I didn't mind Dances With Wolves, but it was not even close to Goodfellas in most every important category, not least Best Picture.

Yeah I really liked how it was more or less the same as the movie but in greater detail and it tied up some loose ends that the movie skimmed over. I need to read Casino by Pillegi too.

That wasn't the first time Scorcese got screwed over either. Taxi Driver and Raging Bull lost out to Rocky (LOL) and Ordinary People respectively.

When you look at Scorsese's accomplished resume, it certainly comes off that way. IMO, I'd place GoodFellas, Casino, Raging Bull, and even Shutter Island ahead of tDeparted.

I've often felt that The Oscars is not a good way of judging if a movie is any good or not, at least nowadays. It's become more of a popularity contest. Movie studios spend LOTS of money marketing their particular movie/actor/actress for an Oscar.

No, no...not Swardson. The idiot in the commercial who says "I know you're gonna see this movie, 'cuz I just hypnotized ya!" or whatever the crap he's blathering on about.

As far as "one of us" comedians go, give me Mitch Hedberg any day of the year.

Saw Contagion over the weekend. The reviews online are mixed. Curious what people thought. That the story was interesting, but developed very slowly. Was hoping to get a big twist as there was no real climax and just kind of moved through the story. Cool concept and idea though.

Natural Born Killers.

:censored: awesome movie. I liken it to "The Wall" for my generation: totally :censored: ed up movie, with a message, done smartly.

Although, I still wonder what Tarantino would have done differently with the script. I mean, Stone and Tarantino are both nuts, it's just a different kind of crazy between them.

This is most definitely true. IMDB isn't perfect but it's about as close to an objective rating as you're gonna get. Obviously it has its share of flaws too.

The road warrior is definitely better than 7.8/10 :D

Tarantino's script of NBK was drastically altered when Stone made it into a movie. Tarantino has basically dis-owned the movie because of the massive changes, hence my wondering what his version would have been.

To put it as simply as I can, without ruining any plot points, surprises, etc. It's Oliver Stone unleashed on LSD, with a satire on today's entertainment media (think: TMZ, Entertainment Tonight, etc). Except this was done in the early 90's before the internet really became what it is.

And Tommy Lee Jones plays a part that is (for me) amazing, and totally not his usual role. Finally: there's a certain kinda cameo that reallllllllllllly breaks type. You'll know it when you see it.

I have seen the trailer and it does look awful. Sandler was also responsible for the Bucky Larson porno star that came out a few weeks ago. I know this because in an interview, Nick Swardson basically threw him under the bus saying all these movies come from the great mind of Adam Sandler. I'm sure Sandler doesn't care because if you put his name in front of a movie, there's always some group of loyal fans that will go see it no matter what.

I still laugh my ass off when I watch #2. Which isn't to say I don't roll on the ground laughing from the first. I just thought the second was a bit better. #3 was ranked second because while it kept most of the humor low brow, it was still a much more mature movie.

The American Trilogy for me:

1: awesome. hilarious.
2. quality, not as funny as the first, but worthy.
3. putrid. Only funny scene was the Stifler eating poop, and obviously that was the low-brow of low-brow. I actually wish I had that time spent back.

As for this "finale," since from what I see the whole cast is back, I will give it a fair shot.

I agree with everything you've written here. Now, has anyone actually subjected themselves to the four (I had to look up the number) direct-to-DVD movies branded with "American Pie?"

Watched Das Boot for the first time in about 20 years. It was pleasantly as exceptional as it was then and very much stood the test of time. It's not just a war movie, but one that explores heroism, patriotism, fear and explored the confined spaces of life in an underwater tin can. Absolutely brilliant.

Oh please tell me you watched the longest version available. Why? It's brilliant. 20 minutes of nothing? Well, that's part of war. That movie blew me away.

20 minutes of nothing? Reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Such an awful movie.

Here's what we've learned tonight: dx thinks that American Wedding is a better movie than 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Went to the movies with the girl across the street when I was 14 at the Cina Theatre in WSP. She got to choose between "American Graffiti" or a re-release of "2001: A Space Odyssey"; she chose "2001". Let's just say that the luckiest I got that evening was when the movie ended. Ugh. :puke:

Sometimes I think people gush over movies they're supposed to like. Could not agree more that Clockwork and 2001 are hideously boring. Another one on that list is Hollywood's favorite, Citizen Kane.

Went and saw 50/50 tonight.
Was thoroughly surprised at the quality of the movie. I wasn't sure what to expect. I love JG-L in the stuff I've seen him in, but wasn't sure what to expect out of Seth Rogen in a movie like this.
I think they worked really well together in the movie.
I'd definitely recommend it if you were on the fence like I was.

I agree, was definitely a good mix of comedy and seriousness. I really liked it. For some reason, Anna Kendrick's character bugged me at first with her awkwardness, but it grew on it. I really liked her in Up in the Air.

Daybreakers

Nice little sci-fi/horror movie. About the world being 95% REAL vampires, and blood supply is just about out. Usually not a fan of the gore-type movies, and this is just about the right limit for that. Good premise, and I kinda liked it. It was a good watch.

This could go under the stupid questions thread I suppose, but....

I was watching the original Footloose last night...and I always wondered...the place where they hold the dance in, is in a warehouse in a different town (Basin? The fire dept can't cross the tracks, so neither can the "long arm of the law"). So why did they need to get the law abolished, and why did they need the reverend to approve?

Another classic I watched last night...Mr Mom. I always find it funny at the end...the day she comes back from Cali, one day after shooting a commercial for Schooner Tuna...you see it being aired on TV. That's a helluva fast turnaround!!! ;)
