The Spring Festival for Select 15s is this weekend at Wakota Arena in South St. Paul. You can see the district team rosters HERE. A couple of familiar names for Gopher fans are Rem Pitlick (District 3) and Jonah Bischoff (District 12). 102 players will move on to the Summer Camp June 9-14 in St. Cloud. From there about 20 will be selected for the "USA Hockey" national camp July 15-21 in Rochester, New York.

Rem is very good and a lot of fun to watch. He is, according to my son, "the smallest human being I've seen on a rink" which is a bit of a stretch but it will be interesting to see how much he grows over the next few years. I haven't seen a lot of these kids and the ones I've seen have only been a couple of times so I don't have a great feel for this group yet, but a couple that have caught my eye are Spring Lake Park's Nick Heid, a big strong defenseman with some skill, Tye Ausmus (EGF bantams) a smaller defenseman that can really take the puck and go and Jordan Klehr, a Shattuck defenseman from Lino Lakes with poise and a nice feel for the game.

The T-Birds selected defenseman Luke Osterman from Stillwater, Minnesota, with their second eighth round pick. Osterman is 6’2 and 170-pounds and played for the Stillwater Bantam team.

“Luke is a Minnesota defenseman with excellent potential,” said Farwell. “He is a good skater with high energy and the skill to provide offense from the back end.”

Yes, I spent a day up there. I've been reading that thread with some amusement. This looks to be a very deep group to me. Selections must have been very tough. The Dornbach kid is a nice little player and making him the focal point of the eternal "why didn't so and so get picked" rants seems a little silly.

As I've said to some on this board, had I been picking Shattuck Forward Tyler Bump, Shattuck defenseman Collin Saccoman and Mankato bantam Tyler Jutting make the Rochester group somewhere, but with the depth of this group if you had 50 people picking you probably get 50 different results.

One of my kid's buddies has played with Dorny for e couple of years so we've seen him quite a bit. He's quick and shifty but small and he's become less productive as the size and hitting have increased.
