Gotta love psycho Wallstreet....

From the LA Times YESTERDAY:
AP After a flat 2011, stocks rose sharply Tuesday in the first trading of 2012 after investors returned from the holiday and found encouraging economic reports from the United States and around the world.

From Fox Business today:
After Tuesday's data-fueled rally, concerns over Europe's debt crisis and financial markets came back into focus, sending stocks lower.

I mean, seriously, the giddy folks of yesterday woke up this morning and got depressed over a year+ old european debt crisis?

No. I never said that. Nobody said that. What I intended to get across above was that (as far as my understanding, anyways) Santorum holds views on GLBT issues that are far outside of the "social conservative" norm - to the point that he specifically drew the ire of that community that felt he was outright discriminatory towards them.

Yep. Certainly not the federal gov't.

THIS. I've thought this plan would work for the longest time:

Get rid of every reference to "marriage" in any government entity. If people want to be joined together in a way that is recognized by the State and conferrs upon them benefits equal to current "marriage" benefits, have the government give everyone a "Civil Union" - whether they be gay or straight couples that want to marry under the law. Let individual churches decide whether they want to marry gay couples. That way, the churches have final say over whether or not they will marry gay couples, but gay couples can still take advantage of the benefits of a civil union under the law if a church will not marry them.

Makes sense to me.

I don't hate the MOA but I don't love going there either. The worst is when friends/relatives come in town and want to go to the MOA. They want to take in all the sights so I give them directions and tell them I will meet them for lunch/dinner later.

IMO it seems like all the local malls seem to be going down hill a bit.

I'm ready to be done with the primary/caucus stuff. Ugh. Seriously, doesn't GB or Canada have a system where they call an election and then it happens in like 3 months? Let's change to that, I'm so sick of all this campaigning. Especially in this election... it's pretty clear that Romney (and maybe Gingrich, I guess) is the only nationally viable candidate.

I've been saying it for weeks now. Romney will win the nomination. Period. Only one thing has been constant throughout the waning and waxing of each campaign: Romney has always been in second, thus, he's always been in first.

It's amazing how little attention Ron Paul is getting from the mass media folks. It's as if they're actively trying to ignore him.

I'd be interested in a GPL straw poll, just for kicks and grins. It would be a much better baromoter of the GOP's current political state vs. Iowa...

There have been a few networks that have "unintentionally" censored him.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

I kind of liked Bloomingdales. But I can understand why it would close since Macy's owns Bloomingdales and the MOA has Macy's as well. I like going to the MOA due to the variety of stores in one place. Though I admit I don't go as often as I used to.

As far as politics, Bachman is an embarrassment to our state. Happy she is out.

All that being said, I don't see a candidate in the REBUMBLICAN side that is really a major threat to Obama. So they can pretty much elect who they want in the end and I don't think it is going to matter.

I've always considered myself an independent. I'd vote for either side depending on qualifications, etc. and I've voted both REBUMBLICAN and DUMBACRAT at times in my life. It won't be that way in the next election. I'll be voting for one side across the board because I detest the behavior of the other side in recent times.

This makes sense to me, and I have been wanting this for a while. Not that I have any stake in the matter, I just find the whole thing hypocritical and controlling. One could also look at "common law" marriage the same way. I've never understood why some people think that requiring a license for the most basic of social functions is a good thing. :confused2:

I feel bad for the mother in this story. First she has to deal with the death of husband, than this scum forces her to make the decision to take a life. I hope she has no remorse about it, because none is warranted. Good on the 911 dispatcher for "green lighting" her. Too often they try to encourge someone to wait for the police. This was clearly a shoot first, clean up later situation. Her vigilance may have saved someone else the trauma of being a victim.

Mall of America to replace Bloomingdale's with four new tenants

Once it moves out, the mall plans to build out a basement retail space under the site and a new retailer will occupy that and the first floor of what is now Bloomingdale's.

The remaining space will be occupied by three other new tenants. Mall officials did not reveal the names of the new retailers because the leases haven't been signed, but they were described as "fashion forward," and three are unique to the Twin Cities area.

The plans also involve the expansion of the court area along the mall's south and east avenues.

I know the common train of thought, backed by some policemen that I know, if you shoot, keep pulling that trigger well past after you run out of bullets. Why? You panicked, and those extra marks from trying to shoot an empty gun would be noticed by forensics, and therefore your defense (if needed) would be that you panicked and kept "shooting.

Sorry, Dillo, but you failed--this is still political.

The recess appointment thing has been going on for years. "W" Bush made >150 such appointments, many controversial (John Bolton). Many made during the same break period that Obama is using. This time, the Senate thought they could pretend to not be in recess by keeping the water running in the sink.

The problem is not your sworn enemy--Obama. The problem is politics. No one listens anymore. There is no compromise. Nothing can get done. If you're going to be mad, be like Jupiter. Be mad at everyone.

(Maybe you are--maybe that's your point here. But you wouldn't have had to delete a post that rails at both sides, so I doubt it. And I'm not going to write any more about this. Everyone needs to calm down a lot.)

Bush made recess appointments, as have all Presidents, as is their power under Article I, Section 5. The problem here is that the Senate is not in recess. Yes, they are holding "pro forma" sessions in order to never officially be in recess, but here's where it gets a bit sticky: Pro forma sessions were first used by...wait for it...Harry Reid in order to prevent George Bush from making recess appointments, which Bush adhered to. So now the same tactic is used against Obama, and it's OK for him to just go ahead and ignore the fact that the Senate is still officially in session, effectively dictating to the Senate when they're in recess and when they're not. He doesn't have that power under the Constitution, ergo his actions here are unconstituonal.

Think of it this way: if this is allowed to stand, it sets a precedent that a future REBUMBLICAN president could decide that the Senate is "effectively in recess" any time he or she decides it is, and could just up and appoint a Supreme Court justice without Senate hearings. Do you want that to happen? I sure as hell don't.
