8:35 -- Tony Bennett reports that Minnesota and Portland are swapping draft picks -- Roy to Portland, Foye to Minnesota. That's it? That's the trade? None of the ESPN guys seem remotely fazed. I knew Kevin McHale couldn't just pick the best guy in the draft without somehow screwing it up. I would have bet my Ndudi Ebi rookie cards on it.

here is a quote from ESPN that explains my point a little better than I could have.

A pending lawsuit claims Minnesota Timberwolves center Eddie Griffin was drunk, watching porn and masterbating when he drove his luxury SUV into a parked vehicle last March in Minneapolis. . . . found this on wcco.com. . . my question is last March??? its June now and this is just being brought up??? seems kinda wierd to me

What is it with NBA 'bangers having to play F'n video games and watch TV when they drive their F'n cars.

Can we please mature past the age of 10.......

Its because the police just brought Eddie Griffin home and did not file any charges (bribe anyone?). He was videotaped for 24 minutes on the store's security camera telling the store owner he would buy any car the owner wanted to replace it as long as he didn't call the police because he can't get arrested...

Like it cares or anything, looks like the Wolves are rumored to acquiring the rights of Kenyon Martin of the Nuggets. Its posted in the insider or ESPN.

This may be a good time for our resident law expert skiumah. However, sounds to me like the lawyer for the guy who got hit is a complete TOOL. He could have easily won a suit with the video evidence and thus claimed a nice settlement. Instead, they decided to sue on grounds that sound impossible to prove (watching porno and jerking off). From what I gather they have opened up their case from a car repair plus compensatory and punative damages into a possible libel verdict against themselves. This actually could lead to Eddie making cash off the incident unless ol boy can actually prove the porno charge.

Martin would be a huge acquisition. He would shore up the front line and take tons of pressure off KG.

Wolves got their No. 1 free agent priority today in Toronto point guard Mike James. He's the three point guy we needed. This pretty much ends the short tenure of Marcus Banks.

With the move, the Wolves really have no money left, having used the 5 million dollar mid-level exemption on James.

Good signing, but...

1: James
2: Foye
3: Ricky Davis
4: KG
5: The Black Hole that is Minnesota's Center position

I'd weep if I cared about bouncyball.

That would be an interesting trade. Tough to imagine how the Wolves (or any other NBA team) could handle Garnett AND Iverson's contracts. Would the rest of the team be volunteers? :P :P

It would certainly be interesting to see how they'd pull it off with bums like Jaric and Hudson eating up way too much cap space on the current roster.

Good point. McHale would be the laughing stock of NBA GMs if Isiah Thomas wasn't around. I swear they must have a competition to see who can screw his team over worse. I will never understand why he traded Candy Man (last year of his contract) for Blount (four more years of approximately $7 million per). Even though Ricky Davis' salary is almost half of Wally's... McHale still took on money in that trade. What a stupid, stupid man.

Seriously, I'd feel a lot better with a lineup of:

James
Foye
Szczerbiak
KG
???

than:

James
Foye
Davis
KG
Blount

Terrible. Just terrible. I'm happy I'm not a huge basketball fan.

Rumors are Marko Jaric and Trenton Hassell to Denver Nuggets for F/C Kenyon Martin. McHale said to be on verge of making this trade, or another, for a proven center that would be a big step up from Blount.

Carmelo hurt in the USA's warm up win over Brazil. Team USA is preparing for the up coming world championships. Carmelo suffered a hyper extended knee that doesn't appear to be a serious injury.

It never really is untill it leads to jumpers knee or torn miniscuss. It happened to me, and it's not much fun if it doesn't heal right. He'll be good for the coming season for sure, but 4-5 years down the road his knee might really start bothering him.

Just got home from the game. Wolves didn't play that well, but fortunately for them the Kings melted down in the 4th quarter. A lot of odd calls both ways, and Bibby got kicked out of the game with 3 minutes left and the Kings only trailing by 6. Absolutely one of the dumbest things I've ever seen a veteran player like Bibby do when the game's outcome was still up in the air. If I was the Kings coach I might have got myself thrown out at that point just so I could go back in the locker room and scream at Bibby.

