True. Butttt.... he had a huge smirk the whole night. Tonight, we need to wipe that smirk off his face. :chainsaw:

He kept winking at the girls in the front row too... maybe he would have gotten the shutout had his head been in the game haha

This reminds me of a prank fans at one school pulled on their basketball rival. One of them pretended to be a potential girlfriend online and exchanged messages with one of their rival's star players, then at the next game between the two schools, the entire student section started reciting the player's phone number.

Props to the students this weekend! The best form I have seen them in, hope they keep it up for UAA next weekend.

On Friday my buddy and I were watching the band march and a couple older BADger fans were near us watching with big grins as the band, then the students following sieved them on the way past. After the group passed, one BADger said to the other "that was awesome!"

Good work!

Props to the student section. Loud & Proud. I just wish they would not do the F the Badgers chant. We are better than that.

Agree... Props to the students. But the "F the Badgers" is trailor park. We are better, we are not North Dakota or even Minnesota State.
It's great to see the student section getting lively again. Started watching and going to Gopher Hockey in 1996 and the student section was fun. A year or two after the back to back National Championships the student section lost it's luster. It was the cool place to be and hang out, but not cheer. Last year and this year, the student section is coming alive again. Keep it up students, the players and even us older fans feed off it.

Not a huge fan of the F the Badgers chant, but it just rolls off the tongue so nicely :D

If I had to guess, prepare to be let down for the UAA series. Its the start of spring break, so I wouldn't be shocked if it was a little lighter in terms of fans.

The difference in the SS this year compared to my freshman and sophomore years is night and day!

It's been such a fun year, and I can't wait for next Saturday to do the battle hymn one more time this year :good2:

I agree! The student section was rockin this weekend but the " :censored: the badgers" chant isn't really necessary! From what I understand, the spirit initiative's goal is trying to get the SS to not use cheers like that (hence the "now you gotta sit versus "you worthless piece of s**t"). I think keeping up with tradition is important but when there are little kids listening and looking up to the students, its important to keep it clean, IMO.

Lets hope the SS in loud and proud next weekend as well but as someone mentioned, it may not be with Spring Break. But the fans and students that are there are not going to forget what UAA did to us last year!

Where do you sit in the SS?

This year we've usually been in the middle rows. Row 9-14ish.

Last night we were about three rows down from the band near the aisle, closer to the net.

edit: for point of reference, I was two rows up and directly behind the guy with the "popcorn + skunk = bucky" sign. He was holding it up and partially blocking my view when the players brought the Cup over. I don't get why he was holding it up the whole time when the players were over by us :anger:

Love to see the SS getting back into it and getting it done. It's been sorely missed. That being said, please drop the JV/Sue, " :censored: the <team name>" chants. They diminish the whole situation.

I sure did. Ha. Good times. It made our victory on Sat that much sweeter. :)

and on a SS note, the "____ the Badgers" chants are usually started by a couple guys who, really, start lots of other really good chants. I don't like that one either, but those guys tend to get chants going a lot and I think that is awesome. I just wish they would stick to some of the other, cleaner, ones we have. But its usually the same group that does it.

And I wish the U would tell the SS that they have free tickets to the games this weekend (with season SS ticket). I know they mentioned it in a comment on FB but I have literally told about 20 people they can get in this weekend who had no idea. If there is poor attendance, its because the students don't know.

Yeah, I know pretty much everyone I usually sit with had no idea we would be able to get into the game. Is it Friday tickets Friday, Saturday tickets Saturday, and Friday tickets Sunday (hopefully not needed). I assume Friday would get the extra game since they had the BC exhibition while Sat. got Notre Dame, although Friday ticketers have already gotten gypped with the teams play those nights :chainsaw: so what's one more negative. Is that the correct ticket layout?

As for this weekend, I thought Friday's opening goalie chant was the best of the year for our group, unfortunately the enthusiasm could only take so much before it just died.

F get F. S gets S. Sunday, both have to pay for.

Yeah, I have both night tickets and we just couldn't keep the cheers alive on Friday. Sat was much much much better.

Students who have Friday night tickets get into the Friday game. Saturday night crew gets into the Saturday game. No students have tickets to the Sunday game, but both groups have the opportunity to buy tix if it goes to a 3rd game.

