The grocery store I work at shares a parking lot with a Wells Fargo, who have their flag at half-mast. Is it just up to the discretion of each individual "flag owner" to decide how long they will have it like that? Or is there a standard operating procedure that specifies a certain length of time?

But how does the Governor have the ability to order the US Flag to be flown at half staff? I thought only the Federal Government could make this determination.
I really ought to remember the rules around this but maybe something with a better memory and knowledge of the situation can help.

Hopefully you have it plugged in, start there. Then try doing a manual regeneration by turning the knob on the front of the unit. I found this user manual online which tells you what you need to do:Manual. If that doesn't work then the head on the softener probably has some internal issues.

Do they just use a computer to visually enhance a digital copy of the film? I don't really get how something filmed on a 1970's camera could be enhanced to the point of blu-ray quality.

My guess is because it's shot with film.
If it's anything like regular photography, film is MUCH higher quality than digital--by a long shot. Nothing even comes CLOSE to an 8x10 view camera (film) in terms of resolution and optical quality. These are then scanned and processed, and can produce extremely high quality digital images. I believe this is how movies work as well... Though I could be wrong.
To put it in perspective, the equivalents I've always been told was a normal 35mm negative can be drum-scanned to about 25MP, and medium format (6x7 cm) to something like 40MP. I don't know 8x10 equivalents, but I'm guessing it's triple digits or more...
EDIT: For example, my 1970 Pentax 35mm can pump out images at much higher quality than typical consumer digital SLRs these days.

I am not liking this post at all. I was leaning toward getting a Nest, and am hoping they can work out these shortfalls in version 1.2. I really liked some of the features, and the ability to control your HVAC system from an iPhone. It would have been really nice when we are out of town to either warm up the house or cool it for arrival. Additionally, I liked the idea of being able to monitor the current temp while away. It would be nice to know if your furnace went out while traveling without having to have someone stop in. Here is hoping they work out the kinks, because there is a lot to like, IMO.

I would avoid them like the plague. Designed by someone from Apple IIRC. Totally awesome if you're a fan of the front end only. If you want a thermostat that actually works and has features, go with the cheap and reliable ones. I've heard horror stories about the Nest somehow dying (updates and possibly batteries, although I'll admit I'm not entirely sure on the last one) and nearly freezing pipes. I read through all of the comments on their website and it scared me enough to probably never buy one.
I'd rather setup my own PLC (with redundant backups) at home that can control my house.

I've never understood this whole "control your life from your iphone" crap that is going around. Are people truely that fraking lazy to just buy a programable thermostat and set it for the 98% of your life that is pretty static in schedule? Is it REALLY that hard to walk up to it and turn it off for a day or adjust the settings if you are home early? Much less turning on lights, programing your DVR etc?

When I got to the split, instead of going into the opposite direction as the car in front of me, I waited to see what car would finish ordering first so I could be the next person to order. While I wait, the morbidly obese woman in the car behind me starts honking her horn and making hand gestures out the window, trying to get me to pick one side or the other.
So which is correct? Is it OK to do what I did and wait to see which car finishes ordering first, or do you just blindly alternate sides (left/right/left/right) and hope you don’t get stuck behind some minivan with 6 kids? Am I in the wrong here? Incidentally, the car that was in front of me actually finished ordering before the one on the other side that was there before it, so I felt vindicated.
