Is the aforementioned recruit playing the the elite league??

Warning is playing for Cedar Rapids of the USHL.

I'm guessing "thedude" was referring to the uncommitted '94 player which would narrow things down a bit since, I believe, there are only two '94s playing in the league this year - Apple Valley's A.J. Michealson and Grand Forks Red River's Luke Johnson

Good call. I misinterpreted that. My apologies thedude.

Interesting article. Thanks for posting Ice.

Could G$ already be adding value on the recruiting trail? I don't have any inside info--though Roman seemed to imply that Potulny's good relationship with Warning on the Select 17 team was...helpful in the U landing him.

ARTICLE on USA prospects for next spring's NHL draft. A lot of names, but not much breakdown of their games.

Okay..I googled this Luke Johnson.

Kind of jumping the gun here, He is on the varsity team, but he's in 8TH GRADE.

Is he your brother or something?... :D

Not a 100% but for some reason I want to say this is Steve Johnson's (former UND player and current Fargo Force coach) son. If that is the case I think it would be a tough get for the gophers but on the flip side it might make more sense for an early offer.

no not my brother but I have watched him play in the elite league a few times and he can play. great passing ability also the only time I saw him playing on the top line he put the puck in the net every chance he got.

Nice night for some future Gophers in the USHL, Omaha played Team USA.
Erik Haula scored once and Seth Ambroz assisted on the goal. Travis Boyd had a goal and an assist. Can't wait for Ambroz and Haula to get here. This program could sure use some scorers with grit. Ambroz is big and backs down from no one. Haula has a bit of Danny Irmen in him.

I'd guess it might revolve around his lack of NHL buzz and the fact that Des Moines is terrible. I agree though - I am really looking forward to seeing Walters in maroon and gold.

Walters needs to pick up his game in some fashion. Most of what I hear through the hockey grapevine is he might be stagnating a bit developmentally.

On the plus side, I had a bit of that about Nate Schmidt too last year but he has picked it up and is playing better. Maybe he needed the push of jumping up a level to get things kickstarted in the right direction. He still needs to clean up some of the defensive miscues but he has all the ability to be a very good overall d-man in college.

Anyone have any inside info on this kid? Four year or early departure leanings? Stand up, butterfly, hybrid? That kind of stuff.

He's around 5'11"/160. An athletic kid, SSP's football quarterback. He's had some success at national Select camps. One bit of trivia for Zwak - he is Alex Stalock's cousin.

Most likely a year in the USHL and come in after Kangas is done. At his age this season would be the final year he would be eligible for the USA program.

Let's hope the skill stalock had is genetic. I also like the fact that he's going to play another year away from the gophers for another year. Experience is never a bad thing.

When I said this I had it in my head that Adam was a senior this year. After thinking things over a bit I remembered he is, in fact, only a junior. That makes his path next year not quite as clear cut.

What are the stats on this kid? Is he the top goalie to be coming out of his class? I guess if he's coming out of the Stalock gene pool then he must have a horse shoe hidden up his ass then.

Ice, as I am sure you have seen both play... How would you stack Wilcox against BSM's Meyer/s? I really liked what I saw of him as a sophomore and assuming he has developed his skills would of thought he would be at the top of the list?

I've heard that Bjugstad is accelerating his HS to play for the Gophers next year. Does anyone know if this is still the case? I would think that tDon might tell Bjugstad to play juniors a couple more years given the trend of true freshmen and should-be HS seniors having a tough time adjusting to the pace of the WCHA, especially in their first year.

I also have to believe that part of his motivation is getting to wear #27 next year since Schack is a Sr this year... :)

I don't think you're going to see him held back. He's likely a first round pick and unlikely to play four years of college hockey.

I would think that tDon might tell Bjugstad to play juniors a couple more years given the trend of true freshmen and should-be HS seniors having a tough time adjusting to the pace of the WCHA, especially in their first year.

According to an article posted earlier in this thread, the plan is for Bjugstad to come in next year. I think he is a guy who can make the transition. For starters, he already has great size (6'4, 190) and he turns 18 next summer so he won't exactly be a young freshmen, plus he is a forward and that is an easier transition. Ideally he would play a year in the USHL, but given that his draft year is coming up, I am OK with him accelerating.

Article from the Strib today about signing day. No names we didn't already know. Confirms that Bjugstad will likely be signing in spring so he can play next season.

I really like Bjugstad, but I sure wish he would play a year in the USHL. I would rather see Ambroz next year because he's been playing against older kids for two years and playing well. Bjugstad hasn't even dominated kids his own age yet. He didn't do real well for the US team, while Ambroz was a major factor for the U17 team that won gold. I really hope Bjugstad proves me wrong.
