Take away the "maybe benefit from fumbles/interceptions" part and you've got Glen Mason football. With the new clock rules, his offense would be even more effective and could probably mask his complete inability to comprehend the basic fundamental concepts of defense and special teams.

That's Tim Brewster coaching philosophy 3.0, right? Or was it 4.0? I lose track.

That was the Tim Brewster Trying To Preserve His Job By Making The Games Closer philosophy. So I'd have to say 4.0

Norwood Teague was on 'CCO with Sid and Dave on Sunday and he mentioned that there are plans to move the season openers to Thursday night of Labor Day weekend for at least the next 10 years. Presumably, those will be home games. It'll be interesting to see what they do about parking and shuttling from the fairgrounds, since those lots will be unavailable.

It doesn't matter which day of the week the game is played, the fairgrounds lots will be full.

There are no lots in Madison and they figure it out. Every house lawn and business lot within a mile or more is full of parked cars.

As I said in the State Fair Thread rumors were going around this year the U was looking to end the Fair bus contract...this would seem to back up that rumor. (since the U would be losing the Fairgrounds so they would take away their lots and shuttles)

Otherwise they have to be road games because the Fair just gets in the way too much.

2 days to Vegas!

I am not going, but I have to think the "tailgating" should happen at the Hardrock. I can't imagine spending one mintue in Vegas sitting in a parking lot by a cooler. That would be like going to Maui to get married, but having the ceremony in a bathroom. And you KNOW how much I love tailgating!

Did I hear correctly on the radio that the game will be simulcast on NBC?

For those of us who don't have CBS College Sports Network, or whatever network the game will be on.

I'm pickin' up what you're layin' down...Wynn has the same set-up, probably better IMO...It was pretty crazy there on Saturday when I went to the Cabana Bar. They will take it up a notch this weekend for sure...Alas, as of yesterday, I have re-located to far calmer digs in the center of the Strip and will miss out on those shenanigans.

FYI - One of the bartenders at Wynn thinks it will be a really nice evening for the game. Once the sun goes down the temps are cooler near the stadium given it is 5-6 miles from the Strip. Nothing at all wrong with mid-to-high 80s and no humidity.

Gophers currently favored by 8 or 8 1/2 depending on the Race & Sports Book you go to...

Dang, just checked it, and we officially do not get this CBS channel.

IIRC, DirecTV lets you bump up your package, and you can bump it back down within a week or so without having to pay for the whole month. Might have to give that a try.

Well shoot. Sports Pack is only like 10-12 bucks a month, but CBS Sports Net is so obscure that it's not included in those 35 channels. The bar might not even get this channel.

I gotta imagine the gophers are the favorite though. No way it's one to one (moneyline). Spread might be though.

I don't have a ton of rules that I live by. But one of them is never bet on the Gopher football team to win (or cover.) And that rule has served me well.

It's if they cover (+8.5)

Here's the deal: I had $30 left in this website that they wouldn't let me take it out (you needed $100 min to cash out), and they gave me $50 "free play" money, so I bet like $30 of my money and $50 of their money to win about $70. Then if I win they take like a $30 fee to pay out my money. I'm just ready to be done with the stupid website.

I hope the guys kill UNLV and the spread for you. I'd like the game to be in hand relatively quickly so I don't have to spend so much money at the bar.

lol I know. I really just hope the gophers win, even if they don't cover the spread. I don't really mind, I'd just like to see us back to relevant!

I thought I saw the Gophers as either 8 or 8.5 point favorites.

Gophers also -320.

Remember the point of the Vegas line is to get equal betting on both sides. Bookmakers in Vegas have admitted in the past to raising the line on UNLV games when they knew a lot of visiting fans were going to come and put money on their team. I'm not saying they were expecting a huge influx of Gopher fans, but maybe 1 or 2 points can be attributed to this.

The biggest example of this in the last few years is when Wisconsin opened up at UNLV. Bookmakers said they moved the line up to 7 points higher because of the Wisconsin fans. The only reason I remember this is because Wisconsin didn't nearly cover the spread and the bookmakers were so proud of themselves for getting all their money.

A few vendors that I work with both at Target Field and the Dome are out in Vegas for the game and the weekend. They are placing some bets for me. I parlayed the following;

Bet #1:
Gophers (to cover) vs. UNLV
Michigan (to beat the spread) vs Alabama

Bet #2:
Northwestern (to cover) vs. Syracuse
Penn State (to cover) vs. Ohio
Clemson (to cover) vs. Auburn
No. Illinios (to beat the spread) vs. Iowa
Michigan State (to cover) Bosie St.

Gonna have to do some online sports betting. I generally don't do much of that during baseball because it's so unpredictable so it's been a while.

A 5-team parlay; ballsy. Usually 3-team parlays are tough, but a 5-teamer is nuts.

I feel more confident with the 5 team then the 2 team. I have $20 on each parlay. So it's not the end of the world if I happen to lose. But, I think the 5 team is at around 16-1.

Called DirecTV and bumped up our package so we'll get thus CBS sports network and be able to watch the game. It's an extra $5 a month for this package, but they said I cancel it at any time and it's pro-rated, so I apparently only pay for how long we have it.

So if I call and move back to the package we had originally I wonder how much I'll get charged, $0.16?

I'll interested to see how it works on the bill, but I figured I'd do it since the most it will cost us is $5.

Now that the logistics are figured out... GO GOPHERS!!! I'm excited for this game/season!

Like the all white for being in the heat. UNLV has the option to pick what uni. If I was UNLV, I would wear whites and make Minnesota wear the darks.

1) Interception
2) 3 and out with a delay penalty

For those without CBS Sports. In other news, haven't missed anything yet.

0-3 UNLV, UNLV's ball.

Horrid throw by UNLV.
Gophers ball on around their own 12. Pass no where near anyone in red.

Edit: False start, make that around the 7.

Whoever decided to have the word "FINAL" colored yellow on the bottom of the screen needs to be fired. Every time that comes up I think a flag has been thrown.
