It just cost me $140 to fill up the truck. I could have bought 2.8 government subsidized green energy lightbulbs instead.

Teaching people to play the game, then seeing them get rewarded for playing the game before you.

In less theoretical terms--tutoring students in the subject matter and instructing them on how to get accepted (jobs, schools, etc.), then seeing them get accepted before you...

People using past results to predict the future.

Like.... UMD lost in the Final Five last year and still won the tile., maybe we can do that. Or... Denver beat us bad in the 2002 FF and we still won a title. Or... In 2007 MN beat UND in the FF then beat them in the regional so maybe the opposite will happen this year.

Past results mean DICK people!

Maybe not. "Flu-like symptoms" are usually body ache, congestion, cough, fever, and so on. That would be influenza.

Now, if he's doing the poopy/pukey doubleheader...norovirus.

Body aches, congestion, cough, fever, etc. are also very, very common symptoms for the common cold, and vomiting/diarrhea can be indicative of influenza.

People who ask you to analyze some data for them, but they can't tell you what experiments they want the data for or when it was recorded. Maybe I'll burn you a CD with all 900 excel files we've got on the lab computer and you can just look for the one you need on your own time. Or, since you are graduating soon, you could learn to analyze and keep track of your own stuff. Like they do in the pros.

Based on what has been reported, the shooting in Florida definitely has some questionable aspects. That said, would you rather:

a. Have the authorities bow to pressure and arrest the shooter right away before fully investigating and having the most solid case possible or

b. Have the authorities take their time to make sure they have all their ducks in a row and have the strongest case possible.

People don't seem to realize that if you arrest someone, you have to charge them within a reasonable amount of time (48 hours in MN IIRC). Any smart attorney would then exercise their client's right to a speedy trial thus putting the authorities under more pressure to get their facts straight.

p.s. This is not meant as support for the shooter. I just wish all the protesters realized that it takes time to build a solid case and it would jeopardize the case if they rushed it.

Of course the logical thing is Option B, BUT part of the protest is the police handling of the case, not just the fact they haven't arrested him yet. Dismissing eye witness accounts of the shooting, doing a drug/alcohol test on the dead black kid (because god knows he must have been on drugs) but NOT on the shooter, verbally twisting the families statements to the press, now apparently not being able to find the shooter. Yes, they need to build the case before arrest, but they dismissed this case before they even tried. The police saw what they wanted to see, a black kid in a gated community of white people, and they didn't go one inch out of their way to evaluate the cirumstances . That's the focus of the anger.

I still remember when those elitist, racist, Duke lacrosse players raped that poor black woman at their party. We should have convicted them on the spot, because everybody knew what happened, and they were obviously guilty. I bet they are happy sitting in jail now, the bastards...

I'll wait and see what happens with the case, because I don't claim to know exactly what happened based solely on the color of people's skin.

It was my fault for opening a can of worms. I just don't like high profile crime cases like this as they draw a ton of media attention and IMHO people tend to base their decisions on what they read in the media without hearing all the facts in a case.

I just like to wait until all the facts are collected before passing judgement. I do agree (and had no beef) with Kelly Red that if in fact evidence was overlooked, that people should be upset.

Now...back to not-so-serious pet peeves :D

The problem is the cops are completely bungling the investigation so it is not like the Duke LaCrosse case. In that case there was zero evidence the cops and the DA just decided they were guilty and went full bore hoping proof would show up. In this case they have dismissed anything that doesnt back the view that it was self defense even though nothing backs up the claim. (if you believe reports that is)

I applaud the police for not kowtowing to public opinion here. I assume they know much more about the situation than me (that says a lot because I don't trust any government entity).

Its ironic that the first thing I said to my wife when this hit the news was that I hope it wasn't another Duke lynching.

My best guess is that if Zimmerman did anything wrong (and my current belief is that he did), they will get him.

It's fascinating that the race card is being played here, but they are failing to point out that Zimmerman is hispanic. Every single article states "Black teenager. Black teenager. Black teenager." Try finding one article that says "Hispanic shooter. Hispanic shooter. Hispanic shooter."

Its also disgraceful that President Obama has put his 2 cents in - with an emphasis on racism. It reminds me exactly of the "police acted stupidly" comment when the police were accused of discrimination when one of Obama's friends was arrested justly.
