One thing to remember is that the Select 17 National Festival is going on through Sunday so players there obviously won't won't be taking part but will likely play in the Elite League if they don't play juniors. Select 15 nationals start next week, so it's possible that a couple of players there might wind up on an Elite League team.

For those that might be curious, Shattuck started their league games today. I have their roster listed with the rosters above. No newcomers to the program on this year's Prep team.

The field for the Elite League's end of the year Bauer National Invitational Tournament has been announced. The tournament will be held November 6-8 at New Hope Ice Arena. As usual the top players from the six Minnesota teams in the league will be placed on two teams, Minnesota Red (outstate) and Minnesota White (metro). Other yearly participents are the Wisconsin team from the Elite League, Shattuck and a team picked from the MDHL (Michigan's version of the Elite League). The Dallas Jr. Stars midget team will be back as they have been several times. New to the tournament will be the Manitoba Prep Selects and Culver Academy. Culver is an Indiana prep school that has long had a hockey program that has turned out many D-1 players. Culver is similar to Shattuck in that they bring in players from all over.

Does anyone know if Ben Marshall is hurt? Looks like he played 14 games and only has 6 points.

Press release regarding league playoffs

Postby Iceburg » Mon 10/26/09 1:20 pm

Elite League Playoffs This Weekend!
10/26/09
By Elite League Media Services

Play This Weekend Will Round Out NIT Rosters
The 2009 Upper Midwest High School Hockey Elite League will hold the league playoffs this weekend, Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at New Hope Ice Arena. The quarterfinal pairings have been set, seeding in parentheses:

Southeast (1) vs. Omaha Jr. Lancers (8) @ 5:15pm - NH-North

Southwest (2) vs. Wisconsin (7) @ 5:30pm - NH South

Great Plains (4) vs. Northeast (5) @ 7:45pm NH-North

Northwest (3) vs. North (6) @ 8:00pm NH-South

Shattuck does not participate in the league playoffs, so a midget team is invited in to fill out the bracket. This year is the Junior Lancers who have not been here previously.

EDIT: The Omaha team that actually played in the tournament was the Omaha AAA U-18 team. (ROSTER)

He did get hurt and had a diagnostic exam done a little while back. Pretty sure the results came back OK and it was not anything major.

Marshall was dinged up weeks ago and hasn't been playing full time. Sounds like Bjugstad will be playing for Team USA instead of this.

One of the more interesting players to watch if you go to the NIT tournament this weekend will be Seth Jones of the Dallas Jr. Stars midget team. This is the son of former NBA player Popeye Jones who is very highly regarded as a hockey player. He's only a '94, so it will be interesting to see how effective he is in this level of competition. Here's a couple of older articles for some background on the kid.

"Will Seth Jones ever skate for the Everett Silvertips?"
"Popeye's kids love hockey"

Wow. After the two Minnesota teams played, I told someone it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say Meyers had 50 saves today. Turns out I was right since he had 55.

So who knows what happened that 2 of the coaches got misconduct penalties? Was it due to the amout of calls in the 2nd period? This was in the MN - Michigan game.

I was there, but the sound system at New Hope (north rink) isn't too good, so I didn't know until I got home and read the boxscore that coaches had been penalized. The game got chippy and the coaches were both barking quite a bit over penaltiy calls, so I'm not surprised. Fun game though.

Yeah, I didn't realize they got penalized either, but I went over to the other rink rather than wait around for them to sort out all the penalties after the fight with :05 left in the period.

Also, I didn't stick around, but did they go to running time in the championship game?
