Any type of retail stores (Wal-Mart, Target, Home of Economy....), except gas stations.

Edit: Sunday's only

It is on Sunday only and the exceptions are grocery stores and gas stations, however walmart in Fargo is super walmart or whatever with a full grocery store and they are not allowed to be open on Sundays before noon.

If I put a gift card on my iTunes account on my computer, can I use that on my iPhone to buy apps and songs on the phone?

Yes. The amount of the gift card will show up on the App Store or iTunes on the iPhone. Usually on the bottom of the home screen of either app.

Can someone explain what the difference between Industrial and Systems Engineering is? I have looked online but can't seem to figure it out. In most cases, it is in the same department at colleges, but looking for a little more detail.

Industrial engineers are more manufacturing focused. Think mechanical enginneering lite. System engineers are usually top level people focusing on the big picture in product design. The need mechanical, electrical, software, etc expertise. The usually lead a team consisting of the other disciplines. At least that's how I've seen it in the real world.

This is pretty much what I was going to say--SE is a bit more concerned with product development & management of that process; IE is tilted a bit more towards the logistics & planning of the execution of a product.

So it seems like the SE is more like a MBA but on the technical side and the IE is more aligned to someone who would do planning, quality or manufacturing engineering.

More or less, although I take offense to SE ~= MBA :) (I'm working on MS SE right now.) It's still engineering, just less basic sciences! (Not as focused on the actual management (motivation/interaction/social) of people, or the economics of running a business.)

I usually describe SE as "The Science of Engineering"--more or less meta-engineering; the theory of developing and executing a successful product & program, and the study of improving those theories. I'm not as familiar with IE, but the impression that I get is it's more focused on the science of Manufacturing & Logistics.

I'm using Windows 7 on my laptop at work. If I have Excel open, when I open a new spreadsheet from an email shouldn't that new one pop up right away? As it is, I have to go down to the Excel icon in the tray and find that new spreadsheet and click on it to see it.

Yeah, that happens to me too. Another annoyance is if I have Word or Excel files minimized on my tray as soon as I download say a Word file all of the Word files I have minimized pop up and I have to close them manually.

My dumb question is when people come to this site and specifically to the Forum, do they go to Community - Forum or do they start somewhere else, such as unread topics etc? I get stuck doing things the way I always do them but no idea if it's the best or most efficient way.

So, from the Portal page you browse recent topics? After you comment in a thread, do you go back to the portal? (in other words, do you always toggle back to the portal page?)

Concussions.....baseline tests....missed games and seasons....so what's the deal with concussions in boxing? If boxing were treated like any other sport....a career would last 2-3 fights if you weren't very good.....heck with sparring maybe not even that long. So, if your sports intention is to create concussions.....it's ok and you can continue.

They keep putting in these nice, ritzy apartment buildings. You'd think they'd put a couple economical apartments in, instead of more places like Flo Co. and whatever the one is on University and 15th!

The one being built on Washington looks like it will be really nice (read: expensive)

Half rack: 6
Full rack: 12

BBQ places in meccas like Kansas City will go so far as to ask if you want short or long end on a half rack. Short ends are meatier and more tender, in my opinion.

Some frozen foods offer the option to microwave or use a conventional oven. Why on some of those (after conventional oven heating directions) does is say "do not prepare in toaster oven". I just don't understand, if you can heat it in a conventional oven, why you couldn't use a toaster oven (especially something small).

I'm thinking 'Dillo will be able to answer this one for me.

It has to do with the (usually) plastic packaging used in frozen meals and the placement of the heating element. In a conventional oven, the food is placed on a center rack and the heating element is usually a foot or so away. In a toaster oven, the element is inches away from the food, so there's more intense heat closer to the product. This can lead to melted plastic, which would obviously ruin the meal. A comparable situation would be using an oven's top rack under a broiler to heat a frozen meal.

Also, the closeness and intensity of the element could cause uneven heating (the outside is burned before the inside is even defrosted), which isn't a problem in a more gentle, even, heated-air situation like a conventional oven, or a microwave, which heats through molecular friction in water (and cycles that on and off in a defrost cycle, which gives the ice a chance to melt.)

The Fridge probably creates a low pressure system which leads to thunderstorms occurring underneath it.

Anyone have an iPhone app they use to manage their Netflix? As far as I can tell the Netflix app is just for instant streaming to your phone.

There is condensate forming on the evaporator coil. There is normally a tube running from that cold coil to a pan near the condenser coil (the hot coil) and the water evaporates from that pan. You've got a blocked tube, find it and clean it out.

My sister and mother did the Landmark thing and it is very much like a cult. It is all about trying to get you to get others join to better themselves...for a fee. I don't have a problem if people want to sign up for a self-help program but they were constantly trying to get others to "just come to a seminar with me."

I believe they do get a stipend for meals and such. The thing that makes them profesional leagues in the eyes of the NCAA is that some of the drafted players have signed with their NHL teams.

When are people's 4th of July vacations? It is smack in the middle of the week this year...so wondering which wknd will be the main wknd to celebrate. I'm GUESSING the wknd after, cuz that's at least July. But then again...I think most of the time they do it the wknd before. Really know clue. Is this a statement, or are you unsure? I actually don't know much about property ownership, so I'm actually asking seriously. :D

Consider it a statement. :)

Higher value = higher property taxes. There are a lot of people on the edge economically in Frogtown and other University Ave neighborhoods. If development goes as projected I know a lot of people are worried they may be priced out of the University Ave. corridor neighborhoods. Personally, I am just anxious for construction to end..

Increasing property values are great if you're selling; not so great if you're not. In general, increased property values are like increasing values of stocks or anything else. If you make an investment, you want the value to increase. However, with increasing property values come increased property taxes, which become a "drag" on your investment. After the 2008 real estate gutting, property values fell off a cliff, giving the tax assessor a vexing little revenue problem. Banks, who just months before were like cowboys handing out loans like lollipops, suddenly have become so conservative they are setting qualifying loan values at or near the tax assessed value of the property, which historically runs at a fair percent margin lower than the actual appraised value. This means, for example, that if you find a house for $300,000 but the taxed assessed value is $275,000, the bank won't be inclined to cover the difference.

As do we (the Wild). But they were the team that moved from here. I'd still like to see us get at least the rights to use it once in a while as an alternate. Those Cletuses would have no idea.

I think the new Minnesota hockey expansion owners were even offered the name back when they started the team, but refused it.

I believe it is the NHL.

I want to say Dallas does, since they sell the merchandise in their team store.

It is the NHL.

I think the new Minnesota hockey expansion owners were even offered the name back when they started the team, but refused it.

Is this true? They really passed on the name of the old team for... "the Wild"? And a classic color scheme and logo for that awful color scheme and joke of a critter with trees in its face? I can't believe somebody would do that.

This is false.

I met with Lou Nanne in 2010 for a project, and that very discussion came up. The name moved to Dallas - MN couldn't use it if they had wanted.

Correct. IIRC the new MN franchise asked about using the name and were shot down.
Also known as Brenthoven on USCHO.

What it's worth: no idea.

What you should tell him it's worth: Taco Bell lunch, your treat.

Does anyone have the Comcast DVR...and does it beep from time-to-time? Mine beeps, and I can't figure out why. It'll beep a lot in a short period of time (like one beep every minute or so). Then I won't hear it for days, then it might beep just a couple times. It's weird.

Is it the receiver itself making the noise or does it come through the TV speakers? I have no idea what it could be, I'm just intrigued.
