times in high school. Great speed, but honestly I don't see much else...hope he comes in a does something, but at this point I'm thinking penalty kill.

Maybe a good comparison...thinking AJ might be a bigger than Miskovich, though. Funny you should bring up Miskovich. I remember one time sitting with Glen Sonmor listening to him just gush over Miskovich shortly after he committed to the U. Just a good example of how even pure blooded hockey people can think one thing, only to have it turn out differently.

I really wish Mario would have went to Minnesota. I can understand the fact that Notre Dame is known for academics and it's his dads alma mater, but he has a future in hockey and is highly unlikely to be in school for four years. I never did see exactly why he decided against Minnesota, was it just because he didn't want to have tensions with his father or something? Anyone know an answer to this?
