Huh, notice anything in common about the names of the teams involved? Coincidence? I think not!

Is it just me, or is this out of extremely deep left field? Nothing wrong with the post, but USHL/NAHL Hockey thread, about an AHL fight years ago?

The relevance of the post is that the Gophers assistant coach Grant Potulny & our beloved squad was playing in the Frozen Four. I was just posting it as some may find it interesting that Grant got in a scuffle with his brother. In addition, for Grant to square off with Ben Eager (a true heavyweight) shows how much heart Grant has. I think the team would have benefitted from seeing this so they would have fought a little harder vs. BC.

Continuing the randomness of this thread, Indiana and almost Northeastern goalie Jon Gillies just scored an ENG.

Mine worked just fine the first time.

Just to clarify for those not paying attention, this is the entry draft. The futures draft was held weeks ago.

Connor Hurley from Edina the first Minnesotan to go at third overall to Des Moines. Hill-Murray's Charlie Sampair went 14th overall to Indiana.

Other Minnesotan's so far.
16. Judd Peterson; Duluth-Marshall; Cedar Rapids
25. Eric Schurhamer; Saint Thomas; Waterloo
28. Michael Bitzer; Moorhead; Lincoln (you remember him in the state tournament--right? Eagan does.)
38. Tucker Poolman; East Grand Forks; Omaha
42. Mathew Pohlkamp; Brainerd; Fargo
48. Blake Winiecki; Lakeville-North; Waterloo
55. Jack Ramsey; Minnetonka; Waterloo
61. C.J. Franklin; Forest Lake; Sioux Falls
65. Jared Kohlquist; Hermantown; Sioux City
66. Neal Pionk; Hermantown; Sioux City

I almost put Ben Storm in at 62nd before I realized Calumet was his team and not hometown.

Anybody want to keep this going? 6th round to begin soon.

I'll never understand how a guy like Sam Kurker (ranked 36 by CSS, committed to BU) goes so late in the draft. Where else would he play next year? If he's leaning toward Canada, why wouldn't a team that started passing take a flyer on him as their last pick? Is there a gentlemen's agreement between teams on where he's willing to play?

No surprise: Lincoln takes Vinni's cousin Louis. The Stars also drafted Tyler in the Futures Draft.

Although, how do you think Nate feels... getting drafted 50 spots later than Jabs?

50 spots, but technically like 48 of them were passes by that point in the draft.

Still.... you got drafted by a USHL team..... AFTER the paralyzed kid in the wheelchair.

Don't get me wrong, I love that Jabs got picked there, really cool thing for the team to do with a late pick in that kind of draft.

If he had been taken higher in the draft I might think something was up, but that late in the draft probably just taking a flyer on a kid that might not get the playing time here and be looking somewhere else at some point.

With late picks teams often pick kids that have about a 2% chance of ever playing for them.