How did James play? His numbers looked pretty bad. I watched about ten minutes of the second quarter and saw Hudson throw up about 20 shots. KG looked good.

James didn't play as bad as his numbers looked. He just couldn't get any shots to fall. What ticks me off, however, is that Foye only got 6 minutes. I know it's the first game of the season, but we should have played McCants more last season, and I don't want to see Casey waste another major talent on this team. We can't afford to let Foye sit on the bench. This kid is a player, and he needs to be on the floor.

James barely played the 2nd half. We were struggling to score, and Hudson was providing a little spark there, especially in the 4h quarter. But with all the talk of James as our new PG I was stunned that he only played 24 minutes. I was suprised that Foye barely played also. I would expect that to change. We got beat up on the boards and beat to too many loose balls. We did tighten up defensively the 4th quarter and hit some key shots, enough to win, anyway.

If I was the Kings coach, I would sober up. The NBA is so bad right now. I used to go to a lot of games, but I just think the game has changed so much and its just not fun to watch like it used to be. I can't pinpoint why I feel like this. Maybe it's because the excitement isn't there, or because the basketball isn't good, but I miss the guys I grew up watching. Magic, Jordan, Wilkins, Pippen, Hakeem, Ewing, Craig Ehlo.

In this post, I will not mention anything about the sport of basketball.

I flipped on the TV last night and the Wolves play-by-play guys were talking about rookie Randy Foye. Supposedly, his organs are reversed in his body, so his heart is on his right side. Has anybody heard of this? I was like, what?

I would think a shake up of the roster would come first. Obviously KG's name has been thrown around, but personally, the guy that has to go is Ricky Davis. This is a guy we've coveted for years and he has shown us very little. He's the big disappointment.

I'd like to see more minutes for Foye and McCants when he comes back. This team is still in my mind rebuilding. They have the talent, but only for a 7 or 8 seed.

I'm not a huge pumpkin ball fan but I do watch the TPups when nothing else is on and I do make my fair share of games. I have been saying this for the last couple seasons that for KG's sake we should trade him. Pretty good article stating just that...

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/st ... d=tab2pos1

One could make an argument that if KG left the attendance would be little to nothing, but the couple games I went to last year(including the Heat and Cavs) no one was there, no where near a sellout. KG deserves better. I feel bad for the guy!

from what ive heard he is too nice of a guy to ask to be traded....if he is traded it will be by the teams choice and i dont see them doing that. and abot the attendance....i dont think anything less than a championship will fill all those seats!!

As a huge (former) Wolves fan, seeing Stephon come to town always makes me think what might have been. Steph had the people here to keep him disciplined (if he had only realized it). What a duo we could have had. Filling in the pieces would have been easy. Find that rebounder to help KG and the third option and this team has a nice long run in the playoffs and maybe to the title.

From ESPN:
Kevin Garnett and Allen Iverson --the possibility of that combination lifted Garnett's spirits just minutes after a big victory over Utah.

"Bring it on, I love 'The Answer," Garnett said Friday night. "We welcome A.I. with open arms. Where's Kevin McHale?"

Garnett had a season-high 31 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves over the league-leading Jazz 110-103.

McHale, vice president of basketball operations, would not comment on rumors that Iverson would end up in Minnesota. But his star player went so far as to look into a local television camera and make a plea to Iverson.

"Come on, boy," Garnett said. "I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want to play with him."

I hope the Wolves can do this deal. We could have 4 to 5 years of Iverson and Garnett at the top of their games. The future is now!

I saw this. I am not believing it, especially with the empty seats at Target Center. We have to match salaries!

If the Wolves got Iverson, I might actually pay attention to them again. I have watched about two minutes of their games so far this year. However, I have no faith in the front office to get it done.

Okay! Well you should check this link out and figure out a good deal that the Sixers would accept!

BTW, I'd love to see it happen, but you do not see an owner come out and say no like that. I have a feeling that Taylor and the Wolves already looked into it before this latest outbreak of news (possibly this summer) and that's why they already know it can't get done.

I totally agree with you. The deal would have to include Foye but KG and AI (the alphabet gang!!) would be a lot of fun to watch.