Yeah we're above that. Still though, when the Badgers and more notable, Mike Eaves, are holding up the game for five minutes by incessantly bitching, it's almost justifiable at that point. I remember Bo Ryan crying about a call a year or so ago and getting a technical for it and the student section started the same chant. Most people on here were ok with it.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

Yeah, that was DX, me, Joe U and Drew (not sure if you're on here, Drew). I'm convinced there is a potential Simpsons reference in every single situation.

Operaghost, even UMD plays R&R2. I blame Joel Maturi. I'd recommend sending e-mails to our new AD when he gets in. Hopefully he's not such a limpwristed PC people-pleasin' pansyass. This, imho, was Joel's biggest flaw.

My friend and I are having a discussion over the "Where's my burrito?" chant.

Where did it come from? When do you use it?

From being avid Simpsons watcher I thought maybe it had to do with that episode where homer asks "Where's my burrito?" and then I thought maybe it had something to do with Mankato and their "ole" chant. Is it 'Law School' that they are saying? Ive decided I have no clue and I have come here for help.

The Simpsons quote is most likely the origin of it. The band's trombone section uses it as their cadence lyrics to the second half of Chicken Scratch, and it got transferred to the student section somehow (probably through the Superfans via Nordquist).

The rest of the lyric is "get to llama school, ole!" which appears to be a reference to The Sifl and Olly Show:

Took me a solid year and a half to figure out it was "llama school"

Dumb video, but the reason behind it is that students can reserve their season hockey tickets for 2012-2013 on May 1.

Actually we can do it NOW! But if you buy them by May 1st you get entered into a drawing to win prizes. They did it with football tickets this past year and I won a $50 gift certificate to Goldy's Locker Room! Not bad to get half the value back right away!

I tried to get the Saturday night ticket again but there aren't any delivery methods that can be selected. It won't continue with my order. They should make sure things work before putting them up for sale.

There are some more videos coming. They were making 2-3 total. If you look closely, you will see a familiar extra.

You may have to make a new account. I remember last year when everyone tried to buy Kid Cudi tickets for homecoming, if you had bought tickets before there was some glitch that prevented you from buying tickets again unless you made a new account. Made an already frustrating night even more so. :chainsaw: Could be that again...

I ran into that issue a couple of years ago. I don't remember what exactly I did, but I think the shipping methods showed up when I tried a different browser.

Anybody have any insight on this student ticket situation....Say somebody is graduating in May, but purchases student season tickets for 2012/13 prior to graduating. Would this work?

Unless they've changed their verification process in the last year, no. What they do is check your registration for Fall Semester to see what your enrollment status and number of credits your taking. They also do this check in the Fall when you pick up the tickets, so there's no way to register for the tickets and then drop all the classes without taking a huge hit on class cancellation fees.

Yeah i figured they would have something setup to try to discourage this type of thing from happening. Hopefully I can figure something out because it is going to be tough not going to all the games next season!!

I don't know about that. I still use my UCard I got from my freshman orientation 11 years ago and people still think I look like its photo even though I've gained 60 lbs since then. What's even better is that I still look like my old passport and credit card photos and they are even older pictures.

did that for quite a few years...until they started to require a fee statement be shown at the same time....at some point they will run a scanner on the students to stop the current UCard "abuse".

My little cousin is going to be a freshman at the U next year. I'm thinking I will have her (or some of her friends) buy me and a couple people student tickets after we graduate

Might need to get a new UCard right before I graduate, to update the picture from freshman year

did that for quite a few years...until they started to require a fee statement be shown at the same time....at some point they will run a scanner on the students to stop the current UCard "abuse".

W

I think it's trending that way. Even the change in my 3 seasons of going with a student ticket has been noticeable. 09-10 season you didn't even need a UCard to get in (they just didn't care). Now they demand to see one at the door and they check tickets at the top of the SS.

The guys at the top of the SS are just for the sold out games though. From what I understand, social engineering is pretty easy with these guys since they themselves don't seem to care too much.

If Wisconsin-Madison is the state's most prestigious university and the state itself is known as The Dairy State, does that mean UW is Bovine University?

Those guys were pretty easy to avoid if you just sneak over a section and cut across.

Did I dream this, or did someone on GPL or in real life tell me that student tickets are already on sale for next year?

After settling down a little bit about not getting Saturday night tickets, my roommate and I realized that we're lucky enough to have season tickets at all. So we created one of the 'First World Problems' meme for ourselves

Hopefully the team doesn't have as many issues on Friday nights this year.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.