Wow, is this team ever ran by a bunch of clowns or what?

http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincitie ... 208531.htm

As I said, I would welcome Iverson. I am weary about giving up on Foye, but to get some you got to give some I guess.

Source: Sixers looking to pull off trade by Tuesday

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2693389

The source indicated the Minnesota Timberwolves were not seriously in the running, and the attention being paid to Denver and Boston was being overblown.

....

Amid speculation that [Ricky] Davis, or Mike James, and rookie Randy Foye might be the centerpieces of a deal that would send Iverson to Minnesota, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor on Friday night told the St. Paul Pioneer-Press: "There's no trade. It isn't that I don't like him, just money-wise it wouldn't work out."

And although Taylor backed off those comments somewhat on Saturday, ESPN.com's source, who because of his closeness to Iverson was being kept abreast of all developments, indicated the 76ers weren't enamored of either Davis or the additional pieces they'd have to take back from Minnesota to make the salaries match.

Iverson supposedly nixed trade to the Bobcats.

For those worried about giving up Foye and the advancing ages of KG and Iverson's, the Wolves made their run to the Western Conference finals with 33 yr old Spreewell and 34 yr old Cassel. We have a window for this to be big but the bigger question is what would the Wolves look like after the deal and could they find the missing pieces to put them over the top.

PA and Dubers talked to JB today and he said the Bobcats weren't even that interested. They like their young talent and didn't want to give it up plus a lottery pick next year.

Bernie also was quoted as saying that was BS info.

the wolves cant afford the kind of money ai gets with the league high salary of kg too. they cant get rid of enough money underneath kg to have enough room for ai's contract.

Sure they could - they are carrying plenty of crappy contracts right now that could equal out AI's #. The question is whether Philly really benefits from what the Wolves have to offer - it doesn't sound like they are all that interested. The Wolves are said to be looking at a package of Davis, Foye, Jaric and maybe Griffin.

Garbage

Postby Bushwood Gopher » Sun 12/17/06 1:48 am

This league is now past the point of no return. Thuggery is far too commonplace. I stopped watching basketball when Bird, Magic and their contemporaries retired. Can you imagine what classy guys like Michael Cooper, AC Green and David Robinson must think when they see the current crop of overpaid juvenile delinquents take to the courts?

Watch old tapes of just about any game from the 80's and you have to look hard to find a tatoo on someone. Watch a game from today and you have to look hard to find someone without one. It's a different era indeed.

When a pitcher nails a batter, stairs at him, the benches clear, and a melee ensues, no one complains about thugs. Why is that?

I think it's actually a culture predominating in basketball that people despise and not so much the game or the brawl that occurred today? Hip-hop music and the gangster mentality accompany the game because kids show up at a playground with sneakers and a ball. Most don't have $500 of equipment. It's an affordable game that grows into a passion and is seen as a way out. However, we know the odds and unfortunately, it's fools gold for far too many self-proclaimed premadonnas. Perhaps, the real thugs are the dream brokers at Nike!

Locally, the Howard Pulley program is a great organization that works to communicate the importance of accountability / responsibility while pushing to make opportunities available to many Minnesota kids in hoops (suburban, urban, and rurally).

All pro sports have their thugs but it's the image these players bring. Not all NBA players, but a good handful have this gangster image. The bagy jeans, ovresized shirts, flat billed hat tilted to the side, the jewerly and the list can go on. I do like watching high school and college basketball, but I hate the NBA more and more everyday.
BTW, why on earth would a coach have the NBA's leading scorer Carmelo Anthony on the floor. Your team is up by 19 points with less then 2 minutes left in the game.

Have you ever even watched basketball?? How about when McHale tackled Kurt Rambis and a brawl ensued in the NBA Finals? Do you remember when your precious Larry Bird and Julius Erving traded numerous punches? Was that classy? There is very little thuggery in the games because the refs call every freaking thing. Setting a pick in the Wolves game last night was a foul. This fight happened because Denver was running up the score with their starters still in when they were up by 19 with less than 2 minutes left. You don't do that, just like in baseball you don't steal a base when you're up 9-1 in the 8th inning. You're just asking for trouble. It's got nothing to do with "thuggery",which is just a racist code for people that don't like watching black players play basketball.
